My iMac is fairly old. It's one of the white ones that has the isight and mic. I don't remember the generation. For basic typing and internet needs it's still runs great! However since I updated to snow leopard I've found alot of my software isn't compatible, thus I want to revert to tiger. Atleast with Tiger my software works.
View 8 RepliesLike many here I am a reasonably 'savvy' user but have got very grey over the past week or so. I run an aged and trusted G4 and took a number of decisions recently - to add a second HD, to upgrade to Leopard from Tiger, to upgrade to the 2008 Mac Office and to install CS4 (all legal).
I am getting major problems with the machine hanging up and believe that it is to do with Leopard and CS4 (the latter of which I wish to remove). So, the nub of my question is whether I can revert the machine to Tiger and if so, how!
I changed the icon to an image I found online and because of the app store icon. I think I want to change it back because it looks good with the it. So, how do I do this?

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a G5 with 10.4.11. There is 3 partitioned drives that I want gone and set back to the original 1 drive. I just cant seem to figure out what I am doing wrong. I don't need anything on the Mac as I have already backed up all info I wanted saved. When I go into the disk utilities/partitions/volume scheme it shows 3 drives. When I switch the volume scheme to 1 partition their are no options to "apply" for me to revert to 1 partition only.

I saved everything in k peg. But the works had gone in the raw files, We need a way to step back after the presses on raw. From black and white back to colour, without having to revert to originals.

I wasn't exactly happy with Safari browser as it would block many sites and were considered incompatible so I downloaded the free Firefox browser (the 2.0 version) of which I still have. I'm aware that there is a much newer version and would like to download that, but I've heard a lot of people saying they have been having severe problems with it, but then they have PCs and not Macs. So my question is for you Mac users that use Firefox, have you had major problems with the newer version? I'm real hesitant to download if I'm going to have the same problem PC users are having...like constantly crashing. Also would my old Tiger software be compatible? I don't want to upgrade to Leopard.

Sprung on me today, when I first tried to sync the calendar of my work machine with home machine, the work machine being Leopard and the home machine being Tiger, "Revert Failed Database is Unchanged" This, is really annoying. I have seen the question posed in a few places, but no solutions. I had thought I could open the files in textedit or Word and see what the differences are, but I haven't been able to open them.

Ok, this is the setup: got an external hard drive hooked up to an airport extreme via USB. I have a macbook that's a few years old with the intel core duo processor and running OS 10.4.11.
I want to be able to see/backup to this hard drive wirelessly from my macbook while on my home network. Basically, everything I've found online makes it look like I have to have my extreme on an 802.11n connection or whatever, which my macbook isn't capable of (intel core duo processor), right? The reason I say this is that all the instructions on how to turn this on circle around options that I don't see in my airport admin utility program.
So is this possible, or am I gonna have to get a new macbook before I can do this. If I get leopard or snow leopard would I be able to do this with time machine, or do I need to be able to do 802.11n for that, too?
How do I back up or save my Tiger OS before I start the upgrade to Snowleopard? Will the install ask me or do I have to do that first? Also, if I don't save it willnI lose all my files? Music, pics, docs, etc?Â

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have the CD version of tiger and am trying to install it to a recently purchased iMac G3. The Installer installs disc 1, resets, but doesn't boot up to install disc 2, it simply asks again to install disc 1. The Mac for some reason will not boot from the installed software and therefore I cannot complete installation. Can anyone figure out why the mac refuses to boot from the HD in order to install disc 2?

I bought an external blu ray writer and cannot make use of it as os x does not seem to support it and when I use makemkv files they are extremely choppy. I also have windows installed on a second partition, however the software included (cyberlink power dvd) will only play audio and no video.

My major concern only now is that i was wondering if there's anyway to hook my PS3 to this new imac since the displays are phenomenal and it lacks a blu-ray player. The 21.5" has no DVI input while the 27" does, so i'm guessing i'll have to get the 27" if i want my PS3 to connect in anyway? If there is no perfect way to get 1080p then let me know and i will stick to the 21.5" since the PS3 connecting to the 27" was the only reason i was buying the larger model.

I have an iMac g4 800mhz, 768 mb of ram 40 gb internal HD and 250 gb external HD. I plan on upgrading to Tiger this wednesday. Also, my mac has been a bit quirky over the last year or so. The internal HD seems to almost spin constantly. It spins and spins....spins down, then right back up again. Weird. Once in a while the apps act strange as well. So, I plan on doing a clean install of Tiger. Everything is backed up on the external HD.
My question is, does anybody know how Tiger will run on my system? Will doing a clean install eliminate these "quirks"? And finally, will quicktime 7 finally run smooth with the upgrade? Right now, Quicktime isn't as smooth as it used to be with Quicktime 6.
Can anyone suggest some modestly priced camcorders that are compatible with iMacs?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI got called out to a support job the other day and found the lady had an iMac G3 Bondi Blue running Mac OS 8.5. The problem is with her internal 56k modem. It will no longer connect to the Internet and is reporting the error message:
"The modem is not responding properly. Reset the modem, check it's connections, and check that the correct port and modem type are selected in the modem control panel."
Now I'm no expert with the old school iMac's but that seems to me like the modem is knackered and she needs a new one. I did recommend just opening it up and slotting in a replacement internal modem but the client would rather have an External.
So I was wondering if any one around here knew what kind of modem I could purchase for her that would definitely be compatible with such an old version of Mac OS?
I have had a google around for it, but I can't seem to find a Hardware Compatability List or a modem that claims it is compatible with Mac OS 8 so I'm kind of grasping at straws here hoping that someone might happen to be using such an old version and might be able to point me in the right direction.
I'm trying to upgrade my aging iMac to be as compatible as possible, due to Diablo 3 requiring a minimum OS 10.6.8 to operate. As previously i tried to upgrade to Lion but it says my computer is unable to process installation, I am not sure if it's because i did not upgrade from Snow Leopard.
