Can't keep cookies out! Certificates were an issue until keychain fix. Now use 32 bit/rosetta. How do I get a full 5.0.5 without reinstalling 10.6.8? I updated to 10.6.8. Had no problems with 10.6.7.

I was using Terminal in my MacBook Pro to check if it was infected with the flashback Trojan but all results were negative. After confirming that I was not infected I typed the word "clear" and then the word "exit" before quitting terminal. Is this the appropriate procedure to close the terminal in OSX? Or it is an overkill? Will these commands affect the functionality of the command line in the future?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a Snow Leopard Install Disk for the 13-inch Macbook Pro model.I also have a 21-inch iMac. I have OS X Lion installed on both. I have Snow Leopard installed as a partition on my Macbook Pro, which I installed via the install disk. I want to do the same thing for my iMac but I am unable due to (seemingly) my install disk is for a Macbook Pro and not for an iMac.

How do I find the place where cookies are listed? I found it once but can't locate anywhere. I tried under Safari Preferences>Private but cannot find Private.
I find somethings that says Cookies under Security but that does not list any unusual listings. There MUST be somewhere I can find out if I have a virus, junk, or the like. Safari freezes, dumps and has slowed down.

I opened up iCal and discovered a TON of ToDo items piled up from when I quit using iCal. I really don't want to delete each one by hand. I do not really want to reset it. I want to keep the Calendars, just delete the ToDos. (I actually use BusyCal, which rocks! but it syncs with iCal so I am clearing out iCal first). I've googled it and cannot find anything but how to reset the whole thing. Any way to sync the Calendars on 2 computers and an iPhone without Lion?

How do I clear all information from my iMac?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have an imac with leopard OS and a macbook pro with snow leopard on it, and I can't seem to connect the two computers. Even when they are directly connected with ethernet cable, I can see the imac but not connect with it. I can connect to the macbook from the imac, but not vice-versa. My network is ethernet through linksys WRT610 router. Repeated attempts to connect from the macbook result in "connection failed" message and "imac may not exist or is not available."
View 7 Replies View RelatedMy iMac 24 has been acting just a tiny bit sluggish of late, seeing the pinwheel a few times. All the reading I've gone through suggests two possibilities; overloaded cache or a HDD that's starting to go south. Hmmmm. OK, so exactly how do I get to the so-called "Library Caches" and which folders do I delete. Next, is there a good diagnostic tool that will give me layman's language results that a consumer/user can understand? And lastly, if the HDD is going south and my iMac is long past warranty... can I; (A) replace the HDD myself, and (B) can I upgrade the drive size (currently 500G) to a 1TB drive? My machine currently has 4 Gigs of RAM and I guess that's all it can handle right? Wish I could upgrade that!
I did clear my safari cache and saw a decent pickup in speed.
I would like to clean out my HD and reinstall OS X 10.5.8 Leopard, but I do not have the original install discs. My plan is to buy the Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard universal retail disc from an outside dealer (going for $200+) and also buy additional memory (2GB 533MHz DDR2 SDRAM (PC2-4200)) to help with space.Â
I am worried about not being able to run QuarkXPress 6.0, Extensis Suitcase X1, Microsoft Office 2008, and Adobe Creative Suite CS3 once I reformat. I do not want to upgrade to Lion because most of these programs do not work or in the case of CS3 very glitchy on Lion.Â
is this the best route to go? I do not want to buy leopard and the ram, until I know for sure this is the right way of proceeding.Â

Recently searched the history of my iMac to see just what was loaded into the system. What I found was that there were 3 different WI-FI networks on my iMac and I would like to know just what they belong to? One is called "Orangecat", another is "wildchild" and the last one is also "wildchild-guest". What these accounts are associated with and if they are part of the internal configuration of my iMac?

my iMac's (fist alu) optical drive is messed up. I have also an MacBook (alu), which helped me to create a bootable snow-leopard usb-stick (got the original retail DVD).
But the stick only works with the MacBook; my iMac does not recognize the stick. Has someone an idea?
I have a friend who owns a late 2006 17 inch 1.83GHz (C2D) with 512MB RAM. I was thinking about giving him the upgrade to SL for his birthday (he's running 10.5.8 if I remember correctly). I would give him the full version of course, just in case. But will it work? Or would I be better off just giving him RAM sticks? If so, what DDR2 RAM does that iMac use, and how much can it take?

View 17 Replies View RelatedI run a 24" iMac 500GB 4GB 2.8GHz 2600HD Pro. Its the first Al iMac, and the highest spec at the time.
I read the requirements, my iMac meets them all accept OpenCL, would this, by any chance in anyway slow down my iMac?
I have just upgraded to Snow Leopard and one of the questions I'm struggling to find an answer to, is just how much RAM can I put in my iMac? I'm running a 3.06GHz core 2 duo iMac, 2008 (last model, without the new fancy graphics card). And, it currently runs 4Gb of RAM. With all of the Snow Leopard talk of your system running a virtually infinite amount of RAM, how much can I run???
Am I limited in some way by the motherboard in my iMac? Or can I "fill my boots!!"?
I've attached a screenshot of my current system configuration.
How much ram will my iMac (5,1) running 10.6.2 address? The limit was 3GB with 10.5.
View 6 Replies View RelatedWhile using Mail, I got a message that there was an error with Mail and I needed to quit and reboot. When I re-opened mail, it prompted me to set it up and while it was reading the files, it froze. Subsequently, my Imac (OS 10.6.3? Snow Leopard) became frozen, i.e. my whole computer. I shut down using the back button (nothing else worked) and then restarted. I then re-booted using the regular re-start system. I was able to do 2-3 functions (the computer was super slow) and it froze again. After 2-3 repeats of the same procedure, it freezes after being turned off and on using the back button. I updated my software about 3 days ago. There was a major security update in that update. I'm waiting for a professional techy to call me back, but if you have any suggestions on how I should proceed, I'd be most grateful.
