I'm a noob to the MBP. Just got it last month and still learning how to use it. Anyways, my volume and brightness button worked a few hours ago, now it doesn't work. When I tried lowering the volume it doesn't work. Then I tried using the play button to start my itunes and that doesn't work either. I don't know what I did wrong. How can I get it back?
View 2 Replies View RelatedMy volume and brightness (both display and keyboard) buttons stopped working. I deleted front row out of the Applications folder and CoreServices folder. I rebooted and they started working again. Then I went and started streaming a movie on Netflix and now they aren't working. Any ideas?

I find that my F10 and F11 Keyboard buttons do not function after the firmware update I installed a couple of days ago.

The only way I can control the volume is by using the output volume scroller in system preferences. How can I get the buttons to control volume again?

I have a late 2008 model macbook pro and the resent update to 10.9.3 has made my screen dim, keyboard backlight dim, and volume special functions to stop working?

This has just started happening. If I press the volume buttons they take about 3-4 seconds to respond...if not longer sometimes. Everything else seems to be working even those I'm getting more beach balls than normal. The system is up to date, the issue seems to go away when I restart temporarily.
View 1 Replies View RelatedRelevant hardware: new Mac Pro, aluminum wired full keyboard, external speakers (Line Out). Every now and then, the volume up & down keys (F11 & F12) stop working. (Usually seems to happen upon waking from sleep, but not certain of pattern yet.) The volume keys still make the translucent volume graphic pop up, and they still make that pop-up's slider move up and down, and they make that feedback/confirmation "blip" sound grow louder or softer. But, this has no effect on the actual volume (except if I move it all the way down to Mute; that works).
I can only change volume with the mouse -- in the menu bar or in System Preferences. The keyboard volume buttons have no effect on those sliders, when this problem arises. All the other F-keys continue to work properly, so it's not a general keyboard or F-key issue. Only volume up/down. If I restart the computer, the problem is fixed. And I just noticed that if I go into System Preferences and change the Output to "Built-In" and then back to "Line Out," that fixed the problem too. At least, for now.
I was downloading Front Row when I realized it was just the update, not the actual Front Row. So, I deleted it and got the pinwheel of death. Next thing I know my clock and bluetooth/volume buttons on the top right are gone! Already tried going through system pref.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI use MBP Snow Leopard 10.6.2 and use both Safari 4.0.4 and Chrome for browsing, and it is increasingly happening (on both browsers) that I need to click outside the active window (i.e. go to the menu bar and click on it, anywhere on it, to be able to press a link or a new tab buttons inside the open window). If I don't do that the active window buttons or links do not work, they depress or shade or do whatever, but do not actually do the function.

my 4 year old daughter got a hold of my macbook and was hammering away at the buttons. Within moments all of the color as been skewed (for all programs). It's like she created (or turned on) some weird viewing style for the mac. I pull up pictures and they are all translucent. I know I'm not giving you much but hoping someone can work with me to try and fix this.
Example: anything that was white before (within a window let's say) is now black. All of the little buttons at the top left to minimize or close windows have changed from red, yellow, red to green, blue, purple.
Water spilled on the right side of my keyboard, but everything worked fine right after. However a day later the Delete, Eject and Volume buttons stop working. I took off the keys and cleaned underneath with a Qtip. still not working.

I recently purchased a new keyboard. It seems that the top keys will not work even when enabled. Is this because I am running OS X10.5.8 and the minimum is 10.6.8?

The play/pause and skip/rewind buttons on my keyboard are not working with the latest version of iTunes (11.3.1). I've read about fixes related to the Google Chrome extension, but I don't have that extension. I noticed that the buttons work with Spotify but not with iTunes. When I test the buttons on iTunes, I make sure that Spotify is completely closed. The play/pause function is especially important to me, as I use it to transcribe interviews quickly.

The volume for my MacBook will only work if my headphones are plugged in. I've tried just about everything I could think of to fix the problem but it's still not working. I've tried blowing it out, wiggling the headphone jack, checking the sound settings from the system preferences. I've come to the conclusion that there is a problem with the sensor, but I wanted to find out if there is anything else I could try before taking it somewhere to get repaired.

The volume is muted, but I can't un-mute it because I am unable to click on any of the sound options because they are all "grayed out". The little box next to mute is checked and I cannot un-check it because it's grayed out. Nothing works when I plug in headphones or speakers or anything, and there is no red light glowing where you plug the headphones or speakers in.

Does anyone know or have the same problem where pressing the F7, F8, F9 keys (which are previous, stop/pause, and forward) doesn't work in iTunes unless iTunes is the "active" window? I know that in OS X that if i pressed those buttons, it would do it even if I was in another application, but in the Windows 7 version it won't do it if another application is "active." Also, the same applies to the Apple Remote.
View 2 Replies View RelatedToday I tried to watch a video on my computer, and there was no sound. So I clicked the volume up button, and it doesn't change the level (there's a small "no" sign, the circle with the line through it, under where the volume level should be). In the menu bar, the volume control is now a light grey and I can't use it. Same with in system preferences. Any ideas on how to get volume to start working again or why it stopped?

It was working fine before i went out tonight, came back, turned it on and my volume keys wont work, it makes the splodge sound but nothing happens! There is also a little white circle with a line through it (like a warning sign on a street) underneath the volume counter. One place said to plug in a headphone jack and take it out straight away, that seemed to fix the same problem with other people but not me!!

Other than the ability to access your Mac drive does Boot Camp 3.0 add anything that would make it worth the upgrade?
