View 7 Replies1) Will it perform as well as the Flash memory in a MBA? They load apps stupidly fast, will the performance of a SSD in my MBP match that? 2) Are they hard to fit?3) I know there's loads of threads about this, but which would you recommend? I will be getting one for my dad's 13" MBP as well, will they both be the same size?

Was looking to buy a new laptop to replace dying old XP Dell and compliment iMac. Was thinking of a 13" Macbook Pro but have got interested and excited by this new Air. Its the instant on and portability that appeals........ but on this forums in places and elsewhere on internet (even Wikipaedia) there appears to be concerned that NAND flash memory has a definite life.... so many 1s and 0s changing before it slows right down.
Is this right... how long will it be.... can it be refreshed by copying stuff, doing something and then loading back up.... or has it to be replaced. The iFixit teardown suggests it is replaceable but at what cost. ie don't want to buy one only for the memory to give up the ghost in a year or two.
I read in another post here that the new all-flash memory is only good for about 100,000 saves, or 5 years for the average computer user. Is this really true? It seems silly to promote using hardware that puts such a limit on the user..

I noticed the new Macbook Pro with Retina display has flash memory instead of a Hard drive. I love the new features and I want to buy it but I'm very skeptical of this flash memory. Can someone please help explain it to me. Is it better than have a hard drive in your computer?

I know that the iFixIt tear down reveals Toshiba flash chips on the 11" MBA, but I was curious to know the following specs on the 13" MBA.
Does Apple use different suppliers for the different capacities/models (i.e. Samsung, Hynix, etc.)
I could make some guesses from the benchmark tests, but would like to have hard specs.
I tried contacting Apple, but the only thing they would tell me is the capacity available for purchase. I also don't have the guidelines to reference the flash specs based on the model of the Toshiba flash.
I keep hearing about this negative aspect of flash memory, a finite number of write cycles. So what is that number when it reaches the limit?

My computer has 500 GB of capacity, but I have seen that every time I open a file or boot something the memory used rises a little. Is this normal? It is the first time that I have seen.Â

I got a macbook pro base model last year (2009 model) and my girlfriend just got a macbook base model last weekend (2010 model)Seems as though her macbook has better specs than mine... I'm also considering upgrading to Snow Leopard but don't really see the point. That inertia scroll thing hers does is pretty cool... other than that everything is pretty much the same to the naked eye after a few hours of use.

It sounds like I am breaking it and it does it several times when I close it. When it is closed and I go to the back the black part of the hinge wiggles from side to side.
View 7 Replies View RelatedIt's only today that I noticed my MacBook's right speaker is considerably louder than the one on the left. I opened Sound panel in System Preferences to see if the balance was off, but it was set at dead center. Then, I dragged the balance slider all the way to the left to see if the sound coming from the left speaker was okay at all. Well, it sure isn't. Very muffled, muddy sound. No highs at all. Dragging the slider to the right side reveals a very different sound texture. Very crisp, as it should be. Really weird. Anybody else experiencing this odd speaker behaviour?
I googled for this problem and found this thread, right here on Mac Forums. It's a thread for the MacBook Pros, though. The people with a MacBook Pro think it's because there's a subwoofer on the right side. Well, the MacBook doesn't have a subwoofer, so it can't be that. Any ideas? Is it repair time?
By the way, I have a late 2008 unibody MacBook, the 2,4GHz model.
I have my laptop hooked to my TV so I can watch shows on the internet. The screens were independent until my cat walked on the keyboard and now the two are showing the same screen.  How do I change it back?

Lately I have been considering an issue and couldnt quite come to the right answer. is it true that certain programs cant be installed on flash memory? I have been looking at the 15" i7 but i hear that there might be an upgrade due around 2011, does anyone know anythng about this and what it is likely to include? Reason is i would not like to spend the money on the 15" only to find that a later greater upgrade is avail. in your opinion, is the upgrade likely as soon as april-may next year and is there likely to be any significant improvements?
View 2 Replies View RelatedWhen I plug in a USB Flash Memory, it instantly pop up a message that says I need to restart my computer, by letting the power button presed for a while or pressing the restart button (Which I dont have). It has a 0/1 button-like image on it.
At first I thought my USB had a virus or some corrupt file, but when I realized there were no mac files (Just Windows and universal), I pluged in another USB, and the same thing happened.
After today's MacBook air and it's flash memory, do you think apple will make a similar iMac air? Just a big screen that does basic stuff?
Plus is the flash memory exchangeable?
Can you remove it and slave it for data recovery? Or is the info lost if the memory crashes?
Just noticing the updated Flash Player on the new Snow Leopard update is taking about 660 MB of actual memory on my MBP.
Has anyone noticed and is this normal?
I have an issue I have been seeing since upgrading to Lion (10.7.3) and the latest version of Safari (5.1.3, I believe?). When browsing the web for a while (particularly, Flash heavy sites, I have noticed my computer's temperature getting hot and more beach balling starting to occur. The first time this happened, I opened Activity Monitor and noticed that Flash Player was using, almost, 900 MB of RAM (and I had less than 100 MB available). Other than Safari, I only had a couple of other applications open, neither of which were memory intensive. Quitting Safari gave me back a huge amount of memory, my temperatures, quickly, dropped back down to reasonable levels, and the performance lag went away. I never saw this kind of memory hogging under Snow Leopard. Is Flash Player this much of a nuisance under, either, Firefox or Chrome?Â

We have two Mac Laptops, 1 is the little white Macbook, the other MBP. We have DSL coming in and then thru a 2wire modem then thru the Airport. The 2 wire modem is connected to a PC. All of this sits about 40 feet from the bar where we use the laptops and is a straight shot.
My problem is that the the newer MBP is stuck in the mud when it comes to connecting, and then holding any type of signal strength with the wireless signal. The older little white MB works great, every bar on the wireless icon is black, on the other (as I type this they are both on and side by side..) only has one.
When pressing Alt/Option and clicking on the wireless icon the good computer shows a transmit rate of somewhere between 20 and 26 when I have checked it several times this morning, the bad one has never been above one.It seems for the price I paid for the Airport Ex. BOTH of these units should be getting full strength signals.Ever had this problem? No of any possible solutions? The fact that the slow one is my wife's machine doesn't make life any easierI figure before I make an Apple reservation I could do a little research myself.
I am attempting to edit two photos. My goal is to take the two photos and place the objects side by side so that both my daughters appear in the same photo.

I need some sort of free program to take two pictures and put them side by side. It's a one time deal so I don't want to pay for it, I just have images of artwork and their respective placards that I'd like to be able to put side by side as one image so it's easier to follow. I know it sounds basic and probably dumb but I literally have zero experience with photo applications.

View 2 Replies View RelatedThis seems an odd problem so I may be missing something -- but the connectors on my two Apple Cinema Displays will not plug into the card side by side. The plastic casing is just a tad too bulky, so you can't quite get the second connector in if the first plug is filled.  It's the card that originally came with the computer, a Mac Pro 1,1.Â
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have Toast 6 Titanium from a LaCie drive I bought some time ago, and just got an EyeTV with Toast 8 basic. Is there anything in T8 that I might need, TT 6 seems to work fine. I keep reading that nothing much has changed after version as far as typical burning needs. I know that support for newer formats has been added with the later versions so I am asking is T8 even necessary having TT6?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a Macbook Pro and I had AT&T help me with the settings in OS X so that I can surf the internet with my modem via ethernet. Everything worked fine. Then I installed Windows XP SP3 with Bootcamp and bought a Linksys Wireless N Router. I used the install disk on the PC side to get the router working, assuming that the Mac side would work just fine when it found the network. Now I can connect to the wireless router when I'm in my PC partition, but when I try using my Mac partition. It does not work. (Ethernet works with both) When using other people's wifi connection, I have no problem. Only at my house do I have this connectivity issue.
View 8 Replies View RelatedSupposedly, the new 27" iMac supports 2 side-by-side safari windows perfectly. However, on mine, they overlap by about 3 inches and if I drag the 2nd window to the right, it does not entirely fit without adjusting the width of one or both windows.
Is there a way I can optimize Safari (or the iMac display settings) for the 27" iMac display so that by default each window takes up exactly 50% of the screen width and a new window will sit perfectly side by side?
Is there a way to organize your finder windows automatically like Windows does? By this I mean, tile the windows and/or side by side? I know I can do it manually, but I just would rather have the functionality available.
