I was watching movies fine last month, and now when i put a dvd in it shows up black. at first, i thought it was because of the type of dvd, but then i realized something was wrong when i put in the movie that i just watched and it showed up blank. it does not have any scrathes on it and i have iDVD what do i do!!

When I need to go somewhere or just eat lunch, I put my iMac to sleep. After that, when I come back to wake it back up, it stays black.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a 27 inch desktop. Upon turning the computer on within seconds the fan comes on. Then it goes to a high fan. Then it goes to a black screen. Then it shuts off. Then if you click the mouse it will come back on. This cycle repeats itself every 5 seconds. Only one time in the past month did it turn on normally and run for me.

Imported movies are suddenly not showing up in iTunes. When I import they copy over and create a corresponding folder in finder, but they are not displaying in the iTunes library. This has just started happening today. The movies show up and will play on Apple TV2 and on the Mac using QuickTime, but not in iTunes. We use iTunes to sort movies.

View 1 Replies View RelatedIt seems a whole section of my 350+ movies in my iTunes have all of a sudden stopped playing back. These are movies that played back perfectly just a few days ago but now only display a black screen with the timeline ticking away as if it was playing. All these movies were ripped from DVD's and converted using Handbrake.
Has this happened to anyone else? I think its some type of file corruption but I can't imagine what caused it. What makes it strange is that it only happened to a section of movies and not one common trait can be found among them.
I've done a bit of googling and mroogling and haven't been able to find a solution let alone another user have the same problem.
Any ideas? I have all the video_ts folders backed up so I just need to encode them again, but I would like to prevent this from happening again.
Some of the movies in my library will not play. When they are opened the viewing screen shows black with the controller. I can move between chapters but the movie will not play.
View 1 Replies View RelatedMy MacBook Pro won't turn on. When I turn it on, I can hear the motor whirring, but the screen stays black. I've tried leaving it off for an extended period, I've tried unplugging the charger, leaving it to charge for 24+ hours, taking the battery out, checked that the screen brightness wasn't accidentally turned down, everything!! It started about 2 weeks ago, since then it's turned on a couple of times, but when I stop using it and it goes into sleep mode, or I turn it off, it won't come back on again. Not sure what's wrong with it, but there's some urgent files I need on that computer! I also have an iMac, which I was hoping to transfer the files to, so I can send the laptop to be looked at. So, I have 2 questions...
1. What is most likely wrong with the laptop, and is it something I can fix so it will turn on again?

My Mac Pro crashed yesterday after it was reading an empty DVD, and now if boot the Mac it shows this screen:I have tryed rebooting it in safe mode, does not work, I get the same screen. Tryed to use a other monitor, same problem. Now, If I press the Eject button, the disc tray will eject and if I press the volume button it can be heard.

I have hundreds of .avi movies on my computer and play them through vlc. I would like to put them in itunes to organize them but handbraking them would take years, and I have them on an external drive and putting them in itunes would add them to my computer's hd.
I just want to organize all my movies (mp4's, .avi's, etc..) even if it means just seeing a poster of each in a thumbnail instead of just seeing a title with the same .avi icon. I would love to change a thumbnail in finder to a movie poster but I don't think it is possible.
I have seen apps like yFlicks and Movie Jukebox but they don't play .avi's and they aren't what I'm looking for.

View 1 Replies View RelatedLast week I put an extra hard drive into a powermac G4 - i didnt know if the hardrive was working or not, and I was asked to put both Harddrives in the one machine to find out if it was working. I did this and nothing happened. I changed the jumpers and still nothing happened.
the existing hardrive was being read but not the new one that I had put in, so I went to start up disk and changed the disk that I was starting up from to the other hardrive. It wouldnt boot, i took the hardrive out and tried to put the computer back to its original state and nothing happened. just a blank screen. I have tried pressing OPT and the hardrive appears but after this screen nothing happens. if I were to use the install disc, would this wipe the hard-drive at all?
If I were to connect a Mac Pro to a TV via the DVI output and using a DVI to HDMI cable, could I still work on the computer at the same time while the movie is being played on the TV. I want to rip my whole DVD collection to the HDD.
I know that I could do this with AppleTV but I want to be able to go directly from the Mac to the TV and be able to play movies in 1080 vs. 720.
Also, am I right to assume that the video quality would be the same through the Mac as opposed to a DVD player?

Make up a dvd that can play in a dvd player. Its a blu ray player, im not sure if that makes a diff, think I just have to check what types of files it plays and change them accordingly. So how do i burn a movie onto a dvd?
Other question, Im having a problem with my wireless internet. My macbook works fine everywhere else and nobody else i live with have any problems. Just my computer in my house. The internets REALLY slow. I rang NTL and they said its your computer, so rang apple and they did some tests and said its your network so I rang NTL again and they gave me a number for netgear, the people who make the router. They were NO help, you can't call them from a mobile phone and I dont have a housephone. Is there anything I can do?
