Does anyone have any recommendations on an online backup service. I do have a backup external drive that backups my iMac but I am really thinking about paying for an online service. I think I will feel more secure knowing that if something happens to my computer all my data is replaceable.

So i dont have an external hd, but i want to clean install SL. Would it be a good idea to sign up for a free trial for an online storage site, do the backup, clean install sl, and then put my stuff back on and then cancel the trial? Would this work or is there some hidden bs i am missing. i dont want my card charged and it sayd 15 day trial.

I've looked into and trialed the following
Mozy - The upload to the web feature worked fine, but when i tried to restore a few files it took ages. It took nearly 4 hours to download a 700mb file which had uploaded in less than 10 minutes. My broadband is cable and is 10mb so i am able to achieve a download speed of around 1mb's
JungleDisk - I really really wanted to try this as the pricing was great and the service looked fantastic. However, seeing as i'm in the UK and don't have a credit card i am unable to persue this any further. FOr some reason Amazon S3 don't accept visa debit cards.
Dropbox - I love this service, however I fully understand that this is a syncing service and not a backup service. If i was able to only upload documents and not have them automatically download to my other machine's or work machine then that would be great.
I am looking for the best online photo backup service available. We will have around 60GB photos to start.

It works perfectly when I click on "Run" within Automator. My my new service shows up in the System Preferences/Keyboard Shortcuts/Services and I was able to give it a Keyboard Shortcut. However, it does not show up in any menu,ie, Finder/Services.
I still have my serious video ram problem set my other post. The apple store wanted $650 to replace my motherboard and the cheapest i found one online was $950, all for a machine that SL will not even support. I am limping along waiting for my i7 iMac to show (Whenever that is)
Here is my question. I am not sure if my data on tis machine is corrupted by my video ram problem so not sure I want to do the firewire transfer, that is if my machine will even last till my new one shows.
I have 2 back-ups a time machine and a super duper backup of 99% of my stuff. If I use my time machine back-up wont it wipe SL OS 10.6 off the new machine? When you do a TM back-up from disk utility from the OS10.5 leopard start-up disc, it says that it will completely wipe your HD clean.
BTW do any of you experts know if my video artifact problem is corrupting my files or just my video, while I am typing this everything looks good unless I look at my menu-bar or dock which is pretty distorted....
I have a MBP and a Time Capsule, but I also am considering an online backup service (in case of theft).
I would look at Mobile Me but I have circa 50GB of photo's and video's to back up and so there is not enough space.
I have had a look at IDrive which gives 150GB for $5 a month however i'm not sure whether it would affect Time Capsule as it also appears to back up files that have changed.
I'm looking for an online backup service at around $5 a month, where I can backup my Aperture library (50+ GB).So far I've tried these - and I don't like them...Mozy: It's all good, until restore. Then it sucks.Backblaze: Exclusion-based backup. Really cumbersome to exclude all folders on my Mac when I only need Aperture library to be backed up...iDrive: Bandwidth throttling doesn't work, they call it "auto-pause" and even while set to 25%, it still uploads with all my ADSL connection can do - making surfing terrible.
Keepit: No bandwidth throttle at all. Crashplan: Too much "in the background" - no menubar icon or anything else to keep an eye on. The app doesn't feel Mac native at all, I guess it's in java (I can live with it, but it makes me feel like they only do a Mac version so they can say "Mac's supported"). Carbonite: I've heard it's pretty bad, so I haven't tested it yet.So far Crashplan is my preferred choice but it's not one I'm happy with. I'll have to see how it does with a 50gb backup/restore process first though,
What does anyone think of Backblaze for online backup? Currently running Lion on a Mac Mini, & backing up regularly to an external drive, but if something happens at home. From what I see about Backblaze, the fact that they're very Mac-oriented is very inciting! (Former Mac people they say!) So, assuming that an online / offsite backup is a good idea - is Backblaze the way to go? Or one of the others?

I am trying to create a online radio station! I am going to do this on my macbook. I want some kind of program that will broadcast my audio, a online radio station. I want it to be free. Now I am a mac person. I have looked around and I can't see to figure out how to do this! I am going to play a playlist and also I want to have some kind of internet phone line. That can be in a different program. I am want to have a internet radio station where I can have on playlist playing and looping and I will drag in a recording of the person who called. I want it all to be free. Also I need to find some kind of plugin that will only play the audio output of itunes, that is where my playlist will be.

So I'm looking for a solution to backup my large iPhoto library - I've searched on this forum and on Google and didn't really come up with a solution.. Anyone have any ideas? I'm aware the inital backup will take forever, but it'll be much quicker afterwards..

We have a great DSL connection and a TP-link router. I just got a RAM upgrade hoping that was the problem, but it wasn't. Is my system just not speaking the Java and Flash lingo, because it's old? I got it in March 2006. How come my partner can watch video just fine here on his used PC laptop with Windows XP?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have an old imac G3 /500 mhz graphite from my old work sitting around just for my little one to play cd games. I use PC now to do my emailing and net-surfing, but gotta admit I used to love this machine, and though it's old it still looks cool. I didn't get around to connet it to go on-line, because of compatibility problem with PC(main cable modem is connected to a PC) but now thinking about upgrading it to go on-line for my kids to use. It has OS 9.0.4, 128MB of RAM with speed of 500 mhz w/front slot loading. I'm not computer savvy and don't know much about it, but was told before that system has to be upgraded to OS 9.1 or later first, in order for wireless card to be installed. Can anyone help me with exactly what I need to go on-line with this imac? since it's going to be mainly for my kids, I do not plan to purchase any additional application software, but willing to spend some to upgrade system, memory, and on wireless card. I'm thinking I might not even need newest system as long as it can go on-line, but which OS system(or should go higher?) would make more sense? How much more memory?Is it really possible to install a wireless card on this machine? Would there be a problem because main cable is connected to a PC in which wireless router is installed(for another window laptop)? Or is it even worth trying?
Appreciate any advice you computer genius out there could give me.

View 3 Replies View RelatedNot sure where to post this as it really applies to the Apple Online Store itself. On my iMac running 10.6.3 I can't check out on the Apple online store. I can add items to my cart (doesn't matter what it is: i've tried various items). But once I go to check out it asks me to login and when I do I get taken to a page that says "An error has occurred during your session. Please return to the Store Menu to continue shopping." No matter how many times I try to checkout, I'll get the same error.However, if I login to the Apple store from my Macbook Air running 10.5.8 (which recognizes me as the same account as the same items will show up in the cart) I can checkout fine with no problems.

I'm running an iMac (one of the all-white, 1.83 GHz C2D machines, with 512MB RAM) and i've noticed in recent months it's become outrageously slow, i have no idea why but it's just horrendous.
I'd really like to start afresh with a clean install of Leopard, but only if it will make a difference. Currently i'm finding that even with 2 apps open (eg Mail and Safari) there is serious lag now and again, and sometimes things lock up completely. Is this just a bloated OSX install or signs the computer is dying?
Anyway, i have a 180GB backup drive currently used for Time Machine, but if i reinstall then restore from that drive, won't it just restore all the bloat?

it is taking an eternity... really.
time machine took 36 hours and only did 1TB. of data (no program or other files)
Carbon Copy Cloner so far has taken over 25 hours and not even done 900 GB yet... (though it is making a bootable copy of everything even system and apps.)
