IMac :: OS X And Applications Installs DVD - Which One With Bootcamp
Mar 16, 2009
So with my iMac there was a little box thing called 'Everything Else'. There are two disks in it:
Mac OS X Install DVD
Applications Install DVD
Is this all I am supposed to get? I thought I was supposed to get iLife disks? What are they both for? And which one is the one I have to use when I install Windows via bootcamp?

I was thinking of buying adobe cs4 suit student edition (web premium) but I have two machines. An iMac and macbook. I can only presume that adobes terms and conditions say that you can only install it on one machine. but that is there to most probably stop people giving it to others to install. I am the only one thats going to ever use it. So my questions is can it be install more than once using the same serial key? if yes do you know how many times can you activate the serial key.

Just an FYI, CS5 will install Growl automatically and start it. Yet the only app that it lists in the Growl config for Adobe is the Adobe Application Manager?

im on a goal to resize my bootcamp partition... im running 10.6.4 with Win7 in Bootcamp... i made a mistake of only making a 80GB partition for windows 7.... now i want to make it bigger, i have read up on a number of methods but most are outdated and users report issues with windows 7 and SL so i'm a lil stuck... this is my idea
I have 120GB unused HDD space atm so could i.. back up my 80GB partition to a DMG with disk utility then delete the old partition making the whole 200GB unallocated space... then use the bootcamp utility to re occupy the space then use disk utilities restore option to restore the image of the 80GB to the new 200GB partition... would this work? if not has anyone got any other methods to use with 10.6.4 SL and Win7?

The automatic Flip4Mac updater will install Microsoft's SIlverLight browser plugin automatically unless the user does a custom install. It was even going to install it on my 10.6.1 machine although the MS web site claims that SilverLight is tested through 10.5. I have contacted the Flip4Mac support people since I believe this is Malware behavior.
Most Mac users will be unaware of what SilverLight is and how it will effect their machine. Nor will most experts think to check for/remove it when troubleshooting. If you wish to make your concerns known, contact their desktop support group, and include "Support Case 1-74223" in the subject line.

If I were to do a clean install of snow leopard, would I later be able to bring my applications over via time machine. That being said, I currently have Adobe CS4 Design Premium and Microsoft office 2008 and itunes. Would I have to unlicense the programs and deauthorize my account before the clean install to make sure that i wouldn't lose the licenses and the authorizations.

I bought a used 80GB for my iBook G4 and loaded my Leopard install disc. I followed the prompts and successfully installed 10.5. I say this because the message with a green check mark was shown at the end of installation. Upon restart, instead of opening the setup/registration process, the system reverted back to the install window. Tried this 3 times with the same result.

I just installed SL, and afterwards went into the Optional Installs. It seems possible to "upgrade" some Mac programs like iCal, Mail and so on. I tried it out on adressbook, but after a successful "upgrade" it told me I had possibly installed older software. What went wrong? Did I install an older version of addressbook, or did I install the same as Snow Leopard did? Or did nothing happen at all?

I read on another forum that some people seem to do a clean install of Mac OS on their machines every year or so, whether they need it or not. I'd never heard of this before and thought that I'd ask here to see if this is common practice?

I have a 15 inch 2010 MBP. When I got it, I migrated all my info from my previous MB. About 4-5 months into using it I started having issues w/ Kernel Panics. I did upgrade the HDD and RAM but the Kernel Panics happened before all of that. I took it to the Apple store and they ran some test on the hardware and software and said they couldn't find anything. Their advice was to just do a clean install. I wanted to avoid doing a clean install on all costs. Anyhow, I said what the who last night and backed up important files and did the clean install,
I have to say that the computer feels much more stable now. I was having a lot of little issues w/ Snow Leopard prior to the clean install. Most of that probably comes w/ me playing around w/ settings a bit too much. Also, I'll admit, I do torrent some software. In my opinion, thats what caused the kernel panics. Only time will tell if I continue to get kernel panics even after a clean install, but I think I'm good to go. So, do you guys prefer doing clean installs or just migrating your data? When Lion comes out, will you clean install or migrate to it?

Right now, I got Parallels with Windows 7 installed on my mac. But I also want to add bootcamp, so I can open Windows when booted. Is it possible to add the current Windows 7 system files and personal files to a bootcamp? If so, what should I do?

Just a quicky.
What sort of differences can i expect other than the obvious between the different OS's? For example will one utilise my iMac's graphics card better for playing games such as MW2 on Windows.
Also the graphics update just released for 10.6.4, will that affect performance on the Windows loaded via BootCamp?

I currently use both a pc as a desktop and a macbook (late 2008). I am very tempted to replace my current desktop (a core2 duo E4500) with either an i5 or i7 imac. The dilemma is that the most important application I use on the PC is Microsoft Excel 2007 (Excel 2008 for the Mac does not cut it as I also need Access). I have seen benchmarks that show how the quad core i5 and i7s show significant performance improvements for Excel.

I worried about getting windows 7, I have been reading the forums, and I keep seeing that if I run windows through boot camp to use the full power (for games) I need one licence of windows. But then if I want to run parallels with windows I will need two licences of windows? Is this true.
I'm also confused if I can do that .... Use boot camp for windows games, but then use parallels for documents and low spec items. Please help, I'm getting my new iMac very soon and I'm very worried.

I tried to do a search with no luck perhaps it's because i didn't use the right keywords.
I m running my iMac with bootcamp Vista, now i created the partition with bc for windows. I am thinking about creating more partitions within the windows drive. Is it as simple as installing partition magic? or are there other features within the mac that can create the partitions for me.

I have an alu iMac, the kind that apple says could not support x64 bootcamp 2.
Having done a bit of research, I followed the instructions on installing the x64 mac pro bootcamp drivers on this computer, and since then have been using Vista x64.
Now, with snow leopard, I'd like to upgrade to bootcamp 3, and once again I am faced with apple's "this machine isn't supported".
Can someone point me in the right direction to get bootcamp 3 x64 drivers installed?
Would I have to dig up the first gen mac pro x64 drivers?
Is apple supporting x64 on the first gen mac pro?
Should I just install every single x64 driver off of the snow leopard installation disc?

I just bought a brand new i5 quad core iMac. I installed Starcraft, and I have to crank the settings down in order to get a decent frame rate, so I thought I'd give Bootcamp a go.
I installed Win7 64bit and then installed the drivers from the DVD which came with it. I started up the Starcraft 2 installer and 8 HOURS LATER, it was still at only 60%.
Steam also seems to have issues, it will halt with a "This program is no longer responding" window, and then randomly spring back to life a few seconds later.
The system also feels really sluggish. I've not been able to benchmark anything on it to see if the system is really slow, or if it's just my perception as all the modern games I have are in my steam account.
For some reason when I shutdown, Windows also seems to hang on "Shutting down". It does not exhibit the same behaviour when I launch the boot camp partition through VMWare.

I just purchased a new iMac and used Boot Camp 2.0 to install Windows XP on a partition. Unfortunately, when I went to use the OS X disk that came with the iMac to install the drivers, the disk was damaged. I am already in the process of getting a replacement disk.
My question is: I have a new Macbook and the OS X disk that came with it. Can I use this OS X disk to install Boot Camp 2.0 on my iMac?

Do you think the new magic mouse will have any functionality on a Windows PC? I could see it bothersomw if I have to change the mouse when I boot into windows using bootcamp. I would think the basics should work under windows but the requirements say OS X.

Got myself a 27" iMac i7 which was delivered today.
Been playing with it all day in OSX and initially installed Win7 but I the display driver keep crashing and I was getting artifacts on screen then the message saying that it had recovered successfully.
Having read that Win7 was not fully supported I assumed that this was the problem so installed Vista, but got the same problem.
Screen stalled, then goes blank for a second and then the error message in the task bar.
I have just ran all the MS updates and also installed the latest GFX driver from ATI to see if that makes a difference.
I have also just ran 3dmark06 and that ran OK but I was expecting the fans to kick in at some point

I decided I was going to install XP on a bootcamp partition tonight and everything went fine until I installed the Bootcamp 3 software. After installing the Bootcamp drivers the machine rebooted and I ended up with a black screen in Windows. I did hear the XP welcome music so I figured it was a display driver issue. I rebooted into safe mode and deleted the ATI 4850 driver and restarted. After removing the bootcamp driver everything was normal again other than the fact that I only had the default Windows drivers running.
What am I doing wrong? I installed XP off of an XP disc with SP2 already on it and ran the Bootcamp install off the Snow Leopard disc. Finally, not sure if this matters, I am running one of the new i7 iMacs.

Have a late 09 i7 27" iMac with XP SP3 installed on Bootcamp partition. Even after turning down brightness in BootCamp control panel all the way down, I still feel like I'm staring at the sun. Screen is still way too bright. No such issue in OS X. Is there any Windows app (similar to Shades) that allows further brightness reduction? With brightness as is, Bootcamp is pretty much unusable to me.

Last night I installed Bootcamp on my i5 17" IMac and everything works except the screensaver and power management stuff won't kick on. For reference, here is what I did so far...
Setup Bootcamp Partition
installed windows 7 64 to that partition
used external display because of the video issues to finish the install
let windows update download/install all drivers/patches (which fixed the display issue)
installed bootcamp drivers from osx dvd
uninstalled bluetooth drivers so my apple wireless keyboard would work again.
I know that Bootcamp isn't supported for Windows 7 yet but does anyone know what is causing this or perhaps a workaround until official windows 7 drivers are available?
