need some ideas here, last night i successfully upgraded to 10.7.3, today however i noticed that i can't no longer discover my PCs in the network. i have a PC installed with windows 7, with one directory shared over the home network, i used to be able to access that shared directory in Finder -> Shared -> my PC's name.Â
now i can't find anything there in Finder -> Shared, except my time capsule.Â

I think it's the new text replacement stuff in Snow Leopard that's causing this 'problem'. Every time I type more than one capital using the Shift key, the other capitals are replaced by lower case letters. Now this is useful when you mistakenly started a sentence with two capitals, but I find it extremely annoying when I actually do need multiple capitals. And using caps lock all the time is annoying as well.
Is there a way to turn this off? I like the rest of the hole text replacement thing, and would like to keep that turned on. But I can't really find anything that has to do with 'accidental double capitals' or something like that.

Is it true that some software will stop working when upgrading to snow leopard, unless the developers have issued an SL-compatible update?

I've had Snow Leopard since the day it came out. And I installed it that same day. Since then Spotlight is constantly indexing and will not stop. I noticed about a week after installation when I went to use stoplight and it wouldn't let me because it was indexing. Now fast forward to today I still haven't fixed this problem because I never really needed to use it. So no I have the need, and I need to fix this problem. BTW I'm using a 13" aluminum Mac Book bought around June '09 the model right before the current 13" aluminum Mac Book Pro's

I cannot get my imac to stop automatically searching for updates. I set preferences to monthly, or turn it off - it doesn't matter I cannot change it from checking for updates constantly. Furthermore, once it's checked for updates I cannot dismiss the ones I do not need or want. It constantly asks me to install the updates even though I would have no use for them.
Apple wants cash to solve the problem. Since it began occurring after my last paid OS update, that's BS.

USB Tethering stop working (while WiFi and Bluetooth tethering continue to be ok) on Mac 10.6.8 (Snow Leopard fully updated) after my iPhone device has been updated from iOS 5.0.1 to 5.1.The present issue is not related to the iPhone (Personal Hotspot ok, Carrier/APN settings ok). Moreover, USB layer seems to be ok on Mac also due to the fact that iTunes recognizes it correctly. Network Services on Mac are instead affected. Steps to Reproduce:1. Remove 'iPhone device' from Network Preferences;2. Connect iPhone via USB cable to the Mac;3. A new 'iPhone device' does not appears while the /var/log/kernel.log says:[DGMTP_Drv.cpp][probe()][00103][ERRO] Current vid (0x05ac) and expected vid (0x04e8) is not matched Other interesting information preceding the mentioned above error on kernel.log are:kxld[com.apple.driver.AppleUSBEthernetHost]: The super class vtable '__ZTV20IOEthernetController' for vtable '__ZTV20AppleUSBEthernetHost' is out of date. every 10 minutes in my log i see: com.apple.wikid.mailinglists mail:status = "list-updated" this is strange beause i DO NOT have mail activated, I do have webserver on but NO WIKIs are active. why would i still be getting this message? not sure if it's related but i've been experiencing random OS reboots after the memory page-file explodes and crashes. i'm getting ready to rebuild my system. don't know if it will fix my issues. been running this box fine for a year and only recently has it gotten whacky. maybe an update did it.

iMac with 2Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo, 4GB RAM, plenty of space available and currently operating 10.5.8. Now I want to upgrade to Snow Leopard and since my Mac Mini came with it, I attempted to use the OSX install disc from the Mini in the iMac. I don't see a reason why this shouldn't work. There's no DRM or anything as far as I know. I'm just trying to bridge the gap so I can download Lion. I've looked into some of the advice others have given on this subject but my computer doesn't have those issues. I've tried booting from disc but I get the same message.

I've been having trouble backing up my MacBook Pro to my Time Capsule (hasn't backed up in months) so I ran Disk Utility and it gave the following error: Disk Utility stopped verifying "Hard Disk". This disk needs to be repaired. Start up your computer with another disk (such as your Mac OS X installation disc), and then use Disk Utility to repair this disk. So, if I do that, will I end up losing whatever is on my hard disk? And how do I start up the computer using the OS X disk? Just put it in and restart?

I'm running a MBP with an SSD in what used to be the optical drive bay. I have a SL DMG installed to a flash drive but it's giving me some trouble on another Mac I've tried to install it on. Spinning twirly ball at reboot trouble.
I could re-install the optical drive, but I was hoping maybe I can install over gigabit ethernet? I think I've read about this but I'm missing the correct search term I think.

this is more of a very open ended question to see if anyone knows an answer, but I just uploaded snow leopard onto my mbp (early09) and all is great until I try and connect to my wifi, which it does but at the same time brings down the whole system so no computer can connect to the Internet the only way to fix it is to reset the wireless modem and turn off airport on the mbp. does anyone know why this might happen like hardware compitablity or is it a glitch other people are having ?

So I'm trying to print to a network printer, connected to a Vista PC. My Brother (windows fanboy) is able to print just fine through his wireless PC (Win7) but I can't get my head around why I cannot. I saved a webpage that helped me out before (used on Leopard) which use to work but it no longer work

Likely not useful for most of you - but for anyone who happens to use Juniper Network's Network Connect app for ssl VPN access, here's how to fix post SL install. Apparently, SL messes with perms and removes the 'Frameworks' dir.
[URL]
Code:
sudo chmod 755 /usr/local/juniper/nc/[version number]/
sudo mkdir '/Applications/Network Connect.app/Contents/Frameworks'
Tested, works like a charm.

I have a Mac Pro which I just upgraded from Leopard to Snow Leopard. I have an HP Multi-Function 2840 hooked up to the router via ethernet. This printer previously worked through Leopard.
Now, my understanding is that for SL, the drivers for this printer are in the operating system and can not be downloaded from HP.
How do I set this up as a network printer? I would like to be able to print from my other computers in the house as well.
Please Note: Snow Leopard only provides drivers for the printing function of this machine. I am going to have to revert to other means to use this device to scan.

When I access another Mac via Airport (using Safari and typing in an address such as afp://192.168.1.3), I can access the other Mac by typing in the password, its disk will appear on my Desktop, but a small red dash appears in User folders such as Desktop, and if I try to open the folder it says I don't have permission.

When signing in to macbook, which is network connected, tries to connect to a non-existent NAS server (used to exist but replaced). Gives message that 'NAS server cannot be found', usually at least twice. Message(s) can be canceled without a problem. Then when opening Chrome, same message appears again. System is obviously retaining this old location somewhere within a setting, but do not know how or what to look for.
