Feb 11, 2010I have Firefox installed and everything seems to be updated and enabled, but for some reason Java is not working. It works in Safari.

View 1 RepliesI have 10.5.8 and I think I read that in the latest FF update, Java is disabled and with my version of software, no way to make it work anymore. Is this true? I have an onlime game that I think requires Java to play and I cannot access the game today and am wondering if that is the reason. I could play yesterday, but not today, it hangs when loading. It could be the game site itself, but I got to thinking about Java and did some research and saw that Java is only supported now in 10.6 and higher. If it is a java issue, is there any way to get it back and working with my system? I tried accessing it using Safari, same issue, hangs in same place.

I run Firefox (and Safari and Chrome) on a MacBook Pro with Snow Leopard. If I go to [URL] it tells me that my version of Java should be updated, but the Software Update... under my apple menu does not update it. The reason for this update is that security problems were found. Has Apple made the updated Java plugin for Firefox available? If so, how do I install it?

Recently I have installed Sun Microsystems Java Runtime Environment (JRE) for my Mac (Leopard). Though it shows successful installation, my java applet simply will not work under Firefox and Safari. I have checked out the browsers' preference setup and the java boxes are checked. I just cannot figure out why the java applet will not work; I've heard Leopard has this downfall. Anyway I can fix this problem?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI had trouble installing the Safari 4 beta a while back but ever since it had been working I have not been able to view java apps, I get the error: "java is not installed or unavailable".
View 1 Replies View RelatedSo I noticed they're is an update for java today and want the update. It ask me for my password and I type it in and it says invalid. User name is there already when it prompts me. I restarted my mini to see if the keyboard might have been acting weird, but still not working.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI just started getting deadlocks in code that's been running for some time on my mac pro 2nd edition (8 cores, 2 gb ram). This code was using java 6 from Apple previously - with the upgrade to 1.6.0_13, it's now hanging in the middle of its run. This code has been running for quite some time. Before OSX supported java 6 it also ran on java 5 no problem. it just started hanging after this update. Can the java update be uninstalled?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI am on a MacBook Pro and am encountering problems after the last Java upgrade on Lion. My dock will not appear when I rollover - so I have set it to show all of the time. I clicked on my widget icon to use the calculator, and nothing loaded. I was stuck on the screen and had to hard restart.Â

I just got a new mbp. (old one's logic board and cpu died)
With my old mbp(leopard) everything flash related was working perfectly fine.
The new mbp, Flash works with every other browsers such as Safari and Opera.
However, when using Firefox to watch videos or browse websites, Flash thinks my left mouse click is my right click. So whenever I try to pause a video or play it, flash opens up "About Flash Player 10"
What a joke right? Any word on Firefox 3.6?
View 5 Replies View RelatedWhat has been released to install as a security update? I seem to be clicking on one web link which takes me to another and nothing to actually install. Typical Apple. Really wish I hadn't bought this MacCrap Air - I do miss my PC.

I am running OS 10.5.8 on an iMac. There is no security update issued for this operating system - it only covers 10.6. Is my comuter vulnerable? Do I need to do anything?

I was running java 1.6.0_33 on my Mac Lion and later I installed java 1.7.0_05. Now in my Java preferences I see both the Java SE available. Now my problem is when I enable Java 7(& select Enable applet plug-in and Web start applications), my JNLP file doesn't run with java web start, from Safari as well as Firefox. When I try running the jnlp using Open With option and selecting Java Web Start present in /System/Library/CoreServices, nothing happens.Â
When I try running the JNLP file from Terminal suing command /System/Library/CoreServices/Java Web Start.app/Contents/MacOS/Java Web Start xyz.jnlp I get following errorÂ
Java Web Start splash screen process exiting... Can not find message file : No such file or directory.Â

Anyone know why the spell checker in Firefox doesn't work?
View 7 Replies View RelatedI made a Java applet with Xcode 3.2Â and i load it to firefox or Safari(Yeah i've updated my java)and for exampleÂ
i made a HELLO WORLD simple applet to be in black color letters, then compiled and yeah it worked but then i redid it for the letters to be red.. and they kept being black..no matter how many times i recompiled the applet.Â
And yeah the HTML is pointing to the correct class file. Also, If if i add a Thread and implement runnable.. then nothing shows up in the canvas.Â
And also, what ever happened with the appletviewer application? We don't have that anymore.
now the only way to run applets is through a web browser. Â Is java applet developement in 10.6 really over?

Since the flurry of 2012 updates, Java is completely broken on my Mac Pro. Java dependent apps don't start and Apple Support says to enable the apps in Java Preferences. Nice idea, but Java Preferences WILL NOT LAUNCH either. There were plenty of tools to address flashback and they DID NOT break normal day to day operations.I downloaded the package from support to try a re-installation, but it says "A newer version of Java is already installed" and offers me the option to Close. No reinstall, nothing. Apple support is at it's usual level of service on this issue, completely INVISIBLE.Â

Aa above, Firefox has stopped loading pages. Any pages.
All I get is a white box with 'Search Bookmarks & History' in the search box. (see pic)
I deleted everything FF related from my drive, as well as the app & started from scratch. Downloaded a fresh version from their website, installed, and still nothing. Tried the obvious & rebooted - nothing.
I switched from PC to iMac last week . I am very excited by the performance of Mac OSX and display of the new 21.5" iMac. The only problem I face is that quicktime movies are not played in safari/firefox. Safari waits indefinitely for loading the quicktime movie , firefox shows a big 'Q ?'. Don't know what that means.
This frustrating because I can't view any of the tutorial movies in the apple website. It is ironic that apple's own format is not playing on the new iMac.
The OS is Mac OSX 10.6.2 . Flash is playing well in the same machine. I am new to mac .
I've been having this problem in 3.5 and 3.6...any time I mouse over text or an image that has a tooltip (the little yellow text box), I just get a blank yellow box. Take xkcd, for example. The main comic (image) always pops up a text box. But all I see is a small blank box, like it's displaying a space or something.
View 2 Replies View RelatedLast few days my flash no longer works.
YouTube videos play (can hear sound) but just a black box, unless I full screen I can see it. All other flash (e.g. Dailymotion, Vimeo) don't play at all.
Works fine on Safari, but not on Firefox and Chrome.
I have uninstalled Flash, no luck.
Is this something to do with the hardware acceleration?
I have a silver unibody MacBook.
EDIT: I'm on 10.6.3 Snow Leopard
I have a intel based dual core 2.8 iMac. I was trying to find out if I could install the java 6.0 or some people call it java 1.6?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI think what I'm talking about are javascript links...when you go to, for example, [URL] I'm talking about the links in the box on the right labeled "Most Watched Video." None of the links IN THAT BOX work for me. By "work" of course I mean go anywhere or do anything. It's as if I'm clicking in an area of a page without links.
This happens for me in other sites with similar links. What gives?!
I've checked Firefox and am running the latest version of javascript. I'm also running the latest version of Firefox 3.6.8. I'm on a Mac OSX 10.4.11 - old system software, I realize, but I simply haven't been able to afford moving beyond this (plus my Mac is a Macbook, 2GB RAM, 80GB HD - old unit).
hopefully this is the right place to ask this. my audio streaming doesnt work with firefox 3 but it works with safari on my macbook pro running 10.4.11. firefox 3 will stream video but not audio and it still downloads everything correctly. it was working perfect for a while and then all of the sudden boom no audio streaming. let me give you all a link to a zshare audio file so you can get an idea whats going on

this song will not stream for me. anyone know how i can get firefox to stream?
I visit a website which is internet radio site [URL] When I visit in IE on my work PC the music stream plays automatically.
When I try from my MacBook Pro (both Firefox and Safari it attempts to launch Quicktime (which just hangs)Â
How do I get the audio to play from within the website?

I can't access Gmail on my Macbook or iMac. They both are connected wirelessly and I have tried Firefox and Safari. Right now it's only Gmail that I can't access but sometimes it's the whole Google domain. I've got the correct DNS settings for my ISP as well as running Safari in 64-bit mode. My Windows PC (on the same router as the Macs) connects to the Google domain fine.

I am brand new to Mac (I got a G4 laptop in trade to replace a dead windows desktop).I am trying to install Limewire and it tells me that I cannot: "could not launch application because it requires a version of Java that is not installed". It goes on to acknowledge that it can see everything up to 1.5...but that I need 1.6.
So, I go to Software Update and make sure that I have 1.6. It tells me that there are no new updates, that my computer is up to date.I think I recall being told that I am running Leopard on this laptop. If java 1.6 is available, and I do not have it, and my computer tells me that there are no new updates that my computer needs and will not automatically grab java 1.6, yet I need it to install anapplication....what are my options?
how can i force a program to use java 6 instead of java 7?im trying to use tekkit (minecraft mod) and i need java 7 for the sever but java 6 for the lancher?how i could force the lancher into using java 6?
