Is it possible to somehow capture a screen from iMac 27-inch and while it is used as external display (display for Xbox 360 - I have Kanex XD HDMI converter)?
View 2 RepliesI have searched about it, and it seem some thinks you can, and others say you cant do it.
And then some talks about a converter and others that says its not possible. You can do it with a converter but only in a bad quality, and not in HD.
I am a home theatre enthusiast, and I have setup Plex, Boxee, Netflix, Hulu, Front Row and Etc. The menus and interfaces are absolutely stunning and the customization of them are endless. So now I have this 27in LED iMac with greater than 1080p Resolution and these Apps look great but I want the content to look as good as the menus. Aside from the iTunes pseudo (low frame rate) HD, does anyone have any suggestions of a resource for "stunning" video content to match my beautiful 27in screen. It sure would have been nice to have a Blu Ray option. Hopefully the "bag of hurt" will soon be sitting on my desk killing me with pain.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have a MacBook Pro 13 for portability to my classes at the university and a Dell 2209WA as an external monitor. One of the few good IPS monitors I could find around for cheap.
The monitor works fine in mirror mode with the MacBook Pro, but as an external display only it does not work. It attempts to wake up and then you see power savings mode again and the screen goes black as if there was no connection. Not sure what exactly the problem here is. Drivers?
The monitor works great with a Mac Mini I have and it works great in mirror but not in external display mode(the lid of the MacBook Pro closed). Anybody know of this issue? The cable is good and the MacBook Pro is not that old(a few weeks).
I posted yesterday about my 1.83 17 inch first generation intel iMacs screen dying. If we get an external display, is there a way to make that the main screen?

Since there is obviously no button to push, how exactly do you switch between the iMac and the MacBook Pro displaying on-screen?

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a 27" imac and have been using an apple led cinema display with it. I have had no problems with the display until today. Yesterday I installed windows 7 via bootcamp and had some trouble with the second display being detected but after downloading all of the bootcamp updates it worked fine. Today I restart my computer back into OSX and the display does not work. I tried resetting the PRam or whatever but that didnt do anything. When I go to system preferences > display there is no longer an option to detect display and there are no longer options to change the screen resolution.
I spoke with an apple tech who has me installing an update but I dont think she really knew what was going on and I doubt this will work. When I reboot back into the windows partition the display works during start up and I see the windows logo. So I dont think its a hardware issue (also the display still works fine with my macbook pro). But as soon as startup finishes I get a black screen. Under the control panel windows still recognizes that there is a 2nd display attached and you can still drag items over to the other screen, I just cant see anything. All black.
I just bought the 27in iMac to hook up to my Mac Pro till apple refreshes their ACD. I thought I would be able to use the Mini Displayport to DVI adaptor to connect it to my Mac Pro through DVI and it doesn't work. I know you can do it with mini displayport to mini displayport although, both my mini displayports are currently in use by by 24 ACD.

The machine isn't even a year old yet, so not really happy about it.
I have the apple care protection plan, so suppose if there is something wrong with it hardware wise, then this can be fixed.

It has been very choppy and Safari has been having a lot of problems. I also noticed Spotlight is not working. It doesn't show any results no matter what I type in. When the background changes it is slow and flashes back and forth between images.

View 7 Replies View RelatedMy external display (HP w2207) seems to conflict with my MacBook Pro (15 inch Retina display, early 2013) since I upgraded MacBook OS to 10.9.4.The external display works at initial boot of Mac but does not work after OS sleeps and I attempt to awaken, and while the external display is not waking, the Retina display flashes through different screen views, which only partially reflect my normal screen, or do not reflect my normal screen at all.

I currently own the latest edition of the Macbook Pro 17" that I've fully max'd out for ram after purchasing it. I use Adobe Premier CS4 for editing 1080p and 720p video. The Macbook Pro really can't keep up, making my editing hard to accomplish quickly, especially when rendering a video. It plays the video choppy when editing, which makes editing really hard to accomplish, obviously. It will do it, otherwise, with no problems, other than being slow as molasses when rendering. My question is should I get a IMac 27" fully loaded or a comparable Mac Pro, and what would be the benefits of one or the other for my application/use? I usually have PhotoShop, Premier, Mail, & Chrome open nearly all the time, and I want something that will smoothly play 1080p video when editing the movie and can render the video much quicker than my MBP.

Just wondering if anyone could help me figure this out.
I have my 40" flat screen plugged into my imac via VGA cable to mirror the image.
I'm just trying to have the imac display sleep while I play a movie full screen through the external TV.
I've tried two different ways but both have failed.
1-I set up a hot corner in the imac to sleep display but this results in both the display and the TV sleeping.
2-I just set the power settings to sleep after 1 minute. This works but then If a movie is playing the computer won't go to sleep.

Two updates released Wednesday address issues with the 27-inch big screen iMac, released in October 2009.
"27-inch iMac EFI FW Update 1.0" is recommended for all systems with quad-core Intel Core i5 and Core i7 processors. The update resolves an issue that caused high processor utilization when playing audio through the headphone output, and fixes a problem that prevented the display backlight from turning on after powering on the iMac.
The 2.1MB update is available for download from Apple. It requires Mac OS X 10.6.3 or later.
"27-inch iMac SMC Firmware Update 1.0" fixes Target Display Mode compatibility issues on the 27-inch desktop iMac. The 397KB update also requires Mac OS X 10.6.3 or later.
I just purchased a 23" monitor to replace my iMacs 17" display (since it has a nasty crack in one of the corners). I hooked it up fine and all, but the displays are linked, allowing me to hover the mouse to the iMac's display which I find annoying most of the time.
Is there a way to make the iMac display zone out and just use the external by itself?
I'm looking for a lightweight screen capturing tool: requirements: export at least 720p Screenflow is too sluggish for me.
View 6 Replies View Relatedis there seems to be a major bug in the DVI out drivers, so if you connect your new MacBook or MBP to an external Monitor (Apple Cinema or other make) and then your Mac goes to sleep , you cannot 'wake' the external monitor again - either it stays black or worse you get a sort of snowy, out of signal TV look! You need to unplug your monitor, , then when your Mac is awake, re-plug in the external screen. Report this to Apple guys and post anything you know on it here - sooner they send out a patch to fix it the quicker can get back to normal work!

I did a powerpoint presentation using my MBP (late 2008, OSX 10.6.2 updated yesterday) and a Mini DisplayPort to VGA Adapter. Afterwards, I unplugged the projector, then the adapter and closed the screen without looking.
When I opened the screen, surprise!:
- desktop is empty: background image is visible, but all files & folders are gone
- all running applications are still functioning properly
- clicking on the desktop or dragging a file to the desktop does nothing
- content of desktop is accessible through Finder
- there are no other usernames in the HD>Users folder
I have not tried a reboot, because I heard of similar symptoms (without the mini DisplayPort) being related to username issues and people loosing all their data as a result.
I'm interested in the new iMac but could not work with a glossy display. Can anyone share their experiences of using the iMac with an external display? In one respect it seems like a waste to have two monitors but the base model costs little more than the maxed out Mini and seems like the better option.
I would be interested in seeing photos of any setups featuring the iMac and an external display.
Also, is there a way to turn off the iMac display when using an external display?
I've found that I have a need to take more than screen shots on my machines. I need to be able to record on screen activities so I can add in clips of the desktop and what not to my iMovie files. I have found a not so free program called Snapz Pro which seems to have what I need. I'm more interested in freeware of course, so are there any similar programs to this one?

yesterday i left a file download in firefox for 5 hours then went back to check on it , it was working FINE, Then i got Back after 2 minutes and the screen is suddenly white and not showing anything i shut down the laptop and restarted , there was a chime and just white screen...i connected the laptop to an external monitor AND EVERYTHING IS WORKING on the external screen but the laptop screen is white!
I have a macbook pro from fall of 2007. So far it has worked perfectly and I've used it with an LG full hd LCD for about 1,5 years. I use a regular DVI - HDMI cable.About a month back it suddenly stopped working. The TV just tells me "No signal".I didn't change any settings or anything. The computer still recognizes when something is plugged in as the screen flicks blue and the displays icon in the menu bar lists the TV with correct model and resolution. And if I have spaces turned on it changes from 4 to 8 "screens".
I have tried everything from rebooting the computer to resetting P-RAM.
I got a new cable, no difference. However when I tried the TV with my friends MBP, it worked. So the problem is definetly in my computer, not in the TV or cable.My OS X is Version 10.5.8 Leopard.
I have a mid-2009 Macbook Pro running Lion 10.7.4. Since I upgraded to Lion the external display stopped working altogether. After connecting adapter to laptop the screen on the laptop goes blue for a moment and then returns to normal. However, the external display is never detected.
I searched in forums before sending this message, but most problems I found are related with some glitches of the screen and they seem to be getting some image in the external monitor. In my case... it simply stopped working at all.
