I am going to buy my very first mac and I've decided it's going to be an imac. I'm completely new to mac and don't know which one of the two 21.5 inches (i3 3.06 or i3 3.2) to buy. Like the title says the main usage is going to be for music production and Logic or logic express is going to be used with lots of midi plug-ins. I'm also going to work with some photo and video (nothing serious yet), some web browsing and mailing (the regular things to do on a pc). And maybe some WoW. No heavy gaming on the mac, I have a nice windows pc for that I have a discount when buying that makes it harder to choose:
21,5" 3,06GHz - 1079$
21,5" 3,2GHz - 1349$
Which imac is for me and which one is most future proof?
My router has died and I need to buy a new one. I'm thinking about the airport extreme base station but considering apple's update cycle, I'm worried it may be due for an update soon. Any news/rumors on this?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI recently received an iMac as a "gift"... turns out it has some problems. I am unable to reinstall the default OS (Mountain Lion) because I have yet to be able to partition the HDD correctly. The error I keep getting is: Partition failed with the error: Wiping volume data to prevent future accidental probing failed. At this point, the default Macintosh HD isn't showing, so it must of been erased/deleted.

I am looking to upgrade the RAM in my iMac. The Model is iMac (Late-2006) 2.33 GHz Core 2 Duo/2 GB RAM/Radeon x1600 256 MB/20" Widescreen. I am looking to go from 2 GB of ram to 4 GB, first off, before I would buy the ram, will this computer support it? And if it does will any of these RAM's work? [URL]. I'm not gonna spend a whole lot of money, probably from $60-80 no more than that...so long as I am guaranteed the RAM will work when I install it. Because lets face it, my system is out dating fast and I'm not buying a new comp for a long time.

iMac intel core duo...
My computer had 1GB of RAM, so I just bought a 2GB RAM card. When I installed both cards together i can hear the hard drive start up and then nothing, no boot up, just a black screen and the "sleep" light is just solid. I know both cards are fine because I tested each by themselves and they both started up and worked well, its only when they are both in at the same time does it do this. also both slots work because i tested both of them! I tried to do the PRAM reset and it doesnt work, and I tried to do it with one card in and then reset and then shutdown and install the 2nd card and still nothing. Please give me some advice, i am soooo frustrated!!
I have an iMac G4 700 MHz with 512 MB ram running Jaguar. It actually runs very smoothly. I was wondering if 10.3 would slow it down, or maybe even 10.4?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI had a first generation intel imac 2.0 core duo (not core 2 duo) since 2006. Well now I am in the market for a new imac but I'm trying to figure out whether I should go with the C2D or i5/i7.
I use my imac for audio recording and it has served me well. Although its age is showing which is causing me to find new creative ways to stretch its CPU power, I wonder if a 3.06 GHz is a good enough boost (from my current 2.0 Ghz).
I am obviously not using the correct search terms to find this info, but I want to upgrade my iMacs RAM. The system I have is a refurb 21.5 iMac with 3.06 GHz dual core processor. I want to go from the current 4Gig to 8Gig. Everytime I check the different sites for their online memory guides, I see the 3.06 Intel in the 24" but not in the 21.5. Are they the same? I just want to order the right memory the first time.

I recently reset my imac 2 GHz Intel Core Duo to factory settings to completely erase the hard drive and start over. In doing so, I also deleted the OS 10.6.8 operating system that I had upgraded to. I had purchased the upgrade from the app store and it was easy to install at the time. Now, I am trying to access the app store to find that previously purchased app and re-install it BUT I cannot access the app store with my current browser and I can't upgrade my current browsers with my current operating system (10.4.11)...

My family bought a mid-2010 iMac 21.5". Being our 1st Mac, we're still learning it. My son has "toyed" with Garage band a few times. My wife wants to learn iPhoto but hasn't found the spare time. But will soon - once our disabled kid goes back to school. Have't tried iMove yet. Don't think we will...ith above in mind, is the upgrade to iLife 11 (for upgrades to iMovie, iPhoto and Garageband) worth it? Is the updates in iPhoto and Garageband with the $50 cost? Or, is using current version (that came with my iMac) "good enough" for our usage?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI very recently purchased a refurb late 2009 27 inch i7 iMac. It is more computer than I currently need. I do have one concern that SSD is supposedly much faster than a conventional hard drive and although a solid state drive is now pretty pricey, they will come down in price and I suspect become more mainstream over the next couple of years.
Does it make any sense to consider swapping my computer for a late 2010 i7 refurb (+ $200) so that I have an upgrade path to SSD in the future?
i recently bought a used imac g5 1.8ghz version 10.3.5.
is there any way i can change the processor to an intel processor as i cant seem to upgrade my os (and a lot of other programs) running on the current version.
i just upgraded my ram from 2Gb to 4Gb and everything seems fine but when i went to use spaces nothing happened, i opened spaces in the dock and it took me to system preferences and the setting for expose and spaces has gone
I'd like to buy the new iMac i7 soon, but i can wait if the next upgrade of imac it will be substantial - videocard, blueray - and not only a speed bump of the processor?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am running an Intel G5, 10.5 iMac and am trying to upgrade to Snow Leopard. My problem is that my iMac's screen is completely disfigured from an unfortunate accident and since then I have set my display to mirror onto an external monitor. However, when I restart my Mac to install Snow Leopard via a partitioned hard drive, my external monitor seems to have defaulted into functioning as a dual monitor, not as a mirrored display.
As a result I can't see what's happening during the installation process. What I need is a way for my Mac to use my external monitor as the primary display during the installation process, but I'm at a complete loss as to how to achieve this. I can see and move my mouse around if I drag it way off to the right, but I've tried blind-clicking and dragging from the opposite screen to no avail.

I have a mid-2007 iMac (upgraded to 4GB RAM and 2TB HD). I have a Freecom Quattro Dock which allows me to hot swap hard disks, and it's connected to my iMac via Firewire 800. I use it to backup my internal HD. I backed up my iMac HD and then proceeded to upgrade from 10.7.3 to 10.7.4 which appeared successful, but now my iMac cannot see the disk connected to the dock via the Firewire 800 port. The dock has USB 2 and Firewire 400 connections, and it works fine via Firewire 400.
