View 1 RepliesCould I get some feedback on what the community feels is the better of these two programs and why. I want to run Win 7 and have been trying Virtual Box and it's just not working out for me.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI am tempted to purchase 2nd hand 13.3" MacBook Pro 2.26GHz, 2gb ram, 160gb hdd.
I have a need to run windows as a virtual machine for some occasional .NET development (which I am studying)
I have a couple of questions
What is the impact of battery life running a VM? I intended to run it in Unity mode and only have open .net tools such as visual web developer.
Also, does anybody know the performance of windows 7 in the new Fusion version? (What's aero like?)
Would the performance of an XP vm be better?
I tried searching around and there are many threads regarding parallel vs fusion but my question is if either or both could run Win 7 64 bit. I read that Parallel is somewhat faster than fusion.
View 8 Replies View RelatedWhen I boot Fusion with MacAffee I get a message that there is an updated version of Fusion is ready for download. When I go to the site I'm offered a choice of just Fusion or Fusion with MacAffee. Since the boot message only talks about Fusion should I do the only Fusion download. Or should I get the combined one?
View 1 Replies View Relatedam new to the Mac world and just bought the Macbook Pro 13" 2.4GHz. I desperately need to run some Windows applications on the new Mac. Apart from knowing that Bootcamp can only run Windows or Mac at a time and Parallel allows switch between Windows and Mac, can anyone help me to decide which option I should go for please? In particular
View 4 Replies View RelatedI just recently got parallels, and someone else set it up for me. The guy only put 8gb on it, and i really need more. I don't wanna deal with expanding and stuff because its too much trouble for something that I have nothing on anyway. Im wondering how to delete the image file, and then create a new partition. And also, if creating a new partition needs the windows cd again, because i don't have it anymore

Here are the specs of my macbook.

This really isn't a bad thing, on my iMac i5 with a the stock configuration configured with 2 cores and 3GB of RAM on Windows 7 Profession 32-bit, my VM boots in 2 seconds; the boot is so fast that it displays the Vista-like scroll instead of the 7 splash screen during boot. Basically I'm curious what's going on here? I'd like to do the same on Mac Pro which takes about a full minute for Windows to load up. The drives on my a Mac Pro about 5x faster than the iMac and I have a 4 processors and 4GB of RAM allocated to Windows... Both are running Parallels 5 for VM and both uses 64GB for the virtual disk.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI just bought a MacBook Pro and while I love somethings about it, I miss being able to use some windows functions. What are the problems with adding Windows to it? I have time to return it and go back to a PC but I think if it had the other operating system as well I would love it..seems like a lot of money though to keep it if I am running windows on it..

View 6 Replies View RelatedSo my problem is i installed Parallel Desktop, installed windows 7, 64bit and after i installed Lineage 2 (a game that uses Direct3D) i get an error running the game, were it says i need to enable Direct3D in the DxDiag - but when i run the DxDiag it just tell me that info is not available, so there is nowere i can enable Direct3D :/ I have been googling the issue, but i havent been able to find a solution on how to use/enable Direct3D. However the graphic card i have in my MacBook pro is called Nvidia Geforce GT 330M and does support Direct3D so it must be something that happens because of the mac cross to windows 7 thingy. Also i have been trying to installe the latest drivers from Nvidias website, but i also get an error when i try to install them, saying it cant verufy my hardware - so it must be something about windows not beeing able to detect what kind of graphic card i use cause its on a mac system?? Another thing i notcied was in DxDiag i saw under memory, it only see 1 GB of memory and i have 4 GB available not that it changes anything
My setup:
MacBookPro 2010 model
Core i7 intel processor 2.6 Ghz
4gb memory
Nvidia Geforce GT 330M
I'm running Parallels Desktop 4.0 for Mac on Mac OSX 10.4.11. For my Mac, I have one administrator account, and two managed user accounts. My son uses one of the managed user accounts to run Parallels. The issue is that I don't want Parallels to be able to access the internet (more specifically, I don't want my son to be able to use Parallels/windows to access the internet). I know I can turn off the internet in Parallels through the Parallels configuration settings, but it can just be turned right back on. There is no password protection to ensure that the settings aren't changed. Or am I missing something? Is there an administrative password that I can enable to prevent tampering with the Parallels configuration settings?

View 4 Replies View RelatedWhenever I install Parallel on my imac, with leopard it installs fine and the windows Xp install fine and load up fine. But my problem is whenever I shut my mac down, and when I have to turn my mac on again and i click on Parallel the windows will not load up, only loads up when the windows has just been installed, i have no idea why it wont load once i shut down and turn on my imac?
I have installed windows like 5 times already and it always works once it just been installed but if i have to restart my mac, or switch it off and turn it on again the windows through Parallel will not load it just says ''Microsoft windows xp stopped'' and doesn't load atol.
Any best way to have windows apps working on my 2012 macbook pro? Is it best to use bootcamp or parallel 7 software?

View 1 Replies View Related I recently installed 64-bit Vista in a Boot Camp partition. Then Parallels and everything is perfect except...
When I insert a DVD now, Windows automatically takes control of the drive. The only way for me to view the contents of that drive is to shut down Vista in Parallels and then reinsert the disk. Then OS X sees it and fires it up.
Now Ive plugged in other devices like my external drive, and I get a little pop up which asks which system I want to use the device with. Is there a way to get that for DVDs as well?
I made an image of my Windows XP laptop drive using Macrium. I can see the image file there on one of my Mac Pro's internal drives, but Im not able to select in Fusion.. View 9 Replies View RelatedLast night I installed VMWare Fusion and Windows 7 on my Unibody MBP running SL. When I use Fusion, my computer slows to a crawl. I spent a few hours getting Windows set up and installing software last night.
I would like to try using Boot Camp instead, but do not want to lose all of the software and files that I have installed. Is it possible to set up Boot Camp, and keep the same Windows setup?
I'm having pretty bad difficulties with Windows 7 and Parallels Desktop. I know it's not supported yet, but some folk have it working. I can boot up, but I can't install Parallels Tools. I changed the Configuration to "Windows 2008 Server" like someone suggested in another forum, but fails to boot up.
Seems like VMWare are offering a better helping hand than Parallels Desktop - and while it is not supported yet by them, they say that if you use Windows 2008 Server Config everything works apart from sound.
So am I best giving it a bash with VMWare's Fusion? 30-day trial for free. But I'd rather try get Parallels working since I paid for it.
i just installed windows 7 on my mac last night over my vista partition, but now my avg firewall was disabled to i had to reinstall avg, got that fixed, but my next problem is vmware fusion. it just doesnt work, it boots into windows 7 but then i get the blue error screen saying something like windows has shutdown due to a blah blah blah...anyway i need this fixed right away, do u guys know how to fix it or know any alternatives besides parallels?
