OS X :: How Can I Transfer All My Info From Macbook To IMac
Jun 22, 2010
Just picked up a new iMac today. I have my Macbook Pro pretty much all setup with bookmark, emails, ical, contacts, etc...
Is there anyway to import all that to my iMac? or do i have to setup everything manually on the iMac?
I noticed when i first started the iMac is asked something along the lines of transfering data from another mac via firewire BUT i dont have a firewire cable, So not sure if this is what i need?
I want to install a new, larger HD in my macbook and then make it my primary computer. Currently, I have most of my info on my aging G5 iMac which is slowly starting to fall apart (i.e. optical drive/keyboard no longer work, making strange noises, etc.). I know that, once I put a new, larger HD in my macbook, I will have to format it and install Leopard. Is there a way to then transfer all of my info from the iMac to the new HD in the macbook after I put Leopard on it? I currently have a Time Machine'd backup external HD hooked up to my iMac.
So I already placed my order for my new iMAC. I have a MacBook (2006) with iLife 08.
My question is: When I get to transfer my MacBook info into my new iMAC, will i encounter any problems with my iLife files being that I have iLife 08, and the new iMac's come with iLife 09? The Time Machine transfer won't bring the new iMac software back to 08 will it?
I recently purchased a MacBook Pro. I previously owned a MacBook and have a bunch of personal info and preferences on it. I used migration assistant about a month ago. It worked pretty well but some of my apps weren't there or weren't functioning well. My new MBP seems like it is unorganized. I want to erase my HDD (just install OSX again, right?) and start fresh. Is there another way to transfer my info over to my new MBP? Maybe pick and choose EXACTLY what I want transfered... I don't think migration assistant gave me an option to select individual apps.
I want to transfer info from my old pc to my new Mac but I don't want a new user created - I want my docs etc to appear in my own user. I want to do it bit by bit as it takes so long but it wants to create a new user every time.
I got to work yesterday and opened my iBook. Nothing. So I turned it on. Nothing. I checked the battery and it was dead. I let it charge all day it did not charge. I put a new battery in it today. Before I put the battery in it had 3 bars of life left. As soon as I put it in it went down to 1. It still won't power on. Any ideas? All of my info for work is on this computer. I am getting a Macbook soon so is there any way to transfer info from a non working computer?
I am a brand new mac user and New to these forums. I have the new 27 inch I-mac and im trying to get all of my files (pics, documents, music, movies) from my old laptop onto this mac. Should i just burn the info on to discs to transfer it, or is there an easier way?
I update my contacts in my MacBook Pro. Other than manually re-entering the same info into my iMac, is there some way to "copy over" the data from the MacBook to the iMac? I also have a Mac Mini Snow Leopard server, and am not interested in using MobileMe.
would you know any other site where i could check my 27 IMACS information..tried using ppleserialnumberinfo.com but wont let me..just need to find out what week my Imac was built.
We purchased a new imac from the Apple Store online which will arrive in a few days. Our G5 iMac has been sold and we would like to prepare it so that all personal information and files are removed before the new owner picks it up. Please assist us in removing anything of personal nature on it. We are leaving the application programs we installed in it.
I'm looking for one of these because i am trying to use dual monitors with my iMac 21.5", i have seen these on ebay but they all say 'Mini DisplayPort to VGA for Macbook', will it work with my iMac too.
my parents have an iMac (not sure of the exact model except its maybe 2 or 3 months old). Anyways, it's kind of in between the living room and the kitchen and is used often (among other things) to play music in those two areas using iTunes.
I was wondering if the Apple Remote Control would work well... the only catch being that the remote is IR and that the position of the computer means that a lot of times, the remote would be facing the side and backs of the computer. I doubt the remote would work but I also heard that the remote's IR is very robust.... is it strong enough to be able to used from these angles (im assuming by bouncing the signal off walls or something?).
just asking for personal opinions on speed in Logic. I work with both software instruments and audio tracks, up to 40+ tracks per song-will the minimum imac model work for me? I would also like to do work in Reason and Record in the future so.
Looking to get a 27 imac soon, this is my first time on this chat board and it has been asked many times I'm sure!!! Release date for the 2012 imac 27"??
I've got a very old iMac PowerPC G4 that I've been wanting to get rid of for a while. It's got 384 MB of RAM and a 700Mhz Processor, along with what I believe is a 50Gb Hard Drive (I haven't found a way to check for sure). It's running Mac OS X 10.2.8. So here's my question. Is there a way to totally flush the hard drive (or reformat it) to get rid of any sensitive data, but then be able to install or keep the OS files and get it running again?
I backed up my entire old macbook pro laptop through Time Machine to a Western Digital My Passport. Now my laptop has died, and I would like to get all my old information that time machine saved off of the My Passport and onto my new desktop iMac. How do I go about doing this?
I just saw this new thing TDM, and I'm really interested, meaning I can hook up my MacBook to it and all sorts of other stuff. I've been trying to find more info on apple's site and google but there's nothing much mentioned.
Can anyone tell me what kind of cable is required? Will it eventually need like 10 adapter heads?
The small slot under the cd/dcd slot, is that for picture cards? Just noticed it. Is there someplace I can go to read up on general things about this computer, seeing as it came with little info?
just ordered my iMac 27" yesterday with the education discount. however, I got the name wrong and I am afraid that I can't get the iPod touch rebate. The status is put to "prepared for shipment" and i cannot edit the billing info.Do u guys think that the Apple call center can help me change the billing info??i am in Singapore now so the service line will not open until 5hrs later.
Is there a way to hook up a external monitor to the 24" iMac as in the same way you can do with a macbook pro? Reason being is that I want the 24" iMac and I want to do photo editing. I'm getting mixed reviews on it due to the glossy screen. Some say yes and others say no. I have a 21 inch LCD display that I am not using. I was wondering if I can use it when I need to edit photos. I can't afford the macbook pro that I want so my next option is the iMac.
Can someone with a 27 inch iMac with the ATI Radeon 4850 video card running Windows 7 via bootcamp please look under device manager and let me know the driver version and date.
I just purchased a new Imac and am looking to sell my old 17 white intel Imac. I have all the updated software(snow leopard, Ilife 09). I was going to sell on craigslist to stranger but now looks like a family member will buy. What is the best way to delete my info but being able to keep 3rd party programs and music on the machine. Also if I just choose to do a complete install instead do I use the snow leopard disc or the disc that came with the machine which it had Tiger on it.
This is what i have is a 27inch 17 Imac and a 13inch mbp. I would like to make a exact copy of what on my imac and put it on my macbook and take my macbook to work and school. Then come home and then Take what i did on my macbook pro and tranfer downloaded files/applications/documents andto the imac once i get home. I this possible if so how?
When I set up my new mac it offered me the ability to transfer my files from one computer to another. Silly me, I was tired, and chose not to do it at that time.
How do I get back to that screen? And, is it difficult? I have slightly more ability than basic but am not a guru. And I admit to not having done this in years, I normally just copy things on cd rom, but if there is a simple way, this would be great.
I really only want my photographs to transfer. It is easy to do my files.
I could I know download my pics from me.com but I think it would take forever as they are at full resolution.
