View 18 Replies View RelatedFirst i want to apologize for my bad english. Soon i will buy an iMac - the 21,5' version. I nave an old 29 CRT Samsung TV with S - video input, scart input and RCA input. My idea was to connect the iMac with the TV through the S - video input by using the apple's video adapters Mini DisplayPort to DVI Adapter and Apple DVI to Video Adapter. But when i saw the pictures of these adapters i saw that my idea is impossible, because the connection between them is impossible because of the 4 additional pins in one of the adapters - Mini DisplayPort to DVI Adapter. My question is how can i connect my TV with the iMac through the s - video port on my TV?

I'm new here and was hoping for some feedback. I got a new 2.8 Imac and had it replaced after the Power Supply Position was idling at 82 degrees Celsius, and the top of the case felt very hot to the touch. The fans never "kicked in" even though it was that hot. Anyways, I got a replacement machine and the Power Supply Position now idles at about 68-70 degrees Celsius (much cooler), but the external portion of the machine still feels extremely hot. So my question is, how hot is too hot?? Is my machine normal and am I worried about nothing?? Should I be using SMC Fan Control?? Is the heat because of the 2.8 processor??

I have a newer iMac 24" bought in 11/2007. I have the mini-dvi to vga converter and when I connect it to a external tv capable of 1024x768, the iMac freezes and does nothing. I disconnect and the screen turns blue and the flickers back on and everything works. I have made the connection then booted up, and I have tried every resolution all the way down to 640x480, same thing it just locks up the screen, but again as soon as I unplug the mini-dvi to vga cable from the iMac it flicks to a blue screen and everything comes back. I have reviewed dmesg nothing, and revieiw /var/log/messages. Is there any troubleshooting I can do. I am old school unix/linux guy just converted my family to Apple and would like to use the display on my tv to watch my iTunes movies.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI bought an iMac and have been loving it but one thing I can't figure out how to fix is why it can't connect to the internet through my Ethernet cable. My PPC G4 connects just fine. I've googled and found nothing that helps. I tried deleting my system preferences but that didn't help. It just says there is no Ethernet cable connected even though it clearly is. I can't try with wifi because for some reason anything running OS X can't connected to my homes wifi. View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a Macbook Pro, and an iMac both on the same network - both with wireless connections to a Linksys wireless router. On each computer, I see the other one in Finder under the "Shared" category on the LHS of finder. However, when I try and connect to the computer, I get "Connection failed - the server Mac 24 Home may not exist or it is unavailable at this time Check the server ip etc. This means that I cannot print from my Macbook Pro to the printer that's attached to the iMac. If I reboot the iMac, my Macbook can print to its printer for a while - and then eventually after 20 minutes or so it cannot print anymore - and cannot connect to any shared folders on the iMac. The computers are both awake - not suspended and both with virtually no CPU usage. I don't have any type of firewall running on either. Any help would be greatly appreciated. UPDATE I've done a bit of troubleshooting - what I have found is that after about 20 minutes, my iMac loses all network connectivity. Even though the wireless signal is full strength (yes, connected wireless), I cannot browse anything - cannot even ping the ip address of the router it is wireless connected to! I find that if I then switch off the wireless connection, then connect again to the network - then all is well again for about 15 or 20 minutes or so, until I have to repeat the whole thing again.

After more than 5 years of having to constantly reboot my router because of lost connections to the Internet, I thought it would be time for a change. So I purchased a new Netgear router that works great with my mobile devices, including a PC notebook I have on my home network. (I should note that while all the other devices on my home network would lose their connection, the iMac somehow never did.)
However, when it came time to connect my iMac G4 I ran into some trouble. The iMac recognizes the new router and the WiFi signal strength is perfect, but I was unable to connect to the Internet. I opened the Network utility in Preferences to try to check the settings, and the following error message appeared:
<<Your network settings have been changed by another application.>>
What happens is, even though I click OK to clear the message, it keeps on reappearing on an endless loop; the only way out is to Force Quit the Network utility. Although this problem occurred with my older router, I was still able to connect to the Web; now I can't.
