I am obviously not using the correct search terms to find this info, but I want to upgrade my iMacs RAM. The system I have is a refurb 21.5 iMac with 3.06 GHz dual core processor. I want to go from the current 4Gig to 8Gig. Everytime I check the different sites for their online memory guides, I see the 3.06 Intel in the 24" but not in the 21.5. Are they the same? I just want to order the right memory the first time.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm looking to buy a new Imac 21.5 inch but I'm undecided on whether to go for the 3.06 Ghz base model or the 3.2 Ghz model. I'd be using it for internet, general office work, a little video and quite a lot of photo editing and cataloguing. Possibly a bit of gaming but not much and nothing too intensive. I think 500GB HDD in the base model would be ample storage space for my needs. My main concern is whether it is worth spending the extra ?250 essentially for the 5670 GPU with more graphics memory in the 3.2Ghz model over the 4670 GPU in the base model. I'm hoping to get around 4 years usage out of the machine before I start looking to upgrade. Would it be worth spending the extra for more graphics power or would I be better off buying the base model and possibly adding extra memory?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a 3.06Ghz 24in imac. Safari crashes a lot. Don't know what to do. I've reset Safari several times, and downloaded Safari 4 in order to uninstall and reinstall a new Safari 3. Safari version is 3.2.1. I've reset pram, restarted, and verified permissions several times over. Crashes happen almost exclusively when multiple windows are open. Other than that, I really am not sure of a pattern. Also, the restore tabs from last browsing session rare restores everything. I guess it's a buggy feature.

I am wondering if apple updates the iMacs can I send mine in becuase I probably won't get mine for 3-5 days and the updates would come on Tuesday. If I can send it I'm what do I have to do and how can I do it. Also if they changes the ram to 2gb standard do I get 100 back because I updated it. Apple updated it to the new imacs at no aditional cost, I now got this: 24" imac 2.8ghz, 2gb ram, 320gb hdd, 256mb ati graphics card and wireless keyboard and mouse. Also from amazon for 200 dollars less than what apple charges i got the logitech z-5500 digital 5.1 surround sound speakers.

I have all the latest updates, and had XP installed until like 2 hours ago. I got a copy of Windows 7 Pro through my school and tried installing it.
I get passed the beginning Windows is loading files screen, then it freezes at the "Starting Windows" screen.
I don't understand how it can be my cd when I can do the beginning phase and boot to it, but I can't ever even begin to install because it freezes at the Starting Windows screen.
I have installed 32-bit XP numerous times, 64-bit and 32-bit vista... so what is the deal? Why isn't this working..
I have been waiting for arendale (or however you spell it) and I just can't seem to make myself wait any longer so my question is should I get the current 15" 3.06Ghz or wait..And another question what would be the difference in the 3.06 and the 2.8Ghz?Just really tired of waiting but I don't want my new mbp to be "old" in a week or so when the new ones come out I dunno.. maybe I'm chasing Technology here but I would really like an i5 or i7 chip

Truth is I have not really used the Macbook as a laptop in months. My usage is primarily Internet, word processing, and photography so I really think I can benefit from the added screen size and potentially power of a 27 inch iMac. So my question is:
1) do you think the latest 3.06GHz C2D will be a performance increase from my current MBP for Aperture 3 or should I just spend the extra for the 2.66 i5?
My iMac stopped booting. The fans and hard-drive spin up but the screen stays black and I can hear that the hard drive isn't been read after the initial spin up.
I decided to open it up to take a look at the diagnostic LEDs to see if it might help me diagnose the problem (the most obvious failure is the logic board). I can't find the LEDs anywhere, where are they? Does my iMac even have diagnostic LEDs?
The other possibility is that I can't find the lights because they aren't lighting up. The fans, the hard drive and the CD drive all spin up fine so at least I know that there is some power running though it.

iMac intel core duo...
My computer had 1GB of RAM, so I just bought a 2GB RAM card. When I installed both cards together i can hear the hard drive start up and then nothing, no boot up, just a black screen and the "sleep" light is just solid. I know both cards are fine because I tested each by themselves and they both started up and worked well, its only when they are both in at the same time does it do this. also both slots work because i tested both of them! I tried to do the PRAM reset and it doesnt work, and I tried to do it with one card in and then reset and then shutdown and install the 2nd card and still nothing. Please give me some advice, i am soooo frustrated!!

I use my imac for audio recording and it has served me well. Although its age is showing which is causing me to find new creative ways to stretch its CPU power, I wonder if a 3.06 GHz is a good enough boost (from my current 2.0 Ghz).

My family bought a mid-2010 iMac 21.5". Being our 1st Mac, we're still learning it. My son has "toyed" with Garage band a few times. My wife wants to learn iPhoto but hasn't found the spare time. But will soon - once our disabled kid goes back to school. Have't tried iMove yet. Don't think we will...ith above in mind, is the upgrade to iLife 11 (for upgrades to iMovie, iPhoto and Garageband) worth it? Is the updates in iPhoto and Garageband with the $50 cost? Or, is using current version (that came with my iMac) "good enough" for our usage?
