Apr 14, 2012My 3yr old was playing a game and when she was done it appears that she was also playing with my Mactop. My spellcheck is not working right, it underlines the word but when I right click nothing happens. The folders on my desktop are all shrunk and I cannot find a way to make them bigger. Most of my Apps are gone from the doc, and when I put them back they are not there when I turn the computer back on. What did she do? Is there a way to 'lock' the computer when she is playinga game on it?

Mar 2, 2009I have an iMac, my wife and daughter have macbooks. All work OK except that my daughter is unable to have any application do spell checking.
How is spell checking set up? What should I tell my daughter to do to set it up, she is away at Uni so I have to be precise.

I would like to know how to unghost the Spell Checker "learn" button, if that is possible. There does not appear to be an option in the preferences.

Feb 11, 2009On my Macbook running Leopard, I mostly write in French. When the OS is set to French language, the built-in dictionary spell checker is also obviously set to French. But I prefer running the OS itself in English. Is there a way to have the English OS, but the spell checker in French ?

Dec 31, 2009For some reason many of my typing includes double letters not wanted, like a double "i" (ii) as in "askiing". My spell checker does not pickk up on this all the time. Have I told the Mac to ignore double i's or something? I have it set to red-underline mis-spelled words as I type. It has underlined both 'askiing' and 'pickk' words above, but in emails it does not.

Feb 25, 2010I have Snow Leopard, I went to the Dictionary application and changed the preference to "British English (IPA)" but it still checks things like colour as misspelled. is there something I am missing? I went to System Preferences>International and under the Text tap changed spelling to "British English" but still it flags colour as wrong... am I missing something?

OS X :: Spell Check While Typing Not Working In Certain Programs?
Oct 28, 2008For the past few weeks (maybe months) I've been experiencing a problem with my spell check while typing feature. Up until this evening I could even have it checked off in Adium, but after I downloaded the MacOSXUpdCombo10.5.5 file (something someone suggested in another thread) the spelling options are all greyed out completely. I have restarted Adium a few times to try to fix it to no avail.
The checker works fine in Safari, but when I use Adium it doesn't work. I found a thread on another site that suggested moving one of the Dictionary files to the desktop, and also holding option, command, p and r down at the same time. That second tip seemed to work a while ago, but since then I can't get it to work again.
I read somewhere that the spell check was messed up because of one of the recent apple updates. I feel like I've had it in other programs too I just can't think of them at the moment.

Jan 21, 2009I'm running Mac OS X (Version 10.5.6) on my PowerBook G4.
My Spell Check in Mail (3.5) hasn't been "Checking as I type," even tho that setting is checked. I've done everything from restarting mail to shutting down my system and completely restarting the computer. That normally works when I've had this problem in the past. Not this time.
What's IS happening, is that Mail is doing a red underline in the first word of every new line of my email messages, even when those words are spelled correctly. However, aside from underlining the first word of each line, other misspelled words -- in the body -- are not being caught.

Oct 1, 2009I just got a new mbp. (old one's logic board and cpu died)
With my old mbp(leopard) everything flash related was working perfectly fine.
The new mbp, Flash works with every other browsers such as Safari and Opera.
However, when using Firefox to watch videos or browse websites, Flash thinks my left mouse click is my right click. So whenever I try to pause a video or play it, flash opens up "About Flash Player 10"

OS X :: Quicktime Plugin Not Working In Safari Or Firefox?
Nov 22, 2009I switched from PC to iMac last week . I am very excited by the performance of Mac OSX and display of the new 21.5" iMac. The only problem I face is that quicktime movies are not played in safari/firefox. Safari waits indefinitely for loading the quicktime movie , firefox shows a big 'Q ?'. Don't know what that means.
This frustrating because I can't view any of the tutorial movies in the apple website. It is ironic that apple's own format is not playing on the new iMac.
The OS is Mac OSX 10.6.2 . Flash is playing well in the same machine. I am new to mac .

Mar 4, 2010I've been having this problem in 3.5 and 3.6...any time I mouse over text or an image that has a tooltip (the little yellow text box), I just get a blank yellow box. Take xkcd, for example. The main comic (image) always pops up a text box. But all I see is a small blank box, like it's displaying a space or something.

YouTube videos play (can hear sound) but just a black box, unless I full screen I can see it. All other flash (e.g. Dailymotion, Vimeo) don't play at all.
Works fine on Safari, but not on Firefox and Chrome.
I have uninstalled Flash, no luck.
Is this something to do with the hardware acceleration?
I have a silver unibody MacBook.

Apr 29, 2012I have 10.5.8 and I think I read that in the latest FF update, Java is disabled and with my version of software, no way to make it work anymore. Is this true? I have an onlime game that I think requires Java to play and I cannot access the game today and am wondering if that is the reason. I could play yesterday, but not today, it hangs when loading. It could be the game site itself, but I got to thinking about Java and did some research and saw that Java is only supported now in 10.6 and higher. If it is a java issue, is there any way to get it back and working with my system? I tried accessing it using Safari, same issue, hangs in same place.

Sep 2, 2010I think what I'm talking about are javascript links...when you go to, for example, [URL] I'm talking about the links in the box on the right labeled "Most Watched Video." None of the links IN THAT BOX work for me. By "work" of course I mean go anywhere or do anything. It's as if I'm clicking in an area of a page without links.
This happens for me in other sites with similar links. What gives?!
I've checked Firefox and am running the latest version of javascript. I'm also running the latest version of Firefox 3.6.8. I'm on a Mac OSX 10.4.11 - old system software, I realize, but I simply haven't been able to afford moving beyond this (plus my Mac is a Macbook, 2GB RAM, 80GB HD - old unit).

Sep 2, 2008hopefully this is the right place to ask this. my audio streaming doesnt work with firefox 3 but it works with safari on my macbook pro running 10.4.11. firefox 3 will stream video but not audio and it still downloads everything correctly. it was working perfect for a while and then all of the sudden boom no audio streaming. let me give you all a link to a zshare audio file so you can get an idea whats going on
