Apr 20, 2012I have a mid-2007 20" iMac, 250 GB hard drive, 4 GB memory, and it runs Lion.I understand I will have to reboot the computer with Snow Leopard, since Lion is non-transferrable, but do I do this after I've deauthorized iTunes and done a 35-pass wipe of the hard drive?Also, do you recommend that I add biogradable peanuts to the inside of the box (I have the original) before shipping it, or are the Apple-provided styrofoam bumpers that fit on each corner sufficient? It's going USPS to a military base overseas.

Dec 15, 2010Just now I was posting an add on Gumtree trying to sell my iMac, then I went into Dashboard to look at some notes and noticed some black indent- like text, from the Gumtree add. Is this screen burn?
I had a quick search on Google and found out that this happens more in cold environments. My room is very cold at the moment, but I haven't had anything like this happen before.
So, is this something that Apple can fix if I send the iMac in? It's still under AppleCare.

Jun 22, 2012I am considering the possibility of selling my iMac to fund a retina MacBook. The screen really won me over when playing with it in an Apple Store. My iMac specs are as follows: 27-INCH, Mid 2010 Processor 3.6 GHz Intel Core i5Memory 8 GB 1333 MHz DDR3Graphics ATI Radeon HD 5750 1024 MB256 GB SSD + 1TB HDD It is in flawless and mint condition. I am hoping to get enough to fund the Retina MacBook (around £1500), as I get HE discount. I have a 24" Apple Cinema display I can connect the Retina MacBook to. I will use it only as my home workstation, as I already own a 13" MacBook air. So my Question(s) are as follows: 1) Will the MacBook match the power of my current iMac (I like to edit photos, play some music, play WoW) 2) Is this move worth it, or silly? 3) How will the 24" display look when connected to the retina? Can I use this external display as an "extension"? 4)?

So I have an external harddrive with data already on (it takes up only 40% of the harddrive). Now, I want to partition the harddrive and use the new partition for a Time Machine backup of my Mac.
Now, here's the question; would I be able to delete the Time Machine partition in the future and still leave the external harddrive's data (the original 40% of data I had in the first partition?

Apr 2, 2012just eagerly downloaded the update which supposedly fixed the problem with the "remove website data" from the Safari privacy pane, the one that doesn't work, right, well, it's just the same as it ever was, cookies popping up all over the place, even after deletion. Again, I do not wish to trawl my computer looking for plists or prefs to delete, I just want the "remove all website data" button to work. Any others still experiencing this or is it just me? I had ipod touch, i sold it and i will only use ipad + nokia phone + computer.
Most ipod apps are small, they are HD versions very soon. If I keep my itune account and buy ipad apps, most of my ipod apps will be wasted.
I have no music, video...only apps, and they are worth like over 450$. I think if I try to sell that, i may have 50$ at least, I only picked useful, famous apps and games. It's not a big deal, but not a waste. Someone can still use my account and save hundreds of $ buying on their own. Change info and add a card, then the account will work again.

Nov 1, 2009I'm using a 20" white intel iMac and cannot manage to remove a linux boot disc from the optical drive.At first, the only way that i managed to boot to the linux disc in the first place was from the Startup Disk menu in OSX. I could not even get to the Startup Manager ('opt' at boot) or boot straight to the disc ('C').Now i'm in a position where no matter what i do, the system boots to the linux disc. I cannot even force the startup into OSX to try to eject the disc from there. I've tried holding all of these keys/combinations at startup

Dec 3, 2010Got my new iMac 27" i7 2.93 for three weeks ago. Everything was kind of fine but now everytime i boot it starts to write to the disk, and since you really can hear when the machine writes to the disk, it's obvious when it does it. The disk is a WDC WD1001FALS-40Y6A0
- I turned of spotlight indexing, rebooted, 30 minutes later it was still writing like there was no tomorrow.
- Checked Console.app, just Google Chrome trowing messages (which is running slower then on my old MBP Santa Rosa 5400 rpm).
- Ran disk utilty repair permissions, still no luck.
- Used Lingon to get rid of **** at startup, still no luck.
- No disk encryption.
The bottom line: The machine runs slower, boots applications slower and functions slower then my old MBP 2.4 ghz Santa Rosa 2007 with a 5400 rpm hdd. I tried to run a blu ray mkv from the internal disk, stuttered as hell and didn't work despite VLC being the only open application. Then i ran it from an external 5400 rpm Firewire drive and it worked flawlessy. What is up with this? Shall i reinstall and empty my disk?
Is there any software for checking what applications is currently writing to the HDD?
