Mar 1, 2009I have an iMac G4 with Leopard, and there seems to be a glitch with my System Preferences. I can lock and password protect all of the panes available as I would normally. I have however discovered an issue. These locks seem to unlock themselves after powering back on. I'm not sure if the same happens upon logging back in, as I never log out to start with. Any solutions for this? Better yet, am I the only one who experiences this?

Jun 17, 2014I bought a new iMac in November 2013 which has a wireless keyboard and mouse, which worked well but won't connect since OS was updated. I've looked in System Preferences and there is no symbol for Blutooth. In System Report / Blutooth it says 'No Information Found'. It's strange because the keyboard and mouse worked fine up to downloading and installing the update (to OSX 10.9.3.) How I can get the Blutooth up and running again?

Sep 8, 2014I am using a mid 2011 iMac 21 inch running Mavericks 10.9.4. Processor is Intel Core i5. Memory is 4GB 1333MHz DDR3. I have had a HP Color LaserJet 2600n connected since I bought the iMac new in November 2011. The printer continued to work after I upgraded from Lion. Thinking that the printer was not working I recently deleted the drivers. It simply turned out that its USB cable had become disconnected. I have since tried to reinstal it through Printer and Scanner Preferences but the iMac does not recognize it. The HP driver download page offers drivers for Lion but not for Mavericks, even though a (different) HP summary page of available drivers claims that that 2600n is supported by Mavericks.

Feb 12, 2012One of my email accounts (a MS exchange account) suddently went offline and hasn't come back online for days! I have the exclamation point in the triangle next to the ghosted name of my account. I've tried multiple times to go back online w/o success Connection doctor was not helpful

OS X :: Unable To Make Any Changes On System Preferences / Put Parental Control On System
Mar 29, 2010could not be sure whether the Admin user - password reset with the CD would be the solution to my question as suggested in previous threads I searched - and have no idea where my start up install CD is
So my question-
I was trying to put parental control to ask for password when my computer starts up. I did something I guess and messed up the info.
I can log in with my own account when I restart my apple - which says now it is a standard account (must have messed that up)- but can not make any changes on system preferences or anything else that requires login and password. It requires Admin info. My own login that I use now used to be my admin so do not have any other info set.
now on system pref - accounts - an account titled "test" seems to be admin but can not even access that and reverse myself to be the admin since I can not unlock system pref. Or cant click on "Login Options" for the same reason.
There are no other users on this computer than me.
What do I need to do to make myself admin again?
Hope this was somewhat a clear question
OS X V10.7 Lion :: Sharing System Preferences Freezes Entire System
Jul 3, 2012I recently took the plunge and installed Lion after being content with Snow Leopard....well now I have quite a few issues. When I open system preferences for some reason it automatically opens to Network...why I'm not sure. When I click show all, then click sharing, I can't make any changes in the Sharing preferences without my entire system locking up. I can't force quit or anything. I can still use the mouse but all I have is the rainbow wheel!
I have searched and searched and haven't been able to fix it. I have tried booting into the Guest account and the same problem happens there. I have trashed all the plist files everyone says to try. I have tried repairing permissions etc. I feel like I have tried everything. Is there anything else that I can do without have to do a clean re-install. I'm hearing if I do this that I won't be able to migrate my files from by backups due to permission problems?
I also took a look at my system log and it is full of this!

May 10, 2009I have a macbook a little over a year old. It's my first mac and I love it. Yesterday though it started acting really weird. I first noticed that it was really, really hot and the fan was running. I turned it off and back on and here's what I found out:
Applications are being deleted from macbook. ITunes, IPhoto, iChat have clear question marks over icon. There are 8-10 blank spaces in the Applications folder where applications have been deleted. However, data is still there (ex. pictures still there, but no iPhoto).
Internet= Says I have internet but wont connect.
Cannot open " System Preferences" or "Internet Preferences".
If connected to home computer will connect to internet and allowed to open internet preferences but still no system preferences.
If shut down....takes a while to come back on and starts up 2-3 times.
Also "Preview" is gone. Now " ColorSync Utility" opens.
Is this my hard drive dying? I'm tech challenged, so any help would be greatly appreciated.

As far as I know the system creates swap files with ~80 MB in size if necessary. My question is if there is an optimum allocation size for people with 1.25 GB Ram.
