IMac PPC :: Removing All Prior Info From It?

Apr 8, 2012

We purchased a new imac from the Apple Store online which will arrive in a few days. Our G5 iMac has been sold and we would like to prepare it so that all personal information and files are removed before the new owner picks it up. Please assist us in removing anything of personal nature on it. We are leaving the application programs we installed in it.

OS X :: How Do I Edit Stored Personal Info?

Feb 14, 2010

I actually have two questions:

1). When I set up my iMac and Macbook Pro for the first time, it asked me for my name, address, city, zip, phone, etc.... well my address and phone has changed. How do I edit so the updated info displays into forms automatically? And can I turn off the automatic insertion of information when filling forms?

2). My Macbook Pro 2.8 came with leopard obviously. I have an iMac 2.8 that did not come with Leopard and wish to install Leopard. Can I use the OS dvd that came with my Macbook Pro to install Leopard or should I buy the $29 upgrade dvd? And can I do this without erasing all my program application files?

Applications :: Password / Personal Info Manager

Jan 15, 2009

First time poster who just recently made the switch from pc to my new macbook pro and loving it though i'm still learning the ropes so be gentle with me

Back in my windows days i used a choice little program called keePass to handle all my logins/passwords/serial keys etc etc not so much as to automatically fill them in for me but just as a record. Now that i've made the switch i've been having to keep a pretty messy rtf document until a better solution comes along. Any applications come to mind?

MacBook Pro :: Wipe All Personal Info On It But Keep The Applications On It?

Jun 20, 2012

So I am selling my early 2011 MacBook Pro and have been having a lot of trouble getting people to buy it at my asking price... So I was thinking of ways I can get it at the price I wanted and thought to use the software on the computer as a selling point.  Well it worked and I have all of adobe CS5 on it along with Microsoft Office for mac and windows 7 as a partition.  Well I got a buyer who is interested primarily because of the software and I want to sell it but just keep the applications on it.  What can I do to protect myself by getting rid of any personal information?  Do I just go to my key chain and wipe it clean and wipe all my documents?  The licensing for the applications won't be an issue for me so I don't care about that.

IMac :: Delete Info But Being Able To Keep 3rd Party Programs And Music On The Machine

Jun 23, 2010

I just purchased a new Imac and am looking to sell my old 17 white intel Imac. I have all the updated software(snow leopard, Ilife 09). I was going to sell on craigslist to stranger but now looks like a family member will buy. What is the best way to delete my info but being able to keep 3rd party programs and music on the machine. Also if I just choose to do a complete install instead do I use the snow leopard disc or the disc that came with the machine which it had Tiger on it.

OS X :: The Quickest Way To Install Snow Leopard From Tiger?

Jun 5, 2010

I'm trying to install snow leopard over tiger.I managed to get ahold of a .DMG of Snow Leopard build 10A432.I also managed to access the hidden folder "System" by pressingApple+Shift+G and typing "system/installation/packages."I then deleted all the unnecessary printer driver package files and the VISIBLE Optional Installs folder.

I noticed the structure of the library subfolder of the HIDDEN system folder in the snow leopard dmg slightly echoes that in the VISIBLE system folder of Tiger, which can be accessed by searching hard drive name>system>library.

I'm a complete noob, so bare with me as I ask:
Is it possible to simply copy the HIDDEN library subfolder from the snow leopard dmg to the VISIBLE system folder of Tiger (which is at HDD>system>library?

Software :: Delete Info From A Picture?

Apr 2, 2009

how can i delete information from a picture-

so the picture no longer shows up in my Finder search?

i tend to search using the Finder Command-F searchbox

i put in the word "party" and all these unrelated pictures come up.

i assume there's some appendant info attached to the pic --somewhere-- but i can't even seem to successfully delete the "picture keywords" using preview

not sure where the keywords i want to delete are stored, really-- cause in preview, i cant even find the keyword "party"...

i know a simple way would be to search for "party" only using the title search, but sometimes i want the broader search. there must be a way to alter a pic file to make it not show up on searches, no?

i'm macbok pro. 10.4.11 MS Office 2004 11.5.3

OS X :: Transfer All Info From IMac To New HD On Macbook?

Jun 14, 2009

I want to install a new, larger HD in my macbook and then make it my primary computer. Currently, I have most of my info on my aging G5 iMac which is slowly starting to fall apart (i.e. optical drive/keyboard no longer work, making strange noises, etc.). I know that, once I put a new, larger HD in my macbook, I will have to format it and install Leopard. Is there a way to then transfer all of my info from the iMac to the new HD in the macbook after I put Leopard on it? I currently have a Time Machine'd backup external HD hooked up to my iMac.

MacBook Pro :: Install Firmware Update Prior To Or After Clean Installing Os X Lion?

Jul 5, 2012

Just bought a new SSD I plan to swap into my MacBook pro (mid 2010 6.2). I plan on clean installing osx Lion and thought I would try to make the installation go as smoothly as possible by updatingthe firmware, if needed, on both the new drive and the MacBook pro.

-Model: MacBook Pro 6,2 (mid 2010) - 15" i5 2.4ghz

-Current Boot ROM: MBP61.0057.B0C

I'm wondering if I need to wait until os x Lion is installed before I install this update? Perhaps it will automatically via "software update" after Lion is installed. It looks like the fix is pertains to osx Lion functionality, so maybe it would've already been downloaded via software update if Lion was installed as opposed to snow leopard which is what I have currently. The article says " If you are unsure whether your computer needs a particular update, simply download and open the update installer. The installer will alert you if the firmware update is already installed or not needed." Which update installer are they referring to and where can I get it? I thought it'd be better to update the firmware prior to installing the os, but maybe that's just an old habit I picked upnwhile using windows.

Info:
MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.6.8), mid 2010 6,2 15" 2.4 core i5
