IMac :: Network Preferences- Cannot Get Main Page For System Preference?
Nov 30, 2010
Im trying to get into my Network preferences, but it is not letting me. All that I am getting is the main page for system preferences and it says loading network. There might already be a thread for this, but I couldn't find it.
Something has happened in my Network preferences and I believe it happened while doing a Spotlight search. When I open the Network preference window, I get an almost instant error dialogue stating "Your Network settings have been changed by another application". As soon as I hit "OK" to dismiss the dialogue box, it comes right back. If I'm really quick, I can get back to the main preferences screen before the warning reappears. I've tried logging out, rebooting, trashing the Library --> Preferences --> apple.networkConfig.plist file (followed by a log-out) and nothing has made a difference.
My Wifi printer is definitely connected to my Network but when I try to connect it to my iMac using the System Preferences it does not show in the available printers window. How to get connected? Just changed to BT Infinity and installed the McAfee Security package could this be the cause?
I'm trying to network a XP Pc to my iMac running Tiger. When I try to open network in system preference, it just opens an empty window. It's like I'm missing an app. I have tried to install it using my OSX install disk several times. This is what I get. my Apple Care expired 6 months ago. My OD plays CDs and DVDs.
when I open my Network in System Preferences, "Network settings have been changed by another application" pops up and every time I click Ok, it pops up again, not letting me be able to access any other option in the Network window. The wireless icon has disappeared from my top bar and the only way I have managed to get online is via my ethernet cable. I have had nothing but problems since I started using my O2 Wireless Broadband dongle and I've noticed that behind the "Network settings have been changed by another application" notification, I can seen the Dongle has appeared as a new network connection option... but was never there before today (have been using the dongle for two months now)
I'm looking for a free vpn. either via network in system prefs or via 3rd party app. i have found a great one called hotspot shield but i went over the monthly limit.
I am running an iMac G5 (just pre Intel) using OS 10.4.11. My internet is via an external modem, ethernet connected. Everything is working fine (as far as I know!) However, for no particular reason I opened "System Preferences" and on clicking on "Network" was confronted with this:- [URL]. On clicking the OK button nothing happens and the only way to get out of System Preferences is to Force Quit it. As I can't get into "networks" in System Preference, I have no idea how the settings have changed. I can't remember when I last installed any new software - it's also ages since I looked at that section of System Preferences.
Been a rough two weeks. I had the issue of my iMac not loading passed the grey screen. No keystrokes were working so I had to bring it in to get repaired. I was told some optic something cable had to be replaced.
Well, initially that didn't work but it just ended up taking forever too boot. 20 or 30 minutes. Now it is loading fine and Windows is also loading fine with bootcamp.
However, I can't get in to turn on my USB wireless adaptor for Sprint. I can open the system preferences and I can also go in to any other option without problems, but if I click "Network" it says Loading Network, then hangs up. I need to force quit and retry. Same results. Anyone know how to repair that? I have tried Disk Utility and it says no problems. Diskwarrior doesn't let me do much since I am booted to that drive.
In the dropdown, I have QLM WiFi (which I have no idea what that is), National Access - Broadband Access (which is my wireless card) and Automatic. Whenever I make a change and hit the "Apply" button, my MBP freezes.
I am running OS X 10.4.11 on a "pod" iMAC. When I open system preferences and click on network, I get a pop up window that states my network preferences have been changed by another application. When I click on the green "OK" box the pop up goes away and comes right back. This is driving me crazy because when it gets into this cycle it's almost impossible to get out of the preferences panel or even check the settings! It's like it gets into a closed loop and won't let you do anything.
I have an iMac G4 with Leopard, and there seems to be a glitch with my System Preferences. I can lock and password protect all of the panes available as I would normally. I have however discovered an issue. These locks seem to unlock themselves after powering back on. I'm not sure if the same happens upon logging back in, as I never log out to start with. Any solutions for this? Better yet, am I the only one who experiences this?
My screen resolution changed during game play. Now that the game is off, I cant change it back. This is what the error message says "Preferences Error - Could not load Displays preference pane."
I bought a new iMac in November 2013 which has a wireless keyboard and mouse, which worked well but won't connect since OS was updated. I've looked in System Preferences and there is no symbol for Blutooth. In System Report / Blutooth it says 'No Information Found'. It's strange because the keyboard and mouse worked fine up to downloading and installing the update (to OSX 10.9.3.) How I can get the Blutooth up and running again?
I am using a mid 2011 iMac 21 inch running Mavericks 10.9.4. Processor is Intel Core i5. Memory is 4GB 1333MHz DDR3. I have had a HP Color LaserJet 2600n connected since I bought the iMac new in November 2011. The printer continued to work after I upgraded from Lion. Thinking that the printer was not working I recently deleted the drivers. It simply turned out that its USB cable had become disconnected. I have since tried to reinstal it through Printer and Scanner Preferences but the iMac does not recognize it. The HP driver download page offers drivers for Lion but not for Mavericks, even though a (different) HP summary page of available drivers claims that that 2600n is supported by Mavericks.
i tried to install an mbox 2 pro, but don't finish the installation, I deleted all folders and I can't delete two icons from my system preferences; when I start my iMac, this failed and system collapses, what can I do?

1. System prints PDF files very slowly, about 50 seconds per page, a text only page. Sometimes will just continue sending data to printer as indicated by flashing green light on printer – does not stop sending and printer does not print. Problem also present when try to print PDF files as sent by others over internet (eg TD Bank statements).
2. Unable to cause double sided printing using IMac – no problem with PC.
Trouble shooting:Took the same one page text only file that was very slow in IMac, transferred to PC using a memory stick – connected printer to PC using same USB cable – page starts printing in about 1 seconds – no problems. No difficulty in printing Word files other than no double sided. Think the problems started with OSX Yosemite upgrade and the companion Safari upgrade. Auto update for software is on and no new updates. Old drivers removed and new one installed Tried Apple internet chat to resolve problem – was unable – the user forum indicates others have had difficulties with printing PDF files.

I'm not talking about the System Preferences app itself, I'm talking about the settings within the app. So for instance, the security settings, and the mouse settings, energy saver, etc.
Where can I find the settings files on my Mac so I can back them up?
is it your main computer? Many people just have them as a media center, but I use mine as my main computer. I wonder who else uses their Mac Mini as their main computer. Also, what monitor or TV do you have it connected too?
When I tried to connect to the Internet via my iPhone on my MacBook, it didn't want to connect.I turned off the Personal Hotspot and rebooted the iPhone. This didn't solve the problem. Then I deleted the iPhone USB network interface from my Network Preference Pane, in the hope that if I would add it again, the problems would have been solved. There's only one new problem now, I can't add the iPhone USB network interface anymore. Is there a way to get my iPhone USB network interface back in the Network Preference Pane so I can use my iPhone as a Personal Hotspot via the USB?

I want to restore and recover OSX & Logic 8 and the software i use with it (Apogee Maestro,UAD Quad & Waves plug-ins) to a new boot disk. I have both a back up of the main OS drive on a drive with Time Machine and a disk copy of the main drive (on another) as i had it before the boot disk crashed. My question is which is the best option to take when restoring the OS etc? As I have heard that there is a couple of bugs and issues when restoring via Time Machine. Is restoring via the disk copy a simple procedure? Or, should i reinstall everything completely from scratch and copy back the receipts and authorizations perhaps? Can you point me towards the best link/method to get my setup back on track? i'm using an apogee symphony pci card
