IMac :: Flash Memory/How To Do Data Recovery?

Oct 20, 2010

After today's MacBook air and it's flash memory, do you think apple will make a similar iMac air? Just a big screen that does basic stuff?

Plus is the flash memory exchangeable?

Can you remove it and slave it for data recovery? Or is the info lost if the memory crashes?

IMac (Intel) :: Apps Lost During Data Recovery

Dec 6, 2014

My hard drive recently failed on my 2007 imac and having not backed up my mac for about 18 months I had to pay specialists to retrieve my data, which they put onto an external drive. I then got a new 1TB hybrid drive installed. Tonight I finally got my computer back. Very naively I was thinking I would be able to pick back up from where I left off. Before my drive broke I had Mavericks and was fully up to date running software like Logic X. Now I am back on 10.6.8. Can I just skip now straight up to Yosemite?

iMac, Mac OS X (10.5.8), 4/5 years old.

IMac :: Question Mark Folder On Boot And Data Recovery?

Mar 20, 2010

First , scuse typing asrushing this on iPhone!

Got ?folder on boot on late 2007 21"iMac today. Have tried usual stuff including resettng pram and booting from cd. 1st time I booted from install cd it wouldn't even mountthe HD. Turned off and left for a few hours to cool down. Next time ibooted from cd HD mounted and I ran disk utilty repair bit it said there were no problems. Tried to boot from HD no luck.

So, guessing HD is fried:-(

so, before I take it to the apple store to get it replaced (doubt under warranty) or do it myself I want to see if I can recover the mportant data. While I am sure it's all backed up on cradhplan I have 80gb of photos and I'd rather ecover from USB to ext HD instead of over Internet from cradhplan.

So, I'm thnking... When my TM blew up last year I took the HD out and took it to work and slapped it in a drive bay of my mac pro, recovered the data, put it back in the TM before shipping it back to apple for a replacement (that then went on eBay since I got cradhplan)

so; question 1: can I take the HD out of the iMac and have a go installing it in my mac pro? Will an iMac HD fit in the mac pro case/bay?

Question 2: all my photos are also on the apple tv. Can I copy them from the apple tv to another mac if my backup had failed and doesn't restore or I can't recover from iMac HD? I know I had cradhplan set to backup iphoto library but I upgraded to aperture 3 recently and am worried that I have nit set crashplan up to backup the aperture library

Hardware :: What Is Best Data Recovery Option?

DATA RECOVERY SOFTWARE - OR - DATA RECOVERY COMPANIES?

I shot a film this summer on RED ONE digital camera, and now BOTH of my Lacie 2TB drives in which we deposited the footage aren't working. I NEED to recover data.

In researching here and online, I've looked into software options such as Data Rescue 3 and Disk Warrior.

I've also investigated companies in which you mail the drive into them. Lacie themselves recommended a CA outfit called Drive Savers Data Recovery; I've also investigated On Track Data Recovery (the world's largest), and ESS Data Recovery. There's also Tekserve here in Manhattan.

Does anyone have any experience with any of these options/companies specifically? Huge differences in price; everyone seems confident, ESS the most realistic.

What is the best route to recover my film?

The drives have about 800 GB of film footage - in the form of RED's proprietary software - R3D file extensions, plus Quicktime proxies.

Here are the drive issues:

DRIVE #1 - My Master copy of film: my iMac had OS 10.4.11; the drive mounted no problem; I upgraded a few days ago to Snow Leopard 10.6.4. Now it doesn't mount. It's in Disk Utility but the volume line is greyed out. The Apple Store folks tested my iMac and my drive and said it's the drive. They said it was just a coincidence that the drive developed an issue at the same time I upgraded my OS.

DRIVE #2 - was initialized in a Dell laptop, but NOT formatted.

OS X :: Hard Disk Drive Data Recovery

Jul 18, 2009

first off, long time MacRumors reader, finally joined the forum now in search of some aid. There are some other threads on a similar topic I know, but I was hoping for some So, the Hard drive in question is a Western Digital 5400rpm 320gig purchased from Amazon about 8 months ago, now the Hard drive has decided to die. I saw some early signs, but did not realise that the drive was in that bad of a condition at the time. Now, when attempting to boot into Mac OS X I get stuck at the Apple logo, with the little wheel spinning infinitely. I had a boot camp partition which worked, but could not help me and is no longer an option either. I tried using the Leopard boot disk, but Disk utility didnt do anything for me in terms of recovery or repair, I attempted to use the terminal to make an Image of the drive on an external, but it fails about 10% through, I'm assuming from corrupted data.

OS X :: External HD Failure / Unable To Complete Data Recovery

Aug 31, 2009

So i have been searching the Internet and forums to find someone with the same issue as myself. there are many that are close to it. though nothing that has helped me in this situation. so here i go posting a thread. My USB self powered HD was plugged in with data being accessed (Movie) when the cord got knocked out and unplugged the HD. This has happened before, though not when i was accessing the HD... usually this is fine.

Any way, i herd the HD struggle three time as if the needle jumped from the physical disk, it kinda sounded like it died. though when i plug it in now it sounds fine, the disk spins and receives power.
although the disk no longer mounts. though when i look it up under the Disk Utility it sees the drive and the fancy name i gave it (though it cant mount the drive) when I run verify and repair it gives me this message which is probably pretty standard:

Verrify and Repair "NCC-1701 D"
**/dev/disk2s1
**Phase 1 - Read FAT
Unable to read FAT (input/output error)
Error: The underlying task reported failure on exit

1 Non HFS volume checked
1 Volume could not be repaired because of an error.

boom nerdy music producer get stumped. got any tips? i have been trying to download some recovery software, though it more challenging to find them with out paying big dollar bills.

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Does The Recovery-Reinstall Preserve User-Data

Apr 5, 2012

The Macbook of a friend of mine doe not boot anymore after an abordet Itunes-Upadte yesterday evenig. How ever, the Save-Boot-Log tells me, that
"The System bootstrapper has crashed: Trace/BPT trap: 5" I assume that i have to reinstall OS X to get the Macbook run again. This is where i'm sure, whether the Install via Recovery-Partition -> Reinstall Lion does a complete Clean-Install (all Data that's been on the HDD will be gone) or does "only" some Repair-Install-Stuff which preserve the personal Data and Software on the HDD. Nevertheless i'm going to Backup (CCC) the broken installation to be on the safe side anyway.

OS X :: Leopard - Admin Reset - Data Recovery From Main User?

Jan 31, 2010

Recently I lost my admin identity password and consequently I was unable to trash applications or any file requiring the admin password. And so I reset this by reinstalling the setup (this is a bit of a hack I learned about through Youtube). After rebooting the system I was asked to create a new admin which I did and then I was asked whether I wanted to transfer the data I answered no to this option.

All my data (files, folders, photos, music, etc. now resides in an identity called Main User. How do I import all this material into my new admin identity or manage this such that all the preferences, bookmarks, Microsoft email user identity and all privileges are restored to how they were before?

MacBook Pro :: Disk Warrior Didn't Work For Data Recovery

Jun 11, 2012

My hard drive decided to quit after only 22 months! Some files were backed up but my current photo albums were not. That's all I really need, I don't care about all the other junk. I've tried booting from the Disk Warrior cd, which Apple Genuis Bar suggested since they don't do data recovery.

So it there another way I can do this myself or should I just bring it to Fry's for $149?

Another question would be, after I recover the files, I'd like to upgrade my MacBook Pro 13 to a Solid State drive. I know I need a 2.5" SATA, but which brand/size is good for a $200-$300 budget?

Hardware :: Unable To Mount Hard Drive In OSX / Data Recovery Software?

Aug 5, 2010

Recently, I was hired by a client to recover the data on a new macbook pro. They said one day the computer just wouldn't start, so they brought it to the Apple store, where they switched out the hard drive. They got to keep the old drive, which I attempted to recover using VirtualLab and R-Studio data recovery programs and a USB hard drive case. Both programs did the same thing: they scanned, and kept finding errors and never even got through 1% of the disk! R-Studio even scanned for almost 24 hours and nothing came up from the partition we needed to recover! Disk utility was the first thing I tried, and it appeared to have scanned the entire drive (this was about 3 weeks prior to trying the other programs)and found a lot of errors, but was not able to recover or repair the drive.

Also, the hard drive kept making a pulsating, repeating sound while it was being scanned that sounded like it was trying to read the disk, almost a scraping sound but not quite. The drive did spin up and was recognized by the recovery programs, but it did not mount in OS X.

I was just wondering if anyone here has had a similar problem, or knows of a better program and/or a good, trustworthy advanced data recovery service she can hire to recover her important data.

Hardware :: Data Recovery On External Hard Drives / No Longer Recognizable By HD

Dec 22, 2010

I am writing about my friends computer. He has a Macbook Pro and the other day had an Iomega 500GB plugged into the 800 firewire port. He for some reason accidentally pressed down hard on the drive, heard a grinding sound and it was no longer recognizable by the MAC HD. So, he then consequently plugged in his other backup drive to begin to make a clone, which is a LaCie External, and that drive then got corrupted when he plugged it in. So now, no backup what so ever.

Tonight, he went to an appt. with an Apple Genius Bar worker and they told him it was a coincidence and that once his Iomega was corrupted and he tried to boot the LaCie off of that, it corrupted the other drives too. He told my friend he has B-tree errors and needs data recovery on the external hard drives and that could be done.

My question is can he do this himself with an $100 program or does it pay to bring it into someone? He doesn't have a lot of $$$ to spend unfortunately so that's the issue. If anyone has dealt with this problem and has had a satisfactory outcome, please do not hesitate to advise!
