Intel Mac :: (Mid 2010) Memory Bank Was Already Damaged Before Bought It?

Jun 9, 2012

I use my Mid 2010 iMac for virtualizing routers. I noticed that with the 4gb of RAM that was already installed in the iMac was not enough. So, I did some research and found out that, my iMac can hold up to 16gb of RAM. I did some more research and found out how to replace the memory in my iMac. Then, I went to Micro Center and bought 16gb of RAM and brought it back to my apartment. Now, I powered off my iMac and unplugged the power cord, flipped the iMac upside down and unscrewed the three screws that were holding the memory cover on.  After removing the memory cover, and pulling back the memory tabs/flaps, I shined a light down in the memory slots and found one memory slot that looked damaged. I was not completely sure, so I went ahead and removed the old memory by pulling hard on the memory tabs/flaps, and the memory was unseated.

I remove the memory and replace it with four, 4gb sticks of memory. Once I powered on the iMac, a memory beep sounded off. So, I unplugged the power cord from the iMac and removed two of the four memory sticks out of the iMac. The two sticks of memory I removed was out of BANK 0/DIMM0 and BANK 1/DIMM0. BANK 0/DIMM0, is the one that is damaged and my hardware warranty has expired. I bought this iMac damage, and now it won’t support 16gb of memory. What should I do? By the way, the other 8gb of memory in the other two BANKs are working.

Info:
iMac, Mac OS X (10.7.4), Memory BANK 0/DIMM0 is bac

MacBook Pro :: Finding Online HDD Backup?

Dec 5, 2009

Just wondering if many people use online hard drive back-ups, and if so which one?

I was looking at the iDrive pro package which is $4.95 a month for 150gb.

Are there any options that allow a one touch whole HD backup?

OS X :: Which Cloud For Online Backup

Apr 3, 2010

I have a MBP and a Time Capsule, but I also am considering an online backup service (in case of theft).

I would look at Mobile Me but I have circa 50GB of photo's and video's to back up and so there is not enough space.

I have had a look at IDrive which gives 150GB for $5 a month however i'm not sure whether it would affect Time Capsule as it also appears to back up files that have changed.

OS X :: Looking For An Online Backup Service?

May 22, 2010

I'm looking for an online backup service at around $5 a month, where I can backup my Aperture library (50+ GB).So far I've tried these - and I don't like them...Mozy: It's all good, until restore. Then it sucks.Backblaze: Exclusion-based backup. Really cumbersome to exclude all folders on my Mac when I only need Aperture library to be backed up...iDrive: Bandwidth throttling doesn't work, they call it "auto-pause" and even while set to 25%, it still uploads with all my ADSL connection can do - making surfing terrible.

Keepit: No bandwidth throttle at all. Crashplan: Too much "in the background" - no menubar icon or anything else to keep an eye on. The app doesn't feel Mac native at all, I guess it's in java (I can live with it, but it makes me feel like they only do a Mac version so they can say "Mac's supported"). Carbonite: I've heard it's pretty bad, so I haven't tested it yet.So far Crashplan is my preferred choice but it's not one I'm happy with. I'll have to see how it does with a 50gb backup/restore process first though,

Applications :: Finding Best Online Backup For The Mac?

Jan 16, 2009

I'm currently looking into online backup solutons for my macbook. I intend to keep backups of all my photo's and home movies.

I've looked into and trialed the following

Mozy - The upload to the web feature worked fine, but when i tried to restore a few files it took ages. It took nearly 4 hours to download a 700mb file which had uploaded in less than 10 minutes. My broadband is cable and is 10mb so i am able to achieve a download speed of around 1mb's

JungleDisk - I really really wanted to try this as the pricing was great and the service looked fantastic. However, seeing as i'm in the UK and don't have a credit card i am unable to persue this any further. FOr some reason Amazon S3 don't accept visa debit cards.

Dropbox - I love this service, however I fully understand that this is a syncing service and not a backup service. If i was able to only upload documents and not have them automatically download to my other machine's or work machine then that would be great.

Mac Mini :: Using Backblaze For Online Backup?

Jun 4, 2012

What does anyone think of Backblaze for online backup? Currently running Lion on a Mac Mini, & backing up regularly to an external drive, but if something happens at home. From what I see about Backblaze, the fact that they're very Mac-oriented is very inciting! (Former Mac people they say!) So, assuming that an online / offsite backup is a good idea - is Backblaze the way to go? Or one of the others?

OS X :: Backup IPhoto Library To Online Solution?

Jun 6, 2009

Having a Time machine backup is all good and such - but it's all in one location, so if something like a fire were to strike at home.. Well, both copies would be gone. So I'm looking for a solution to backup my large iPhoto library - I've searched on this forum and on Google and didn't really come up with a solution.. Anyone have any ideas? I'm aware the inital backup will take forever, but it'll be much quicker afterwards..
Price isn't an issue - but rather, if I need to retrive my data, I don't want to be paying out of the nose..

Applications :: Preferred Backup And Imaging Software 2010?

Aug 3, 2010

This is going to be a series of threads/polls with the main objective of finding out what applications the members of MacRumors use. These threads/polls are not meant for discussion on whether or not one application is better than another or to ask any questions about these particular applications. It's only purpose is to discuss what application you use (or don't use) as it pertains to the topic. The goal is to collect these series of threads in the end and compile a list of all the polls so that members can view what the members of MacRumors use most often. The applications listed in the poll are by no means definitive and/or complete. If you use another application, vote Other and post the name so others can look into it. Even if you don't use any of the applications listed, you can simply click None. I've tried to list as many applications as I could find for the particular topic. Some are paid, some are free. Some cover all versions of OS X, others only a few versions.

MacBook Air :: 2010 From 13" 2010 And IPad Owner's Point Of View

Oct 26, 2010

I have an iPad 32GB WiFi and a MacBook Pro as well so I was trying very hard to justify myself in getting an 11" MBA but ending up talking myself out of it. The 13" MBP is perfect for my uses. It's already lightweight and portable as it is. After playing with the 11" in the Apple store, I was impressed on how light it was. This no doubt blows away any netbook or any notebook in it's weight class in terms of size and performance. However, the MBP's battery life, hard drive space, and processing power OUTWEIGHS the reasons of dumping my 13" MBP for the Air. Also, I have it hooked up to a 21.5 Inch HP monitor at home and it's good enough to use as a main computer at home, and light enough to take on the road.

If I needed to lookup something quickly in bed or around the house, that's where the iPad comes in. If I needed to send a quick e-mail, my HTC Evo is already great at doing that. If I didn't have a 13" MBP or even the iPad, I would have most likely went ahead and purchased the MBA. Just now at this point, spending another $1000+ or getting rid of my MBP doesn't make much sense... yet.

MacBook Pro :: Worth Buying 13" 2010 Or MB 2010 Better?

Apr 15, 2010

I've been lurking MacRumors ever since 'the wait for Arrandale' began and finally decided to sign up now so I could post this thread. I've been a Windows user for a long time now and I have a Win7 rig at home. However, I'll be going to uni later this year so I need a good portable notebook that's suitable for the common mailing 'n surfing, but also for doing some programming in Eclipse (Java) and PHP work etc. I still have my Win7 box at home for gaming and things that require larger screensize, but for the notebook... I feel really attracted to OSX with a MBP.

It will be my first Mac, but my desktop dualboots with OSX and I love it. So that's why I have decided that my school notebook will be a Mac. This is why I have been closely watching the rumors for the new MBPs and ofcourse I was pretty disappointed when I saw that the 13" model still had a C2D cpu... It's not that I need a beefed up CPU in my notebook (... I have a 3.6 GHz quad at home ), but it feels 'wrong' to buy a MBP 13": even the 2009 MacBook has a C2D, so what will the MB 2010 update bring? Is it really worth the extra money? Anyone with a similar situation?

MacBook Pro :: 13" Won't Read Some Bought DVDs?

Mar 12, 2012

my 2009 13" MBP (OS X 10.6.8, Optiarc DVD RW AD-5960S) won't accept some purchased/rented DVDs. The drive makes funny noises (mrrrrrp-mrrrrp....) for 1-2 minutes and then ejects the DVD. The DVD cannot be ejected manually during that time.OS and software are up to date, lens is clean, hardware has been checked, same DVDs will play on my linux box, on stand-alone players and on several win boxes. The problem occurs with some DVDs only (1/3 of all rented/purhased DVDs). Some won't play in 9 out of 10 tries and then suddenly will.Is there a solution for this?
