I was just watching a video on Youtube and then all of a sudden my entire machine freezes, and it logged out me out completely to the main login screen? There was that tiny loading rotate logo in the screen also. What could have caused this?
View 3 RepliesSince nothing was on my calendar for tonight I decided to rent the movie Miss March and play it on my one week old uMBP 13'. It started off well and an hour into the movie, the screen just froze. Nothing working out, I restarted my macbook the hard way, and it did to me another time again. I had to watch the movie in a normal window not for itunes to crash.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI bought a new internal hard drive for my late 2009 MBP and have completely cloned my existing hard drive to the new one. When I use the new hard drive through an enclosure I am able to boot from this hard drive perfectly, but when I install it into my MBP it won't read properly or something. It loads to my home screen with my dock, but when I try to click something, it just freezes up and I have to restart to the same thing every time. Anyone have any ideas on how this can be fixed?

So today i was watching a film on my macbook which is connected to my HDTV and while watching the movie on the TV the screen on the macbook went black. I thought this was unusual so i went to move the cursor and press any keys and nothing happened. I turned the macbook off and a white screen came up for a sec and then the same black scree. I tried resetting the PRAM and nothing. I used a flashlight to see if i would see a faint desktop in the display to see if it was the inverted or back light, but there was nothing. The macbook responds perfectly, i connected it again to the TV and i can use it through that screen, but the display on the macbook is still black. I would highly appreciate it if you guys would be able to diagnose anything based on the symptoms i just described,
View 3 Replies View RelatedLately I've been using my external hard drive as the main drive of my imac I5 and every day it freezes when I open 3 or 4 apps or more or while doing several stuff at the same time. This, obviously, doesnt happen when using the internal hard drive of the imac, so I suppose is due to using firewire 800 or usb 2.0. Is it normal for every external hard drive to freeze when using it as the main drive or maybe is it that my external hard drive is bad?
I'm planning on buying a more quieter external hard drive to use as the main drive of my imac, but I wont do so if it also keeps freezing every day. Any suggestions? Is it normal even when using firewire 800? When using the external hard drive I umount the internal drive of the imac. Maybe this is the reason? Its a Lacie Big Disk 500GB. Would an external SSD make a difference or would it still freeze?
My itunes movie freezes everytime I play, even I have an imac with Intel core i7. Do you guys have same problem regarding itunes movie?

I have tried repairing permissions on my hard drive, repairing disk on the external disk. Still the same.
We have an iMac G5 running 10.4.11 which developed some nasty colour banding down the screen and have now plugged in an external display. How can you turn off the iMac display so it only outputs through the external monitor?

I have a long oversea flight coming up, do you guys know if the below setup will work? google result is inconclusive, some say it does others say it doesnt..
1) download itune movie rentals to my macbook pro at home
2) once on the plane, with the internet off, play the downloaded itune movie.
Will it play? does it require internet? some of the reports are saying they get error message saying cannot connect to itune store etc... but those are from early 2009. Anyone know for a fact if this works, or not work?
I can see the bar at the top of the screen running but the picture is black. Itunes is set as my default media player.

Now, I noticed when I go onto Youtube the computer freezes for about 5-10 seconds as soon as the page loads. This just started happening about an hour or 2 ago. This is also happening when I'm listening to iTunes radio, and an advertisement commercial comes on. If the advertisement plays a video, and iTunes is maximized on my screen my screen will freeze for about 5-10 seconds.
I am brand new to using a Mac so I don't know where anything is or how to use it 100% yet.

I notice that while streaming a movie, watching a dvd or playing a game my hard drive fan is so loud, its annoying. I have a 2008 White Macbook and i replaced the stock hard drive with a western digital 5400rpm 320gb and I only have 1gig of ram. I have no problem replacing the hard drive for a 7200 but i just need to know if its worth it. If i were to upgrade the ram to 2gigs would that solve the problem? Is it possible to install a 500gig drive into the white macbooks?

View 5 Replies View RelatedI am a Mac-newbie who recently switched from PC to Mac. I know a little about comps and have some experience with Windows and Linux. Now the Mac. I upgraded my iMac 20" (bought it used from a friend) from Mac OS X 10.4 to Mac OS X 10.5 and everything seemed to go according to plan until it came to the re-boot and the comp froze on the blue screen with the movable mouse pointer showing. I tried the apple key with s on boot and did fsck -fy and fsck -f a couple of times. It only shows "The volume MacC appears to be okay". Everytime I typed "exit" to go to the log-in window it still gets stuck on the blue screen. I tried to start it with the installation disk in the DVD drive but now it doesn't eject it either anymore. So, the situation is: I have an iMac with that wont go past the blue screen, with a workable mouse pointer and a stuck DVD in the drive. I am extremely frustrated especially since I do not have a second Mac to read the HD in the iMAc with and I don't have a backup system (except my PC Laptop). What can I do?

However..when I enter Time Machine it only goes back as far as today and when I try to do a back up it says there is not enough room. I would have hoped that my new iMac would recognise the back up as it's own and reinstate it as normal..but this doesn't seem to be the case.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a 3.06 GHz, 4 GB, iMac running 10.6.1. and I have a weird problem: while I was running Windows 7 under Boot Camp, during a simple task, my screen suddenly turned a solid shade of gray. Having no other option, I held the power button, turned off the computer, and turned it back on.
When I booted back to OS X, it happened again immediately upon opening iTunes. This time the color was solid black. Concerned, I turned off the computer, waited a moment and booted it back up in Safe Mode, where I currently have no problems whatsoever. From Safe Mode I repaired my disk permissions, cleared my caches, and zapped the PRAM while restarting my computer back into normal mode. Unfortunately the problem persists, this time my screen turning a solid shade of dark purple.
I'm going to call Apple Care in the morning, but has anyone heard of an issue like this? I searched the forums for a solution, but wasn't sure what terms to search for.
My iMac started freezing at the login screen. I power up, the apple logo comes up (sometimes the blinking globe comes up for some reason) and then the apple logo flashes as if it restarted or something, and the loading indicator shows up for a few seconds. Then at the login screen everything looks normal (my picture is there and correct name of account is shown) when I type the incorrect password, the text box shakes appropriately. When I type the correct password, the loading indicator appears, the mouse turns into a beach ball, and it hangs until I hard shutdown.
I know it's not a hardware issue because I just booted from the recovery partition and was able to view all my files in terminal. I would rather not reformat the hard drive. Is there a specific file that may be corrupted that I could delete and mavericks would automatically rebuild it?

I was off of my iMac for an hour or two so my screen saver when on. I went to wake the computer and it was frozen. I tried using the keyboard and mouse to wake up the computer from the screen saver, but it would not work, so I powered the iMac down manually from the button on the back. I let it sit for 15 minutes, then I tried to start the computer up again. Now at start up, I get to a blank white screen with the spinning moving pin wheel, and that is it.

I have been running out of hard drive space and have deleted a whole bunch of files... even deleted all the languages i didn't need from all my applications... about a week ago i freed up around 2GB.... but without saving and downloading anything my free space is now 70MB!! All I have been doing is watching streamed videos and I notice this reduces the drive space as I'm watching it!! Even opening firefox and some websites drops my memory by 0.1MB. I can't find anywhere where temporary files might be so i can delete them.
I never used to have this problem but I wonder if it has something to do with the fact that I now use wireless internet through a phone provider and a USB modem rather than my previous WiFi via cable broadband. Can anybody shed some light on what is stealing my memory when browsing?
If you remove a file from your mac, will time machine update it self and also remove it from the external drive? Or does it save and keep everything?
Also if it saves everything is there a way to go back and delete something, for instance some files that you don't need on your desktop.
i deleted the wrong folders in Lightroom and this has stopped me from viewing some photos in iPhoto,the thumbnail is there but when i click on it there is no image,can i use time machine to get the photos back and how do i do it as i have never used time machine before.

I'm not a big gamer but would like to have the horsepower to play a game should one come out that I want. I'm also not a big traveler so battery times are only of average importance.
Basically, I'm asking if I made a good purchase considering I have only average concerns for both battery and game performance. They had the new 7 hour battery 15" macbook pro for the same price but it doesn't have the dual GPUs.
I have a Mid-2007 Mac Mini and I've noticed every couple days, when I log out of the secondary account, it takes a relatively long time to return to the login screen. The blue screen sits there for maybe 30 - 40 seconds, but then when it returns to the main screen the whole machine freezes. The only thing I can move is the mouse, I can't click any of the buttons such as restart, sleep or get back into my account. I always have to do a hard shutdown.
