I have an updated Macbook Pro and I cannot get my volume in itunes to work..i get sound on the computer threw youtube so i know the volume works. Its just iTunes.
I have a Mac Pro and not too long ago I swapped from a fat, heavy and filthy white Apple Keyboard to a new skinny silver one. I like it, and also love that the F7-9 Skip Back-Pause/Play-Skip Forward keys work for iTunes, even when another app is active (what's the word I'm looking for - in focus or whatever). But I use Optical output, so the volume keys (F10-12) don't do anything. I know that, when iTunes is the active app, I can command-+/- to change the volume, but I'd love to be able to map the F10-12 keys to do that - without having to have iTunes active (playing, but not the active window).
Today I tried to watch a video on my computer, and there was no sound. So I clicked the volume up button, and it doesn't change the level (there's a small "no" sign, the circle with the line through it, under where the volume level should be). In the menu bar, the volume control is now a light grey and I can't use it. Same with in system preferences. Any ideas on how to get volume to start working again or why it stopped?
I'm a noob to the MBP. Just got it last month and still learning how to use it. Anyways, my volume and brightness button worked a few hours ago, now it doesn't work. When I tried lowering the volume it doesn't work. Then I tried using the play button to start my itunes and that doesn't work either. I don't know what I did wrong. How can I get it back?
It was working fine before i went out tonight, came back, turned it on and my volume keys wont work, it makes the splodge sound but nothing happens! There is also a little white circle with a line through it (like a warning sign on a street) underneath the volume counter. One place said to plug in a headphone jack and take it out straight away, that seemed to fix the same problem with other people but not me!!
For those who have installed the Boot Camp 3.0 drivers does it resolve any of these problems with the 2009 Macbook:Low volume output from speakers, Optical output red light always on, Keyboard backlight won't turn off, Microphone not working, Left speaker louder than right speaker
Other than the ability to access your Mac drive does Boot Camp 3.0 add anything that would make it worth the upgrade?
My volume and brightness (both display and keyboard) buttons stopped working. I deleted front row out of the Applications folder and CoreServices folder. I rebooted and they started working again. Then I went and started streaming a movie on Netflix and now they aren't working. Any ideas?
The volume for my MacBook will only work if my headphones are plugged in. I've tried just about everything I could think of to fix the problem but it's still not working. I've tried blowing it out, wiggling the headphone jack, checking the sound settings from the system preferences. I've come to the conclusion that there is a problem with the sensor, but I wanted to find out if there is anything else I could try before taking it somewhere to get repaired.
I have an iMac G5, running OS 10.5.8, and a new Apple Keyboard with Numeric Keypad. My keyboard volume control does not work. Any have ideas as to why ? (I have a similar set-up at work with no volume problems.)
Info: iMac (20-inch Early 2008), Mac OS X (10.5.8)
i'm having this minor but annoying problem with Firefox. every now any then when I move my mouse over the volume button while I'm watching a Youtube video in order to get the volume bar to pop up, nothing happens. if i click repeatedly on the button and go crazy it will pop up, but it will not let me slide the volume bar up and down. i don't remember having this problem with Safari. it's sort of like the browser isn't recognizing my mouse cursor hovering over the volume area in order for it to trigger the bar to pop up, if that makes any sense.
After destroying my last german wireless keyboard i bought a new one with english characters and now the f11 and f12 keys do not work in regulating the volume up and down. I have the Mac OS X v 10.5.8.
I've got all kinds of issues going on-My p12 key will not work for volume and I also have this black box appear on my screen and won't go away and I have 2 of shut down, restart and logout.
Installed a new bluetooth keyboard today. Now my volume controls and other features on the F1 - F12 Keys do not work.Went into Keyboard Preferences and selected and deselected the [ ] Use All F1, F2, F3 keys as standard function keys. Regardless of the setting, the volume controls do not work. Even when holding down the [Fn] Key. I can adjust volume with the mouse ( new Magic Mouse ) using the control on the menu bar.
The volume is muted, but I can't un-mute it because I am unable to click on any of the sound options because they are all "grayed out". The little box next to mute is checked and I cannot un-check it because it's grayed out. Nothing works when I plug in headphones or speakers or anything, and there is no red light glowing where you plug the headphones or speakers in.
When using the iTunes application to listen to music, watch videos/podcasts, I find that the volume is far too low despite already maxing out the volume adjustments in iTunes. In fact, I can't imagine anyone turning down the volume adjustments to say the middle, as they would not be able to hear much.
Therefore, to compensate, what I always have to do is turn up the speaker volume on my iMac from 4 notch to 8 notch (there are 16 notches in total). The problem now is that the system volume is too loud (since it should be on 4 notches). So I would be listening to the podcast at an acceptable volume and suddenly get loud system sounds blaring out.
All other applications like VLC have reasonable volume. Only iTunes has this problem. Does any one else have this problem? Surely, it can't be just me.
Every so often I have iTunes tell me that it can't save because the volume has changed. In /volumes I see that I have Drobo, Drobo 1, Drobo 2, Drobo 3, Drobo 4, Drobo 5. How can I not have my computer create more of these alias that cause me issues. This also gives me issues with Final Cut Express.
A playlist of iTunes Match songs that was working fine on my Mac (Lion, iTunes 10.6) a couple weeks ago is now playing some songs at very low volume and other songs are distorted (as if they are playing inside a garbage can and the lid is opening and closing ever couple seconds to make a wah-wah distortion) about 1/3 songs are very low volume, another 1/3 are distored, and the rest are fine. A more recent playlist (created after the recent iTunes upgrade is working fine).
More and more I have this issue both during playback on any iMac or Mac mini or even iPOD where as the volume just goes up and comes down. From blasting my ears to a whisper, and all throughout songs from ACDC, Pink Floyd, classical, Samsh Mounth, etc. Most of the songs are in MP3 from my CDs that I ripped through iTunes. I tried AAC and it does the same thing, and AAC will not playback from my Amazon music account, so AAC is a no-go.
Even so I never had issues in the past when ripping my music through other applications, just seems for the last couple of years I have had intermittent issues ripping through iTunes. Any settings or other adjustments I should or should not have made? These are huge fluctuations that vary (on a scale of 0-10) from 2 to 8. Its that bad. All Systems are 10.6 or 10.7 and intel based.

In iTunes 9 i was able to disable the volume control for remote speakers in Airtunes. In iTunes 10 this option has disappeared in Airplay. Is it somewhere else in the menu or have they just threw this option out of iTunes 10. Is there some sort of workaround?
Is it me, or does the slider in iTunes 10 look like a baseball? Not complaining; after all it IS America's pastime. Baseball, not iTunes. (oh, wait iTunes is international. Ah well.)
Lately I've found that when I add artwork to a song (or even change the name of the song), the volume decreases quite noticeably. About halfway through the bar when it is adding the artwork, the volume will permanently go down about 25-30% for the song(s).
My iMac is running 10.5.8. When I play music from within iTunes the volume is far lower than if I use front row (I make no changes to the volume level manually). Is there a setting somewhere I need to change to bring the iTunes level up to the same as the level when using front row? Internal speakers are being used, not external ones.
Ive recently had to re-install Tiger after being told that there was an error in the startup volume. I am far from computer savy so I just basically follow instructions  Sadly, after doing so Ive been experiencing problems with my iPod nano & iTunes. I can sync but the songs put onto my iPod look gray instead of black. And, when I disconnect my iPod says there arent any songs on it. When I look at Music in Finder I noticed that I get a few items listed more than once. I was wondering if this could be the reason for my iPod issues. This is what Im looking at: (all the ones that are bold & underlined have the folder icon next to them)
I got a new Imac last week and updated to Mavericks 10.9.3 and updated iTunes 11.2.2. When I select all podcasts to increase the volume it takes a really long time and crashes saying there isn't enough memory. Is there any way to fix this?Â
Also, if I try to go into Command + R the repair mode it looks like it changed to a reinstallation mode which is what I don't want. Is there another way to run disk permissions or disk repair in Mavericks?

Recently, my newer (last year) iMac probably running 10.5 started speaking and wont shut up... there is no obvious way to turn it off. I usually figure problems out myself but there are no system preferences that effect it. I even changed the voice in preferences as a test and it is still the same guy reading everything clicked in all applications except when I am in system preferences so far. Usually when I run into a dead end like this there is some mystery key command that works... anyone know?I also noticed that some of the top line (f) keys are not doing what they are supposed to any longer as well... volume up opens the window for expose & spaces it looks like and does not control the volume monitor brightness controls are not working either... I went to the key and mouse preferences and set the key strokes to default and still the same.
I have my imac apart right now and replaced the internal HD as it was not working. I assume the problem is the new one is not formatted with OSX, so from the INSTALL CD I opened the disk utility and see only one drive called "MEDIA".? Or is that just part of the install dvd that looks like a HD? In the system it shows as not formatted, 0 bytes. When selected in Partition it says :
"This voume is the startup volume and cannot be erased. Size 7.1 GB The disk is not writable and cannot be partitioned"
So i guess thats not my new HD I am seeing? Other than that there is only the two OSX install CD icons.
I'm trying to install iTunes 9.2.1 but I keep getting a pop-up saying: the destination folder iTunes 9.2.1 is on a locked volume. Please select another destination. I tried getting some help from Apple but couldn't afford their tech support, the only thing they could tell me is I need to look into system security and something about unlocking the computer?
