There have been a couple of discussions about third party retailer returns on bto iMacs and I was wanting to clear it up. I would like to get an i7 at macmall and use the $150 discount. I believe I still have to pay tax in il though. Anyways, if I get it and tere are a couple dead pixels next to each other in the center, I just have to send it into apple and have them repair it under the one year warranty right? The bad part about macmall is that I can't just exchange it out for a new one
I'm curious what your experience has been with getting a new replacement either from Apple directly or the reseller. I bought mine from MacMall a few weeks ago and it seems to have a bit of the yellowing as well as 20 or so dead/stuck pixels in the isight camera and now I'm thinking about trying for a replacement. I spoke to an Apple rep earlier today and he is working to see what he can do for me but apparently Apple sales weren't wanting to allow me to just swap for a new one through the normal channel everyone who buys their iMac directly from the Apple Store gets. The rep is going to call me back on Monday and let me know what he can do for me. MacMall will allow me to return and rebuy supposedly
During the boot-sequence the screen of my Imac 27" flashes green (once), then returns to normal. This does not happen when I boot my Windows (Bootcamp) partition, so I assume this is some kind of OSX driver error. This started to happen only after I installed the latest patch (10.9.3). How to get rid of it ?
I want to buy the new MBP Retina from Mac Mall in the US because of the exchange rate I save a lot now. Will the warranty be still valid if I take it to an Apple Store here in Italy when I'm still in warranty?
When I awaken my G5 in the morning (when its chilly) it goes back to sleep almost immediately. This may repeat twice before it finally stays on. I initially thought it was my HD, a new purchase at the time. However, I have switched to another internal drive and have been experiencing identical results. I've run TechTool Pro, Onyx, Applejack, and Disk Utility, thinking it was a HD issue, but having switched drives, I'm thinking it must be a hardware issue of some sort.

In Settings->Keyboard->Text it is possible to add/delete replacement texts; e.g. 'omw' comes as a default to replace 'on my way'. A Swedish language default is replacing 'mvh' with 'med vänlig hälsning'. I prefer not using these and have thus deleted both of them. Repeatedly deleted them that is since these defaults keep returning a day or so after I have deleted them.
I'm using Mac OS X Yosemite 10.10.1 on a MacBook Air 13'' that was purchased in Oct 2014. Â
I've been waiting for these Arrandale 15" MBPs since December '09, and in my excitement and haste I didn't assess all the options when I ordered my new laptop.I ordered the base 15" model with no changes to it, but I really need the high-res screen. 3 questions for you lovely people:1) Once I get the laptop, I could return it and change it for a one with the hi-res screen. How long does it usually take to return a Macbook Pro and get a new one back again?
2) If, once I recieve the laptop, I drove to my nearest Apple Store (about 60 miles away- I'm in UK), could I simply hand them my unopened laptop and ask for an exchange for one with a hi-res screen?
3) I noticed a hi-res, anti-glare option. Does anybody know if the anti-glare option still has that ugly grey surroun
You would normally have to fill out a returns form when you send things back to stores.Just wondering why there was nothing for me to fill out as they won't know what it is when they receive it as they won't know my return i.d.does anyone know if there was supposed to be one inside? or if I need to request one from somwhere? or do i not need to do anything but send it?
Screen will go completely black for a second then back to normal display.Makes no difference what application I'm using. Within last 10 minutes went black for 4 times. Does not power down, just screen goes black.Contacted support via phone, they had me shut down, unplug power cord, then plug in and start. Appeared ok while I was on phone with support.Didn't use imac for 1 1/2 hours, now I notice it going black again.
Every time I search for a song in iTunes, then close the search by hitting the "x" in the search bar, iTunes returns me to the top of my iTunes library (the A's), instead of staying on the song I've searched for and selected. It's incredibly annoying, and has been happening to my iTunes for a few years (but didn't in early versions of the software). Does anyone else have this problem? Is it a bug, or just a bad design? If so, is there a way to stop it?
When I run the mdls command on a ringtone file to fetch its duration, the output is always null. For e.g running
mdls -raw -name kMDItemDurationSeconds SomeTone.m4r  on the terminal returns (null) as the output. When I check the info for the ringtone in iTunes, I see that it's 14s long. Same issue when I try to fetch the total bitrate for the ringtone using mdls. It also returns null. Why does mdls fail ?
In the past week my volume suddenly gets 50% to 70% louder and after a few moments it returns to the original sound. This happens two or three time in an hour.
I am doing tech support for a family member, He is running OS X Mavericks 10.9.4 on a late-2009 27" iMac, and Time Machine is/was set up on a 2TB LaCie d2 Quadra V3 connected through FW800. He had noticed that Time Machine had not run in a while, so I opened it, and his former Time Machine drive could not be found. It wasn't showing up on the Desktop or in Finder, so I opened Disk Utility to see that it is unmounted. When I tried to mount it, it did nothing. I verified the LaCie drive and it returned no errors. I verified the disk, and it failed and returned "Underlying error: 8: POSIX reports: Exec format error". I tried to repair the disk and it returned the same thing. I am not sure if it has been working since he upgraded to Mavericks. It seems to me that the drive is dead, pre-reformat, but let me know if not. (I am not sure why it would have failed. He doesn't seem to turn off his computer, and I doubt he has unplugged the drive at any point. It may have been running for several years straight, though.) If it's dead, is the data likely recoverable?
Hi! Im new to the forums but i really need help with something and i was hoping someone here could help me out. So I just installed Tech Tool Deluxe onto my macbook and then shut it down later. I went back to use it again and when i turned it on a login screen appeared asking me to put in my password. I did that and the screen turned blue (looking like it was loading) and then went back to the login screen. Every time i put in my password it just takes me back to the login screen. I have had my mac for a while and i dont want my hardrive to get wiped out so what do i do? Thank you for looking
I sent an email to Steve Jobs about my yellow tint 21.5 iMac issues (three exchanges, all affected, resulting in a refund). I got a call from Dena at Executive Care within 24 hours.
She said they are aware of the problem and do not know how widespread it is. According to Dena, the issue is not resolved and that ordering a new iMac will not result in a fixed display.
She said the engineers are working on it now and they are not sure if it's hardware (most likely) or software related. Further Apple stores cannot do repairs because they haven't determined what the issue is.
I've read some reviews of eSata external drives and it seems to be better than FW800. What are the odds Apple is gonna include an eSata port on its next-gen iMac?
About 5 months ago I had my Mid 2006 iMac replaced with an Early 2009 iMac and on the whole I am very pleased with it except for one thing ... the glossy display. As our youngest has now commandeered my office I am now resigned to using the dining room which is fine except the only area for all my equipment is the wall opposite the window. The reflection during the afternoon and early evening when the sun comes through is driving me crazy. We have had blinds fitted which now help but still cast a lot of reflections and glare on the screen making reading difficult. I didn?t have this problem with the old matte iMac.An option would be to use a matte screen as a second monitor or even better a 30" Apple Cinema Display thus I can move the iMac out of the way.
I have the Imac Alu 24", 2.4 ghz Core 2 Duo with a ATI Radeon HD2600 graphic card with 256MB VRAM. I will be buying a 2 year old apple Cinema display 30" tomorrow from a colleague and would like to know that my IMAC can easily handle supporting this display at its normal resolution and have a crisp and correct image on the larger screen. I know that this older version of the Alu Imac has the older video out display port, but I presume I can convert it to attach to this 2 year old screen as well. Is there something I'll need to do to get this to work?
2010 is a big year for me with my iphone 3g contract to expire in july, which means i can finally grab a slice of the fourth Gen Iphone, and my first bite into a Imac computer. Being a long time PC vista user 3 unfortunate years I'am tired of the windows world, yesterday I went to JB HI FI and i got quoted for $3,450.00 AU for an IMAC 27 Inch model which is orginally $3,626.00 AU. with i7 2.8ghz processor 8gigs of ram extended warranty and ms office
I'am holding off till tuesday to wait for WWDC to see if there is any news on Imacs. If there isn't I assume that it will be a quiet update, should i wait for the quiet update or buy one after the conference blows over.
I own a 17" iMac Core 2 Duo. It has been crashing more and more lately. Now when I turn it on, it sits at the apple logo. The spinner does not appear. I tried new sticks of ram, and same thing. I can boot off a windows or Linux cd with the c key, but they freeze halfway through bootup. I ran a hard disk check also.
I shut the computer off like i normally do. It was fine and well. Went to turn it on, and saw a bar. Whats it for? Its been moving, but very slowly. It never does this. Is there malware or something causing it? I had a movie on the DVD slot, it that caused it. It wasn't spinning though.
installed Win 7 with no issues except it doesn't recognize the Apple keyboard an wireless mouse. Rebooted in Win 7 and put in OS X disk and reran bootcamp as it said. Still doesn't see them and in Windows, the screen is on full bright and I don't see how to decrease it since the keyboard issue.
I just purchased my first mac (a macbook 2.4) and I'd love to buy a mini, but I can't justify it until it gets an upgrade. Here's to hoping that the sources in this article are wrong, since 2010 is little too far away for an upgrade for my taste....
If you have to buy your new iMac from one of the retail stores rather than online you will no doubt have had worries about the keyboard.
With the small keyboard bundled many stores will not allow the option of a larger keyboards. Some people have posted here however that some stores where swapping out keyboards for them, others even managed to get a free full size keyboard sent to them after calling apple and complaining.
I'm hoping people will post their keyboard experiences here along with the apple store they visited to help build up a reference list for others in this situation.
I'll start by saying the apple store in Liverpool ONE , will not, under any circumstances swap out keyboards.
