View 1 RepliesI'm using a 20" white intel iMac and cannot manage to remove a linux boot disc from the optical drive. At first, the only way that i managed to boot to the linux disc in the first place was from the Startup Disk menu in OSX. I could not even get to the Startup Manager ('opt' at boot) or boot straight to the disc ('C').Now i'm in a position where no matter what i do, the system boots to the linux disc. I cannot even force the startup into OSX to try to eject the disc from there. I've tried holding all of these keys/combinations at startup

View 2 Replies View RelatedI would like to know if it's possible to disassemble both this: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage....=1185267958970 and this: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage....=1185271084002 drive to remove from the casing and put in a Mac Pro. I've seen pictures here: http://www.carltonbale.com/2008/01/w...ing-the-drive/ on how to disassemble the case, but am wondering if it will work in a Mac Pro.

There seems to be a solution, but I have no idea how to remove this (I do have an external WD HDD). I just don't find anything related to Western Digital.
I'm not the most computer savy guy in the world but I thought I'd ask the question. Is there a way to remove the hard drive from an old MacBook I have that stopped working (the plug where the power cord goes in is messed up nothing is wrong with the hard drive I believe) and use that hard drive as an external hard drive for my new(ish) iMac and use it for extra space? It would be amazing if I could. Anyone know how I can do this?
View 11 Replies View RelatedI realize this may be a stupid question but here goes... I have recently installed Windows XP with Boot Camp and now realize more than ever how much I hate XP and was wondering if it were possible to remove that partition all together from the hard drive, and I guess have it added back to my Mac OS side. I think i know the answer but just want to be sure.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI recently ran across a great deal on a Mac Pro. I have been a Windows user since about day 1 of windows. My windows machine is a Gateway with a 320GB SATA drive with Vista Ultimate installed. Is there a way to take this hard drive and mount it in my Mac Pro and be able to boot to it? There are a LOT of programs on that drive (windows) that I use for specialized tasks and I lose a LOT of TIME trying to find Mac equivalents and then learning to use them.
Boot Camp on my Mac does not seem to want to work properly (although it does tell me what I need to do ... sort of). I just want to put my windows drive in my Mac and be able to boot to it.
P.S. It's a Mac Pro 3.1, 2 2.8ghz quad core Xeon, 16gb DDR2 ram, Snow Leopard
I had a MBA. I needed more RAM, higher CPU and larger drive capacity. So I changed to MBP. What I dont need is the optical drive. Apple should ditch the optical drive in MBPs or at least have an option not having an optical. Instead more battery and 2 disk bays.
View 24 Replies View RelatedThis is a Mac Mini operating on OS 10.58. I have a CD in the combo drive, and it apparently has something recorded on it. I think this CD had started to be burned and I stopped it. The computer indicates that this CD is not blank. The result is that it will not eject, even after several attempts using the small eject arrow at the top of the desktop, the use of apple-E, and after repeated efforts with a complete shutdown -- still the disk is stuck in the drive. I suspect that it's in a loop situation, where it tries to run the CD with not effect, but it also cannot eject it.Â
I notice a small black square, appearing to be black plastic, at the far right end of the CD/DVD player slot at the top of the Mac Mini. In the old days there was such a hole into which one could stick a straight wire, like a heavy duty straightened paper clip, and it would physically eject a stuck disk. Is there such a thing on this Mac Mini?Â

I don't have an icon on desktop indicating a disk is in CD slot. But when I turn off or turn on, it makes sounds like a disk is trying to eject. When I push the eject button nothing happens. How do I get disk out?

I was wondering if anyone had successfully installed and 2nd hard drive in their iMac?I have a 2 year old 2.8 24'' iMac and the performance just isn't cutting the mustard, it's all hard drive related and I already have a decent 1TB drive in there.I was thinking of perhaps swapping the optical drive with a second hard drive for RAID0, but not too sure if there will be space and was wondering if the optical drive is a standard SATA connector, or if there is some way I could run a SATA+power cables externally?

I see plastic everywhere and am 'guessing’ there is some sort of detent or stop that you can click to slide the original drive out. But I don’t see it! So, is there some sort of tray or rack that will allow me to slide out the old and slide in the new?

I have a MacBook Pro early 2011 2.2 ghz with an SSD and a HDD. Mac OS is currently installed on both hard drives and I would like to remove it from my second hard drive, without deleting all my documents, movies, etc.

So I decided to go through with a clean install of Lion, since my MacBook is filled with unorganized junk and I just felt like getting a fresh start (I've also had connectivity problems with Airport, although it hasn't really bothered me much since I don't mind an old school network cable).I formatted a bootable USB thumb drive with the Lion OS .dmg file, restarted the computer while holding the alt button and selected to boot from the USB. The screen then showed the regular boot screen (whitish background with a grey Apple logo in the middle and a spinning loading icon right beneath the logo). After about 20 seconds, the Apple logo was replaced with a grey stop sign (a circle with a line straight across) and the loading icon kept spinning.
It's been like this for an hour and 20 minutes now, and I need to know what to do. Something is obviously not quite right. Should I remove the USB drive and try to restart the computer? Or just leave the USB drive and try to restart?
