Oct 13, 2009Gmail Users: Do you access your gmail only online, or do you use Apple Mail? I've been using Apple mail for my Gmail for a few years now (IMAP). However, I didn't realize how messed up it left my Gmail online (Tabs are a mess, mail messages are getting lost). I'm considering going back to online Gmail, but I also liked how Apple mail played nice with the iphone (since there's no Google GMAIL app for the iphone). So, let me know how you access your Gmail!

1. Should I use the WD Passport as the Time Machine storage device or use the WD Passport software to run back-ups?
2. If I use it for my Time Machine, will I be able to access my files on other machines?
3. Is it possible to have files stored on the WD Passport, such as photos, but not have those files on my Macbook... if I am using the Passport for back-ups?

OS X :: Online Video Is Skipping In My System
May 10, 2009when on youtube etc my white macbook (2.0Ghz Nvidia graphics) video will start to stop/skip/stutter.basically every 5 minutes or so the video will skipa second or half second and continue playing for a minute or so then do it again.I've a solid 7 -8 Mb connection, my macbook temp is floating around 60 when watching video, right now it's 49.

I have some ideas of what it is... it involves mirroring, and holding two copies of data to make sure one doesn't lose data, correct? This is a 4 TB drive... what if I want 4 TBs worth of storage and not two copies of 2 TBs worth of storage? Am I allowed to turn mirroring off and get a straightforward 4 TBs worth of storage? Which would be better - FireWire or USB2.0? I'm also interested in mirroring since I'd store important data on them, and want both drives to have a copy of each. Jan 10, 2010I thought I would share a cool realization. I am now eligible for any iPhone upgrades and most likely will be getting the new one coming out this summer - whatever it may be. I realized today that most likely it will have 64GB of storage - the exact same size as my Macbook Air - I think it is so wild my future phone/pocket computer will have the exact same storage capacity as my main laptop. I could potentially mirror everything on my Mac that is on my iPhone in the future.

Jan 16, 2009I'm currently looking into online backup solutons for my macbook. I intend to keep backups of all my photo's and home movies.
I've looked into and trialed the following
Mozy - The upload to the web feature worked fine, but when i tried to restore a few files it took ages. It took nearly 4 hours to download a 700mb file which had uploaded in less than 10 minutes. My broadband is cable and is 10mb so i am able to achieve a download speed of around 1mb's
JungleDisk - I really really wanted to try this as the pricing was great and the service looked fantastic. However, seeing as i'm in the UK and don't have a credit card i am unable to persue this any further. FOr some reason Amazon S3 don't accept visa debit cards.
Dropbox - I love this service, however I fully understand that this is a syncing service and not a backup service. If i was able to only upload documents and not have them automatically download to my other machine's or work machine then that would be great.

Apr 13, 2010Since today, I cant login with any online messenger out there. I tried the whole lot, about 10 or so. They al can't seem to make a connection with the internet.
Internet seems to be working fine though, since transmission, limewire and firefox are all up and running.
I'm currently using eBuddy for the time being, but I'd really like a solution for my problem. I've deleted some preference files, but this didn't change anything.
P.S.: If you were to spot some faults/incorrections in this post, please notify, I'm Dutch and would love to improve my language skills.

I watch Tekzilla - a podcast at revision3.com and Systm - also by them, and they do a lot of tech shows on HDTV and getting the most out of your HDTV.
Recently one of them (Systm i think) did a show about calibrating your HDTV. They used a THX menu from a Pixar DVD to run through the optimization of their TV for Brightness, Color, Tint, Sharpness, etc.
I"ve been looking for something that I can use from a Website, or a piece of Software that will help me do this with my PC or Mac hooked up through the HDMI on the back of my HDTV.

Mar 16, 2009I have an iMac 17" G5 1.6 intel with 2 Gb of RAM. I can watch videos with no problem unless I try to watch one online such as Youtube or something like a video on Fox news. I have a highspeed cable modem hookup through Cox Cable. I have tried switching between the airPort and direct ethernet hookup but is makes no difference. I don't have this problem with my MacBook Pro.

May 22, 2009So, I am applying for a job at Staples (low I know, but I'm starting grad school in the fall so hopefully it will get better), but to search their jobs and access their online application you need to you either Internet Explorer or Netscape Navigator....
Not even PCs really use those anymore! Since I have a mac, I do not have access to either of these browsers. I feel like I should boycott applying to Staples just for this.
Is there some sort of free app I can download to make Safari or Firefox be compatible like Explorer? Or do I need to go and borrow a friend's computer?
