IMac :: Serial Port To USB Adapter
Jul 15, 2009I've got an old Palm Vx that, before I recently bought my iMac, was synced to a PC using a cradle w/a cable that connects into a serial port. The iMac obviously has no serial ports, so I looked online and found a USB to Serial adapter cable - brand was Cables to Go. BUT, it doesn't seem to work - I've not yet achieved a recognized connection on the iMac, and the cable documentation talks only about Windows. Anyone have any suggestions for cables specifically designed to work with an iMac?

OS X :: Transfer All Info From IMac To New HD On Macbook?
Jun 14, 2009I want to install a new, larger HD in my macbook and then make it my primary computer. Currently, I have most of my info on my aging G5 iMac which is slowly starting to fall apart (i.e. optical drive/keyboard no longer work, making strange noises, etc.). I know that, once I put a new, larger HD in my macbook, I will have to format it and install Leopard. Is there a way to then transfer all of my info from the iMac to the new HD in the macbook after I put Leopard on it? I currently have a Time Machine'd backup external HD hooked up to my iMac.

Dec 4, 2009my parents have an iMac (not sure of the exact model except its maybe 2 or 3 months old). Anyways, it's kind of in between the living room and the kitchen and is used often (among other things) to play music in those two areas using iTunes.
I was wondering if the Apple Remote Control would work well... the only catch being that the remote is IR and that the position of the computer means that a lot of times, the remote would be facing the side and backs of the computer. I doubt the remote would work but I also heard that the remote's IR is very robust.... is it strong enough to be able to used from these angles (im assuming by bouncing the signal off walls or something?).

IMac PPC :: Flush Hard Drive Of All Info But Keep The OS?
May 21, 2012I've got a very old iMac PowerPC G4 that I've been wanting to get rid of for a while. It's got 384 MB of RAM and a 700Mhz Processor, along with what I believe is a 50Gb Hard Drive (I haven't found a way to check for sure). It's running Mac OS X 10.2.8. So here's my question. Is there a way to totally flush the hard drive (or reformat it) to get rid of any sensitive data, but then be able to install or keep the OS files and get it running again?

Mar 10, 2009So I already placed my order for my new iMAC. I have a MacBook (2006) with iLife 08.
My question is: When I get to transfer my MacBook info into my new iMAC, will i encounter any problems with my iLife files being that I have iLife 08, and the new iMac's come with iLife 09? The Time Machine transfer won't bring the new iMac software back to 08 will it?
Just want to be sure before I set this up.
