And then I connected the external hard disk to the esata.But neither the OS nor the Disk Utility saw the external harddisk. anyone here successfully done this before? Have I missed something?

Feb 24, 2010Just got the new Newertech 6G ESATA card from OWC and I'm having problems getting my ESATA cable fitting into it. It does not go in very far, and never latches on to the two tabs. Before I go out and buy a new cable or return the card, please take a look at the two pics and tell me what's wrong. I'm afraid to try to force the cable in harder since it doesn't seem normal that there should be so much resistance.
EDIT: Jammed it in real hard and it seems to have seated itself, but the drive is not showing on the desktop or in Disk Utility. Mac Pro recognizes the card just fine (slot 4). Will try another cable, but something feels wrong about the card. It shouldn't take this much force to plug the cable in.

Dec 7, 2014I have a WD My Passport 1TB external that was linked to my iMac 27".It's worked fine for a year or so - I copied some files to take on the train with me and unmounted the drive.When I pugged the drive into the USB on my Macbook it caused a kernel panic.
Ive since tried the the drive on another 3 macs and each time it restarts and causes a kernel panic.So the issue is obviously with the drive itself.There's no data on the drive that isn't backed up elsewhere but I'd like to be able to use the drive again.Is there any way of mounting and reformatting the drive or does it have to go in the bin now?

It would just show the little blue "light" flashing on and off, as if Finder were launching, crashing, launching, crashing.After some deduction, I found the problem to be my USB WD hard drive. It used to previously work fine. It has only one partition on it, which is HFS+ formatted. Disk utility verify/repair reports that the drive is fine.

May 12, 2010Today I connected my Mackie Onyx Satellite Firewire audio interface to my 2.4 Ghz 13" Macbook Pro for the first time. After it had been running for a while, I looked at iStat Pro, and it reported a CPU temperature of 67C, which is about 15 to 25 degrees hotter than this machine usually idles. Now I've looked around a little bit and found that it's a known issue and associated with the Agere Firewire chipsets. Is there any solution for this? Does it make a difference if you use a daisy chain setup with an external hard drive in between the computer and the audio interface, or a repeater cable, or anything of that nature?

I have a Mini Displayport to DVI adapter hooked up to a DVI -VGA adapter which leads to the display. I haven't got it to work yet. I have followed advice about closing the lid and using usb mouse and keyboard with no luck. The only thing that happens is that the screen on the laptop flashes blue for about a second after plugging in the Mini DisplayPort adapter.

Putting these to use along with:Three Ethernet Cables Now how do I get the whole HDD visible to the others computers (either/both) and be able to write to it? Also, I do not want to use CDs and have no CDs that came with the computers. I want to put Xubuntu on the eMac and Debian on the iMacs and erase the rest of the Hard Drives. The computers getting this are the iMac G3s and the eMac G4 in my Signature.

If I plug in 1 or more external hard drives into the hub & have them working together/transferring files, will there be a big slowdown?right now my hard drives are in just usb 2.0 enclosures. Would it be worth upgrading their enclosures to firew wire - esata? would I feel a performance difference?

Nov 25, 2010I purchased and installed the Commell MPX-3132 in place of my Airport Card. Installation was very easy and the RAID drivers work perfectly. I cloned my HD to my SSD using CCC and everything shows up fine via ESATA and USB. When I try to boot from it via ESATA it is not recognized, but it boots perfectly from USB. I Booted to it via USB and installed the RAID drivers onto the SSD then tried to boot via ESATA again with no luck. The SSD I bought is the Corsair Force 120 and the enclosure is a Hornettek usb/esata [URL:...] I haven't had a chance to test another enclosure.

Nov 19, 2010My buddy and I just finished swapping the airport card for a mini pci-e sata card in his 2008 Imac and all is well. Unfortunately, we could not get it to show or mount anywhere on mine (2010). We tried everything. We loaded the raid drivers and the none raid. We tried both cards (his and mine) in my machine and still nothing. His Imac mounted his ssd immediately after installing the drivers. Could it be that the new logic boards do not support this type of card? Is there a special driver that I need for the i7? I was hoping this would add 2 more sata ports.

Mar 28, 2009I hook up a Samsung LCD to my MBA via the Mini DVI cable and everything works great. However, when I unhook the cable (regardless of whether the Mac is on/off), the Mac doesn't pick up that it is now only on a single display, when opening apps (say Firefox), and opens them as if they were on the secondary monitor (so I can only see the very left hand edge). I can't imagine that I would need to minimize or drag the window to the MBA display prior to unplugging the cable, every single time...?
The only work around I have been able to find is drop the display resolution to 8x6 and grab the edge of the window and drag it over. I've tried "Detect Displays", restarting and other "tinkering" to no avail.
