Software :: Flip4Mac WMV 2.3.0.14 Updater Installs SliverLight
Oct 29, 2009
The automatic Flip4Mac updater will install Microsoft's SIlverLight browser plugin automatically unless the user does a custom install. It was even going to install it on my 10.6.1 machine although the MS web site claims that SilverLight is tested through 10.5. I have contacted the Flip4Mac support people since I believe this is Malware behavior.
Most Mac users will be unaware of what SilverLight is and how it will effect their machine. Nor will most experts think to check for/remove it when troubleshooting. If you wish to make your concerns known, contact their desktop support group, and include "Support Case 1-74223" in the subject line.

So with my iMac there was a little box thing called 'Everything Else'. There are two disks in it:
Mac OS X Install DVD
Applications Install DVD
Is this all I am supposed to get? I thought I was supposed to get iLife disks? What are they both for? And which one is the one I have to use when I install Windows via bootcamp?

I was thinking of buying adobe cs4 suit student edition (web premium) but I have two machines. An iMac and macbook. I can only presume that adobes terms and conditions say that you can only install it on one machine. but that is there to most probably stop people giving it to others to install. I am the only one thats going to ever use it. So my questions is can it be install more than once using the same serial key? if yes do you know how many times can you activate the serial key.

If I were to do a clean install of snow leopard, would I later be able to bring my applications over via time machine. That being said, I currently have Adobe CS4 Design Premium and Microsoft office 2008 and itunes. Would I have to unlicense the programs and deauthorize my account before the clean install to make sure that i wouldn't lose the licenses and the authorizations.

Just an FYI, CS5 will install Growl automatically and start it. Yet the only app that it lists in the Growl config for Adobe is the Adobe Application Manager?

I bought a used 80GB for my iBook G4 and loaded my Leopard install disc. I followed the prompts and successfully installed 10.5. I say this because the message with a green check mark was shown at the end of installation. Upon restart, instead of opening the setup/registration process, the system reverted back to the install window. Tried this 3 times with the same result.

is there any way of playing a DRM WMV file on a mac? I have Flip4Mac installed so can play WMV through QuickTime player. I also have virtual PC, which i can play the DRM WMV file with, but it plays really slowly in that and is virtually unwatchable.

I haven't read so much the blurb for Snow Leopard but will QuickTime X do without the need for Perian and Flip4Mac plug-ins? I understand QuickTime X has some increased compatibility, though I'm guess not to the extent that you can do without those plug-ins...?

I just installed SL, and afterwards went into the Optional Installs. It seems possible to "upgrade" some Mac programs like iCal, Mail and so on. I tried it out on adressbook, but after a successful "upgrade" it told me I had possibly installed older software. What went wrong? Did I install an older version of addressbook, or did I install the same as Snow Leopard did? Or did nothing happen at all?

I read on another forum that some people seem to do a clean install of Mac OS on their machines every year or so, whether they need it or not. I'd never heard of this before and thought that I'd ask here to see if this is common practice?

I just switched from PC to Mac. I have thousands of WMA files on my hard drive, and I realized I cannot simply drag and drop them into iTunes. So I got online and downloaded Flip4Mac. At first this only allowed me to play the WMA files through Quicktime. So I read a bit more and it said I needed Flip4Mac Pro to use Quicktime components to convert WMA and other windows files to MP3 and other Mac compatible formats. So I bought Flip4Mac Pro. My iMac came preloaded with Quicktime X and when I open a WMA file in Quicktime and click export, the only option it gives me is "Audio Only" and it does not successfully export. Does anyone know how to use Flip4Mac Pro to convert WMA files to MP3? Â
I have already purchased Flip4Mac Pro and I simply would like to know how to use what I already have.

iMac, Mac OS X (10.7.3)

I have a late 2007 intel imac with 10.6.8. I notcied for the last two days that I have gotten this message after checking Software Update [code] I have had problems with occasional freezing/crashes where I have to do a hard shutdown, especially after watching videos via safari (e.g. Youtube) and/or the imac coming out of sleep. This hasn't been too problematic laterly compared to the past (maybe once or twice a week now v. once or twice a day). I do not know if this freeze/crash issue has anything to do with this console message.

imac, Mac OS X (10.5.2)

I have a 15 inch 2010 MBP. When I got it, I migrated all my info from my previous MB. About 4-5 months into using it I started having issues w/ Kernel Panics. I did upgrade the HDD and RAM but the Kernel Panics happened before all of that. I took it to the Apple store and they ran some test on the hardware and software and said they couldn't find anything. Their advice was to just do a clean install. I wanted to avoid doing a clean install on all costs. Anyhow, I said what the who last night and backed up important files and did the clean install,
I have to say that the computer feels much more stable now. I was having a lot of little issues w/ Snow Leopard prior to the clean install. Most of that probably comes w/ me playing around w/ settings a bit too much. Also, I'll admit, I do torrent some software. In my opinion, thats what caused the kernel panics. Only time will tell if I continue to get kernel panics even after a clean install, but I think I'm good to go. So, do you guys prefer doing clean installs or just migrating your data? When Lion comes out, will you clean install or migrate to it?

Anyone know how to disable Flip4Mac and QuickTime so that I can use Windows Media Player 9? I need to use WMP9 on a couple of websites that do not work with Flip4Mac/QuickTime. Previously I had just opened the WMV Upgrade that is in the Flip4Mac folder and unchecked Use Flip4Mac WMV Browser plug-in and then relaunched Safari. But now even when I uncheck Flip4Mac, it, and QuickTime continue to open.

I have browsed the forum for an answer to my problem, but none of the "fixes" worked for me. Each time I try to check for updates the blue bar progresses almost to the end then suddenly quits. I installed Google Picasa far Mac on a 10.5.6 leopard machine. Today, a window told me that I should update my version of Picasa, but Picasa was not running. The updater was well hidden. In fact, there is no google updater in my StartupItems. Furthermore, there is no goo* process among the running processes. The only upd* process is "update", whose function I ignore. Does anyone know which one is the Google Updater process? At Google they forgot to add "sudo" and User Authentication in the updater. The updater fails also when launched with Administrator privileges. That's funny, the mighty Google offering us such pearls of Mac programming.

I see that this has been asked a few times (albeit a long time ago), but there's never really been a definitive answer.I have just switched to Mac and I used to use a program called iTLU on the PC which would automatically update my iTunes library (remove tracks that have been deleted from the hard drive and add tracks that are new).
