Dec 5, 2014I have a 4 yr old macBook Air with solid state disk capacity 120 GB. It has loads of music and about 12000 photos on it and the disk is getting full.I also have an iPhone 4s.I am treating myself to a new iMac with 1 Tb drive.I guess it would be sensible to move most photos and music to the new iMac.(I have a 500Gb hard drive I use to back up the macAir)
Re photostream - does it store photos on the Macbook itself? Can I set up my phone to send photos to the iMac instead of the current macbook air? How?How do I keep duplicates of some of the photos on the macbook?

Aug 23, 201410.8 and 10.9 become a headache copying/moving files/folders between disks. After download selected images to my Imac from cards I used to move all of them to a local network backup disk (attached to a linux OS)
I don't do this anymore from a year ago: annoying warnings like "the file ... is in use" (not in use, even had been downloaded) stopped move; repeated procedure with the rest of the files included the 'used' one, over and over again and finally, after 12 times or so all files had moved. 100 files to move, stop, 80 files to move, stop, 60 files.......
Same problem moving files between disks attached to the same iMac.'You have to provide an admin password...." -> Continue Password set and again 'File ... is in use' (not in use, it is just backup file)Reseting the Mac. Worse
.'You have to provide an admin password...." No 'Continue' option, just only 'Ok' that will do.... nothing.My solution: Terminal: sudo mv source target

May 13, 2012Why doesn't the original document I'm dragging and dropping from one folder to another move? What's happening is the computer is creating a duplicte of the document and placing it in the new location with a new creation date. The original document I wanted to drag and drop into a new location remains where it started as the "original" document and the new copy has this little arrow protruding up from the lower left of its icon. At first I thought it was an alias, but it's a copy of the document I thought I was dragging and dropping.

After I change my OS from Mavericks to Yosemite, moving files between folders is very slow.
For example, if I move one jpg file in Desktop to Pictures folder (or just any other folders like Trash), it takes about 3 seconds.
When I was still using Mavericks, it made that Ding sound and transferred files right away. However, now, although it makes the Ding sound right away, the file is still there for 3 seconds.
I tried to clean up my mac using many apps, but they never fixed this problem.
I've also tried what I saw on this one thread. OS X File Transfers Very Slow
Go->Connect to Server then type "cifs://server-address" but it says there is a problem and did nothing. (maybe different issue)

Sep 2, 2014My 500gb iMac (purchased April 2010) is about at capacity. 350gb of space is taken up by home movies (.mov) in iMovie. I bought an external hard drive and have moved about 200gb over to that drive.
After transfer, I deleted the original Events off iMovie and emptied the trash. I checked in both iMovie and in Finder and no longer see those files present on the Mac.
I thought this was going smooth and everything worked perfectly, but….when i went to check how much storage space i created on the Mac, the amount of available space barely budged (i moved 200gb of data to the new drive and i created about 30gb of space on the Mac).
Are these "deleted" files hidden somewhere and I need to go delete from somewhere else? How do I make sure I get back the storage that i need?

IMac (Intel) :: Thunderbolt To Firewire 800 Adaptor - Connection Dropping
Aug 29, 2014I have a new iMac purchased in Q1 2014 and connect my G-Grive to it via an Apple Thunderbolt to Firewire 800 adapter. My iMac runs 24x7 and this FireWire 800 hard drive connection drops out on a regular basis - I'd say maybe once every week or so leading to a dismounted drive and an unavailable iTunes library. I have a slightly newer USB3 G-Drive which is connected by the USB socket next to the TB socket on my iMac. This one doesn't drop out/dismount. I cannot tell if it is a software issue or a physical (cable movement issue), the plug has never been out and I can't deliberately disconnect it at will by wobbling the cable/plug.
So, evidence and experimentation suggests the physical connection is not the issue. This problem has only come about after switching from a physical FW800 connection (my old iMac) to working via a TB adaptor (my new iMac). I'd rather not replace with more USB3 G-Drives (lack of free ports) and I'm not sure if I want to invest in a TB drive if the connections cannot be relied upon. I've seen lots of complaints of TB-FW800 connections dropping on MacBooks but did not see a specific solution. .

Intel Mac :: Moving Files In It Over To A New SSD
Mar 27, 2012I have a mid-2010 27" iMac, which I've just installed a new 256 Gb SSD (blazingly fast!!!) which I want to use as my primary hard drive. The 1Tb Hard drive which I'm now using will continue to be in the machine, but will serve as the document storage drive. I am using Lion and have everything backed up via Time Machine. The SSD has a clean install of Lion.
What I want to know is how can I move all of my applications over to the SSD while still keeping the documents on the 1Tb Hard Drive. Should I use my Time Machine with the Migration Assistant to do this? If I do, how do I then delete all applications off the 1Tb Hard Drive while keeping my documents? Although I have everything backed up, I'm worried that as has happened before when migrating over to a new computer, the Time Machine backup drive will not let me access previous backups once I migrate everything.

OS X :: Moving Files From IMac To Maxtor Harddrive?
Jun 7, 2009The case is this: I have a 200 GB Maxtor harddrive onto witch i want to copy all the video, zip and other files from my imac. I have allredy copied most of them by using a memory stick and taking it over to a PC and from there over to the Maxtor. But the files i have left on the mac is to large for the memory stick.
The Mac can only read, and not wright the Maxtor. But i just can't understand that i can just copy the files from the Mac to the Maxtor via a PC, but not directly?? isnt there a way to copy the files directly to the Maxtor?
I don't know much about filesystems but on my imac it says someting with RAID and aufofs. I have also understood that i can format the Maxtor to FAT-32, but some of the files are greater than 4 GB, so that wont work right?

Mar 30, 2009I love my 1st generation MacBook Pro 15" very much. She's running the latest Leopard update, and everything was running smoothly up until a couple of days ago. For some reason, the computer seems to think that I'm constantly holding down the mouse button. No matter what application I'm in, the cursor starts acting up - dragging boxes and files in finder, dragging things off the dock instead of hovering over them, etc etc. This doesn't happen all the time, and I'm not sure what triggers it, but it somehow seems to happen more often later in the day. Sometimes it stops within seconds, sometimes it's a couple of minutes before it goes back to normal.
Sometimes clicking the real mouse button a couple of times or pressing escape fixes it, sometimes it doesn't. My first thought was that it was Blender causing a problem, as that's the first place the problem showed up. When I noticed the same thing occuring in Finder, after a fresh reboot, I thought maybe a hack I had recently applied was the culprit, but nothing came to mind. To be on the safe side, I tried making a hack-free account and using it for a while, but to no avail-same problem (less often, however). Now, getting desperate, I switched over to my Boot Camp partition. The problem reared its ugly head there, too - not nearly as often, however...just two or three times in my two hours there.

Feb 13, 2012I seem to have a problem that happens frequently. If I click and drag a file when I unclick (drop the file) the mouse/cursor won't let go of the file. The file kind of sticks to the arrow. I have to either rapid fire click, hold down esc and click, right click, to let go of the file.

Jan 31, 2012I want to manually add color profiles for my camera in Adobe Lightroom. The path is /Library/Application Support/Adobe/CameraRaw/CameraProfiles/Camera. Another folder for my DSLR needs to be created under Camera where the profile files will be placed.
If I go to the Library folder by selecting option and Go, the path ends at CameraProfiles and all I see is index.dat. If I double click the hard drive icon, I see the folder but cannot add anything.

Dec 9, 2014When I drag-and-hold a file to a folder with the purpose of placing it into one of its subfolders, I can't go past the first folder: in other words, unlike Mavericks, where I could drag the file and open one folder after the other until I could just release my file into the final destination, since I installed Yosemite I can't do it any longer and when I place the dragged file over a subfolder all I see is a "+" sign, but the folder won't open. Is there a way to restore that functionality?

Every time I move my mouse quickly left or right (i.e. if I am just moving it out of the way of my keyboard), the action causes the screen to close down so that I have to re-enter my password to get back to the pages I had open. Jun 28, 2014My Macbook Pro from 2007 won't boot anymore, turns out to have NVIDIA GPU problem. It ran on Snow Leopard, but I can't enter it anymore to upgrade. I'm trying to move mail to my new Imac and have a TM backup on the desktop of it. I followed this [URL]..... Mail folder and plist are now copied in the same locations, new original Mail folder is parked on desktop because I didn't dare 'fuse' the two, let alone replace it with my old mail folder.
When opening the Mail app. I get the permissions message that I should set 'read and write' permissions on the Mail folder, but it says the info Mail wants to use is in the mail folder in the Backup folder, although I provided it with a copy in its own Library. The permissions via show info were ok, but I redid them and still the error keeps popping up.
Questions:
Why won't it use the folder from its own library?
Could this be because my previous version is too old?
I can't enter my mail or mail addresses, years of data there..
