Could someone please tell me the part number for the 24" iMac 2.66GHz model, as I'm looking at purchasing one through work therefor I need the part number. And hints and tips for a first-timer?

I have had this quad g5 (dualcore 2.5ghz X 2) laying around for about a year that I purchased for $100 without a hard drive, super drive or a power cord. I was told that it was non working in the manner that ONE of the dual core cpu's had gone bad. I will be receiving my power cord this week to make sure that it still powers on but what the problem is.
My question is: If only one of the cpu's are bad, what is the part number I will be looking at? I am not wanting to spend a fortune on this to fix it, but If I do get it working I would like to drop 8-16gb ram in it, and setup a raid with 2 raptors.
Is it possible to find out the RAM manufacturer on a Macbook (it's a 3rd party module) by the part number? I've been searching for the past half hour, didn't found anything relevant Here are the full RAM specs:

It's the same AC power cable you plug into the MacBook PSU if you don't want to use the plug adapter. I find the Airport sticks out too much with the plug adapter, plus it wobbles too much for my liking. I've tried a search for obvious things (power cord, AC cable) and cannot find anything.
I did find a UK company that sells the cable from recycled Macs. However it would be nice if I could find it on Apples site It's the UK cable I need!
I am needing to replace the bottom case of my late 2006 MBP. It has a large dent in it that is causing some problems. My question is, do I need to get the exact part number listed on the bottom of my laptop (A1211) or can I get a bottom from any pre-unibody MBP i.e. A1260? Also, has anyone ever replaced this part? How difficult is it? I have experience working on laptops, I've just never taken a mac this much apart.

Which iMac would suit my line of work better and would it make much difference if I just bumped up the RAM on the smaller machine to accomodate what it lacks that the 2.66GHz machine boasts?

I see that bringing the RAM equal would be $25-30 on Crucial, and for both to bring it up to the 4GB supported is like $50-60. so not a big difference, and I'd probably do that regardless of which one was purchased.
So really, the main dividing factors are the 1) processor speed bump, 2) 250 vs 320 GB drive and 3) the graphics card. Also, is there a difference between "fronside bus" and "system bus" that greatly impacts performance? Do you think these differences are worth $150 price increase?
I know this might seem like a stupid question, but it really has me wondering. What is the difference between the i5 processor on the MacBook Pro and the iMac? Are they exactly the same except for the clock speed of .13? If I were to upgrade my MacBook Pro with a 7200RPM HD, would it be the exact same computer?
The reason why I ask is because I read online that the i5 on the iMac has 4 cores and the i5 on the MacBook Pro only has 2 and that got me confused, why would two different processors be called the same?

Does the logic board serial number match the computer serial number?
My reason for asking is that 4 months ago my sisters G5 17" logic board supposedly got replaced with a new or refurbished logic board but it seems by the workmanship of the board something fishy is going on.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI bought a second hand iMac G3 off eBay for a pretty good deal, and am trying to figure out where the buzzing is coming from.
It doesn't come with any CDs so I don't think I can do a hard wear test, but I've noticed it is happening even when the display is off, and is in sleep (although it gets less audible in sleep).
Another thing I noticed is that in OS X it will stop after a while of not using it, despite the screen being on and still showing the image, is this the hard drive stopping? When I go and touch a key or move the mouse it starts again.
Anyone know where I can find the right part number for my iMacs restore discs so I can order new or get the right ones off eBay?

Only the number keys on my keyboard are malfunctioning besides the number 0. For example when I press 1 it appears as q1. When I press 2 it appears as w2.
I am not sure if I accidentally pressed something on my keyboard that has changed the functioning of my number keys. I've tried fidgeting with the keyboard settings in System Preferences and holding down the f6 key but nothing has worked.

I was told my date and time was pre 2010 ?!?! checked and yup it was showing Jan 1st 2001.. set the date and time manually charged the iphone via USB then went out.Tried to text my wife and noticed her number was no longer recognised (Number only showing, not name) and that all texts sent this morning where appearing at the bottom of my text list not the top as normal (Figured this out as the iphone had synched with the messed up time and date on the Mac). I re entered her number and when I try to call it it tells me the number is not recognised??

I know I didnt spill anything on it, because this happened on my sisters account on the computer, while mine still worked. Now mine doesnt work. I like using it, so Id like to gget it to work again.
When I try using the 10 numbers and the decimal on the keypad (everything else in that section of the keyboard works), the computer freezes, and i have to shut down.
Oh, and I recently started using the program Blender, and I noticed this problem during that program, so it might have something to do with that.

iMessage does not show my phone number on iMac. My family has 3 iPhones we sync to this computer and only the other two are available to checkmark in preferences on the iMac. I tried updating my profile online, but only my number is listed on my account. iMessages works fine on my phone. I've tried signing out and back in and rebooting.

I have a Mac Mini 1.66GHz Intel Core Duo that i cant run Lion on due to the processor. I also have an older 15' Macbook Pro of the previous design that has a later Core 2 Duo. Am i able to use this in the mac mini as the Macbook Pro KB is broken and no real use to me? I am unsure but first findings say No as one is Socket M and other is Socket T but unsure if this is true.

However, I just moved into a new house and my current internet set up doesn't allow me to have my router next to my pro. So now I want to add and AirPort card.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI know there's been plenty of discussion about how hot the new MBP's are running or not (I've been through all the threads, and really appreciated Scott666's posts abt his i7 MBP) but I still havent seen any exact head to head temperature comparison between the 15" i5 2.4/2.53ghz and the 15" i7 2.66ghz, with both running the same programs/being stressed equally while the readings are taken.
I know it's a hassle, but it's a huge investment for me and i'd ideally like the i7 as I edit video but can't always have access to a desk to prevent crispy fried legs I keep hearing sweeping statements like 'the i5 should run cooler' but no real comparison has been done...
