Aug 31, 2014I need to install OS X 10.6 on my new MacBook (10.8.2) because older programs won't work on my new machines. I've successfully created a new partition. However when I hold down option button on startup I only see original partition and Recovery-10.8.2 but not the new partition. How on earth does one install an older version of OS X on a new machine.

Want to install tiger on a partition (Extended Journaled type) made on Lion using Disk Utility, my only question here is: Will it work if I've burned on a DVD the installer of Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger Install DVD (PPC) and then run the instalation and trigger it to this partition? Or if this is not the proper way, which is it? I would really love to have both OS on my iMac 24-in Intel Core 2 Duo mid 2007.
I've read that newer macs won't accept this procedure I'm trying to pull out, but my actual iMac (2007) came with Tiger installed on it, but the install disk is lost, tried to find it but I never could.

Jun 2, 2014I have new iMac with a 3TB fusion drive. I would like to create a small *backup* partition where i can create an installer version of mavericks so when i do a clean install, i can select that drive from the bootable disk selection menu and it runs the mavericks installer from that partition, rather than a USB thumb drive. I looked at the recovery mode option however it appears to download a new 5gb installer of mavericks instead of using an already downloaded version of mavericks (updated version).
I dont want to split the SSD/HDD components of the fusion drive so they are seperate, i just want to add a small partition to be partitioned as a mavericks installer drive.

Nov 30, 2014I cleared out all files of Windows I had on my Mac before I did any research. Maybe I thought for some unknown reason that is how you fix the problem - obviously not.
FYI, I did go through the whole bootcamp installation, divided my hard drive, what have you. I cannot delete the BC partition through BC Assistant, the option box is greyed out. I cannot adjust the partition size through disk utility because the minus and plus buttons are greyed out as well.

Jun 25, 2014Ive lost Hd space after removing my windows partition (60gb). I can't reinstall another partition as I've only 23gb left... when removing the original partition it came up with an error (can't remember exactly..but it failed to verify?
I tried using disk utility to open up the disk size, by streching the corner mark?? and verify it, as per a previous recommended remedy ..it fails
I have re opened osx in R mode and used disk utility it still fails to repair or verify lost space? I have no back up drive as it recently failed...tsk and don't want to lose anything else??

Sep 6, 2014Recently, I got an email from apple about finally being able to download Yosemite beta. I happily did so, and it was working fine, but my dad wasn't happy. I did this with his permission, but he couldn't get iPhoto to work, and was extremely annoyed at the Yosemite beta, so he tried to fix the problem himself. He somehow loaded all the data up into a time machine file on a hard drive, and then booted our mac in disk utility mode, and recoveried drived it and stuff, which in end, he used to downgrade Yosemite to Mavericks. What he didn't realise was that Yosemite and other OS X versions weren't designed to be downgraded, and in fact don't support it. Well, our computers running Mavericks now, and it is going fine apart from one major hitch. Currently, we are able to login (using our designated passwords) however, once logged in, our passwords don't work. This means nothing can be installed or uninstalled or anything etc.
For example, once logged in, we cannot edit settings, as when this pops up, our passwords just get denied when we try and enter them:
Our passwords when we login are the same, but it is almost like nobody is administrator. However, we clearly are administrator as labeled in the settings tab...
I have tried to reinstall Yosemite however, I need a password to do so.

My first question is, what will the 4850M GPU be capable of? Say in terms of playing Crysis: Warhead and BFBC2?
My current system is a 08 Mac Pro Octo @ 3.0GHz, 18GB 800MHz RAM, GTX 285, and Intel X25-M G2 SSD, 1920x1200 res on a 23" ACD.
How comparable is the 4850M 512MB to the GTX 285 1GB? Could I play Crysis on medium settings w/ no AA @ 2560x1440?
My second question is, how easily can I install an Intel X25-M G2 SSD? Also will I be able to take the iMac into the store and get them to install the SSD?
My third question is, will I notice much of an improvement over my current system. The iMac has faster RAM, and newer Core i7 processors @ 2.8GHz that turbo up to 3.46GHz.
My fourth question is, when using Parallels 5 Desktop for Mac and configuring a VM I can choose how many processor cores I dedicate to the VM, will it show up as 8 or only 4?

Jul 1, 2014Every time my iMac restarts or boots up, it brings me to the OS X installer page since last night.
I have done the disk utility check and my hard drive is ok. I then tried restoring from network which stops half way and reboot. I have also tried restoring from Time Machine but it has also stopped and rebooted several times.
My iMac is currently running OS 10.9.3
