I've long used Max Rudberg's Aqua Extreme scrollbars and progress bars in Jaguar, Panther, Tiger and Leopard and now I have them working perfectly in Snow Leopard!
All you need is your custom Extras.rsrc and Extras2.rsrc files from your Leopard backup (you made a backup right?) and copy the files to:
Code:
/System/Library/Frameworks/Carbon.framework/Versions/A/Frameworks/HIToolbox.framework/Versions/A/Resources/
At first I didn't think this worked because in Leopard, in order to see the new theme changes, you only had to re-launch an app, but it Snow Leopard you have to do a full log out and log back in
This may or may not be possible, Is there anyway to make the OSX Tiger style menu bar square on the edges instead of round on Tiger?
If I can tweak a file great, I dont want to rob any performance with a theme or anything like that.
Here's the link, looks like they have a smaller size to fit the 13", that's great.

with leopard, you could take the install CD and install it on a billion computers, because it never asked you for a serial number...
is this the same case with snow leopard?
or does it really come with a serial number?
I am wanting to revert back to Tiger from Leopard. What is the best way to accomplish this safely? I use iCal extensively and Apple really messed with it. The added features in Leopard do not add enough real functionality to make me willing to lose solid features.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI've always like the clean look of the old Tiger menu bar. Is there any way to get it on Leopard? (preferably without any extensive work and without the rounded edges)
View 2 Replies View RelatedOk, this is the setup: got an external hard drive hooked up to an airport extreme via USB. I have a macbook that's a few years old with the intel core duo processor and running OS 10.4.11.
I want to be able to see/backup to this hard drive wirelessly from my macbook while on my home network. Basically, everything I've found online makes it look like I have to have my extreme on an 802.11n connection or whatever, which my macbook isn't capable of (intel core duo processor), right? The reason I say this is that all the instructions on how to turn this on circle around options that I don't see in my airport admin utility program.
So is this possible, or am I gonna have to get a new macbook before I can do this. If I get leopard or snow leopard would I be able to do this with time machine, or do I need to be able to do 802.11n for that, too?
Like many here I am a reasonably 'savvy' user but have got very grey over the past week or so. I run an aged and trusted G4 and took a number of decisions recently - to add a second HD, to upgrade to Leopard from Tiger, to upgrade to the 2008 Mac Office and to install CS4 (all legal).
I am getting major problems with the machine hanging up and believe that it is to do with Leopard and CS4 (the latter of which I wish to remove). So, the nub of my question is whether I can revert the machine to Tiger and if so, how!
My iMac is fairly old. It's one of the white ones that has the isight and mic. I don't remember the generation. For basic typing and internet needs it's still runs great! However since I updated to snow leopard I've found alot of my software isn't compatible, thus I want to revert to tiger. Atleast with Tiger my software works.
View 8 Replies View RelatedHow do I back up or save my Tiger OS before I start the upgrade to Snowleopard? Will the install ask me or do I have to do that first? Also, if I don't save it willnI lose all my files? Music, pics, docs, etc?

With Leopard's release, iTunes 8 UI Tweaks and Safari's UI enhancements, should the Aqua UI go or be made optional for a more refined look in OS X? The blue bars on Safari look out of place to me atleast.

View 1 Replies View RelatedHi I have a problem with my PowerBook
It boots to BSD (Command Line Interface) instead of OS X (GUI Aqua)

Please note that the screen on the PowerBook is broke so I can only use it connected to an external monitor
When I try to reinstall the system, the picture does not get pushed across to the external monitor meaning I can not see what I am doing and thus can not reinstall
Ok so today I was on my computer and I noticed on my Xchat Aqua IRC client I kept disconnecting on one of the servers I was on. I checked my internet thinking it was my ISP dropping and it was running fine. I checked my computer and it was ok because I had AIM msn and all that running. So i get on my other computer and use a browser based IRC client to see if it does it there and when my xchat disconnected I didnt disconnect on the browser. I then noticed.. there was a $%&%$# who must have found an exploit threw DCC for xchat because he was typeing things like "DCC send tralala 0 0 0" and I would disconnect.
So my question is did anyone know about this or know how to fix it? because its really annoying and I cant find anything to stop him.
I was wondering if it's possible to install Leopard without any of the OS X UI, simply the terminal? I know this may seem really useless but I have my iBook G4 that's been completely useless for the past year and I thought I'd try to do something with it... maybe use it to stream music or something.
View 5 Replies View Relatedi've been watching some videos on youtube and saw that they had their dock on the bottom but with the side dock style. To be more clear i'll use pictures. This is how my dock looks right now: [URL] This is how I want it to look, just on the bottom not the side: [URL]
View 8 Replies View RelatedBasically I changed my dock to look like it was wood, not the usual grayish transparency one. It all worked. However, when I moved it from the bottom of the screen to the right of the screen, it goes back to the original dock. And even if I then try to change it to the wood-like one, or even any other dock, it just doesn't change. I know, trivial, but it's just bugging me. Why?
The above is solved. However, then I went to try and find some replacement docks for 2D? If that's what you call it - but I can't find anything. What I have done is put the dock on the right hand side, making it 2D, and all I have been able to find searching the net are 3D replacement docks. Does anyone know how I can possibly change the dock when it's on the right (or left) side? I want to make it transparent, or at least a little lighter.
I am new to MAC and love it! Have questions about Bootcamp and am hoping I am posting this in the right spot. Hubby has now decided to switch to a MAC but he has a couple of windows based programs that he needs to run, he will not use the windows side for e-mail or internet. From my research it seems like you need Windows XP with service pack 2 already installed to use bootcamp, is this correct? If so I am having difficulty finding this inexpensively since we rather put the money into the computer rather than XP.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm new to the Mac world and will be getting Snow Leopard in September. Is this upgrade more comparable to a Windows service pack, or is it like a new version of Windows?
View 2 Replies View Relatedpersonally I thought that the family pack was for if you had 2+ Macs to install Snow Leopard on. I didn't really care for upgrading my mac mini so i just bought the regular Snow Leopard for my Macbook Pro. Out of curiosity i tried installing SL on both and it worked.
So what are the differences between the regular Snow Leopard and the family pack?
I've had my Macbook Pro for nearly two or three years now and I never really had a problem with the battery. However, I recently got a new charging cord when my old one broke. Since this time, when I have the charger plugged in and go to remove the battery pack (to conserve energy) it just turns off the system like it's in sleep mode. It'll only come back when I put the battery back in. I also got a new battery a few months prior to the new charger, and I can't remember if I took the battery pack out with the new battery and the old charger. So I'm not sure if it's a problem with the new cord, or the new battery.
View 1 Replies View RelatedUsing my iMac today working away and all of a sudden the screen went black, there was no power to the computer at all. I have checked the fuse and that is ok. I am getting power to everything else. I reset the SMC as per Apple instructions on their website. Again nothing.
I then left it turned off for a good 5 mins and then turned on the power. The fans turned on and the mac then chimed, the creen came on and I thought everything was ok. Then the computer turned off, fans and hard drive sped It didnt even start booting to the Apple logo or the log on screen.
I am thinking this is a power issue within the computer and this will need to be replaced. I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem. My iMac is a 2008 21inch iMac. It is connected to a APC UPS which again all power ports are working, as I have tested that with a desk lamp. What I do normally is turn the UPS when I have shutdown my Mac in the evening and then power it up next day. While the UPS is doing is power self test I then boot the Mac, I am wondering if I should just leave the UPS turned on all the time and just unplug my iMac when I am not using it. Sometimes I do pop it to sleep last thing at night, but recently I just turn it off.
It has had heavy use so I am wondering if it is indeed curtains and I need to buy a new iMac. Maybe it is an excuse to buy a 27inch one! (Would be nice)

Can anyone recommend some pads like Wacom? And what are some good uses for them, I've never used one but ive been looking at one for maybe something like cad?
View 12 Replies View RelatedI am writing my thesis in Pages 08. I need to have a TOC for all my headlines and I am using the TOC function for that. The problem is that I also want a figure list that updates automatically, TOC style. I can't find ant function for a figure list so I tried to give the figure text a different paragraph style then the regular headlines and then simply add a second TOC showing only that style. Unfortunately that did not work either since Pages only seem to allow one TOC per document.

View 12 Replies View RelatedI had just installed a new router, a Belkin F6D4230-4, and whenever my sister and I, both MacBook users, attempt to go on certain websites, the page style becomes extremely complicated and ugly to work with, with most pictures not loading. I had tried this with both Safari 4 and Firefox 3.5, but I can't figure out what the problem is and what I have to do to fix it. Here is a photo of what my websites generally look like:

I'm pretty sure it's not my browser's settings, because both of my browsers are on their defaults, but I could definitely be wrong.
If you go into System Preferences>Appearance>Font Smoothing Style, You'll see a drop down menu with different choices. I think the best looking font smoothing type is "Standard - best for CRT". I've tried all the other styles and they don't look good to me. I think the other styles look too sharp, too bold and I don't like colored pixels around the edge of my text.
By the way, in Snow Leopard, there's only 2 options now. It's just a checkbox that says: [ ] LCD Font Smoothing. When checked, it acts like "Medium - best for flat panel" and when unchecked it acts like "Standard - best for CRT". What is your favorite font smoothing style? For changes to take effect, you have to quit and relaunch your apps to see the difference.
I have a MacBook2,1 - the white one with the 'old style keyboard' i.e. with the expose and spaces keys on f8,f9 keys etc. I am wondering as my work machine has the the expose keys on f3, and f4 keys and the new white macbook has the same keyboard layout with the expose key etc on the early f keys is it possible to purchase a new Macbook keyboard and put it in the older macbook.
