I have been trying to determine which Backup program is best to use to backup my MacPro to my CalDigit external eSATA VR Mini RAID drives? I have heard lots of good stuff about SuperDuper, Chronosynch, Carbon Copy Cloner...
View 3 Replies View RelatedI am trying to back up my 2TB HD (27" iMac Quad i7) to an external 2 TB hard disk.
it is taking an eternity... really.
time machine took 36 hours and only did 1TB. of data (no program or other files)
Carbon Copy Cloner so far has taken over 25 hours and not even done 900 GB yet... (though it is making a bootable copy of everything even system and apps.)
I'm looking for an app that will allow me to specify which folders I want to copy to my external drive, updating existing files within it and copying new ones.
I don't want to backup settings, my whole harddrive nor make a bootable backup. Just something to backup what I want to backup and where.
Not sure if Time Machine can do that, but it wants me to reformat my external before I can even find out..and considering how much is on there, I really don't want to have to remove that all elsewhere while doing so. [Don't think I could anyway, none of my internal drives have that much space.]
So, does anyone know of a relatively painless backup app that could do simply what I want? Doesn't sound all that complicated in comparison to some of the more convoluted backup apps I keep finding.
I just sold my iMac (described in sig) and need to backup my stuff to an external drive. What (free) program would allow me to backup my user name without having to manually drag everything over? Migration Assistant won't work as there will be a few days where I have no computer. Also I don't want to back up the OS itself; just my home folders (Pictures Music Movies etc.) and some applications.

I'm used to using pcs and I'm about to get a MacBook. If I do want to Download an antivirus program what would you recommend? What else can I do from preventing getting viruses?
I recently just switched from Windows and I've used Softpointer's Tag & Rename which was an incredible program for editing hundreds and hundreds of mp3 files at a time.
Is there a recommended program for Mac like Tag & Rename?
Need a good zip program for mac. One to make zip files not extract them. And don't say snow leopard already has that built in. That's garbage cuz it makes that extra useless OS_X folder and that's not needed at all. Plus it never works when say making themes for SMF. They never upload correctly. I know cuz it does on my moms windows 7. Already tried YemuZIP for mac. No good either. And if I manually upload the files it works fine. So it has to be the zip program. Any others besides mac or yemu good for making zip files. Preferably free.
View 2 Replies View Related1) Have a bootable CD that only runs the backup program (OSX not running)
2) Create an image copy of my hard drive
3) Be able to browse through the image file when I am working in OSX so that I can pick out individual files if needed
This is how I use Acronis TruImage on my Windows systems. For whatever reason, I don't trust backups made while the operating system is running. Maybe this comes from my old days trying to backup servers with ArcServe and having to buy a special addon to help you backup open files. I think it's just cleaner if I run the backup from a "dos" environment. I think my Acronis TruImage disc boots PC-DOS and runs only the TruImage software.
My MPB is having issues (it doesn't actually go to sleep, so when i come to use it, the battery is totally drained) and i want to backup everything before I take it into AppleCare, but I'm worried about some of my programs...
for example: I have Senuti on my computer (0.50.01). When I downloaded it, it was a free program. Now, the version that is out cost around $18 (i think). The old version I am using works fine for me, and I downloaded it free and legally--I don't want the new version.
Is there a program like roboform that i can us on my macbook
View 1 Replies View Relatedjust started university this year and for my math classes I was wondering if there was some program available which could help me to write down stuff on my Mac instead of taking notes and stuff. I am not looking for a complicated and advanced math program used for research and stuff but just a simple easy to use straightforward program. I have only one math course and its kind of basic so I repeat I am not looking for anything advanced.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI just bought a new iMac and am unable to use the program iDress any longer with Snow Leopard to make address labels. I guess they are no longer in business because I am unable to contact them. I am interested in address labels and know that I can do this thru AddressBook but with that program am unable to make a page of the same name address labels. (ex. my name for return labels) I also want to be able to merge with AddressBook for Christmas lists etc. Any recommendations as to a good software program. I understand that I can do this thru iWork (Pages) but haven't figured that out or found where to download the right Avery templates for the Mac.
View 2 Replies View RelatedIs there any program that will smartly back up my files? For example, I have all my music backed up to my external, but every month or so i have a couple new bands, albums in, that I don't really remember. So basically I want a program that will scan both folders, find what files are missing in the external and copy only those files over.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a multitude of hard drives that I store various media on. I have tried to find a program that would sync a folder on a NES drive and a USB drive on my extreme. The program would be a replacement for backup of the drive. I have found tons of windows freeware/shareware versions, but have not found an Mac option.

So on microsoft paint, you have the ability to set specific margins when printing, fit to page, center, etc... as well as change printer, paper type, and ink settings for optimal quality..
however i couldnt find one thus far to use on my mac.. closest ive downloaded has been google's picasa but there are only preset margins and nothing regarding print quality, etc
so i need a program with these capabilities..it doesnt need to be a good photo editor... i just need to open existing photos and be able to adjust print margins/ quality myself
The file extension is exactly that, .igs. I can't get it to open using anything, nor can I find very much information on what programs even deal with it. I see alot of stuff about .iges.
These files were created about 6 years ago. I've tried TurboCad demo, eDrawings demo, TouchCad demo. Nothing works. All say unsupported file.
OK, I'm not the most cautious web browser in the world and from time to time have found myself connected to sites that were probably a bad choice. I haven't had any problems in the past year until this morning. My SO was emailing someone and several error messages popped up regarding System Errors and an Internet Antivirus Pro warning, which of course wanted them to download the program, I assume. It was not downloaded. The mouse cursor would still move, but you couldn't click on anything on the screen. So a hard force quit was done, and the modem was shut off.
Turned the Mac back on, ran a Intego VirusBarrier check, all was OK. I then googled "Internet Antivirus PRO" and it sounds as if it is a major piece of malware/spware/trojan....something bad that is very difficult to remove(from a PC...that is-there even is a YouTube video showing you how to go about the removal process on Windows). I can find NOTHING on this "program" being on a Mac. Should I be concerned? Is it as easy as going into my downloads folder and deleting anything with an .'.exe' in it, or is it more complicated.
I wanted to know what program you all prefer for cleaning out your mac.
I have a new macbook, and it is not as fast as the first week I got it.
Does anyone have any good apps to solve a manner as this one?
I am planning on converting my old HI8 tapes to DVDs.
I know there are a few options. Can anybody suggest a simple solution?I know there is a software you can install on my Mac. How is it called? Where can I get it?
I just switched over from a PC a couple of days ago and I am getting used to my new Macbook Pro, and MAC OS X. However I have run into a problem I have no idea how to fix, or what's wrong.
I have the "Switching to the Mac" book from the Missing Manuals series, and throughout the book it mentions wonderful keyboard shortcuts that can be used for a variety of things. The problem is that most of them do not seem to work. For example, Control-F4 is apparently meant to cycle through all open windows, only it does nothing on my computer. This is true of many of the shortcuts I have tried. I tried to search the forums here but haven't found an answer, nor has googling turned up anything useful.
Also, I was using a program called Syncback to sync my flash drive with a folder on my hard drive before, and that program is not available for macs, so I have been looking for a replacement. I tried Rsync, but it didn't seem to work - only syncing some of the files in the specified folder. Does anyone know of a freeware program for synchronization of files that is good?
so im a big cycling fan and i like to download and watch all the races that are held in Europe. however not all of them have english speaking announcers, so im wondering if there is a program that can translate in subtitles or something.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI know there is dream weaver out there but I am not that well versed in using yet. I need something that is like Iweb 09 but will work better. It appears that when you create something in Iweb 09 and let's say it's [URL] it will make the home page this: [URL]
It seems like iweb adds on the extra extentension on the end. I also notice that Iweb when you save the program to a server the site takes forever to load and I think it has something to do with the size of the file or site. not sure.
What I like about Iweb is the drag and drop feature with text box and so on. Is there a program out there where I am not paying a monthly service charge to use a program that is loaded on a server? I understand I have hosting fees by the way.
So any programs out there that are mac friendly and has a user friendly interface?
i was typing some stuff on my computer and started slamming keys and this window popped up (see attached). Anyway, i'm pretty sure the key combo is shift+fn+control+command+s.

Is there a plugin for iMovie to fix this or something? I would you Final Cut, but my computer is slow enough, and adding heavy video-editing applications like that would not be good. Especially since I've had to replace my hard drive twice in the past year.
I have a program that was backed up using Time Machine and I was wondering if I could delete the program from my Back Up history with out having to start a band new back up of every thing.
