Windows On Mac :: Parallel Desktop - Enable Direct3D?
Oct 23, 2010
So my problem is i installed Parallel Desktop, installed windows 7, 64bit and after i installed Lineage 2 (a game that uses Direct3D) i get an error running the game, were it says i need to enable Direct3D in the DxDiag - but when i run the DxDiag it just tell me that info is not available, so there is nowere i can enable Direct3D :/ I have been googling the issue, but i havent been able to find a solution on how to use/enable Direct3D. However the graphic card i have in my MacBook pro is called Nvidia Geforce GT 330M and does support Direct3D so it must be something that happens because of the mac cross to windows 7 thingy. Also i have been trying to installe the latest drivers from Nvidias website, but i also get an error when i try to install them, saying it cant verufy my hardware - so it must be something about windows not beeing able to detect what kind of graphic card i use cause its on a mac system?? Another thing i notcied was in DxDiag i saw under memory, it only see 1 GB of memory and i have 4 GB available not that it changes anything
My setup:
MacBookPro 2010 model
Core i7 intel processor 2.6 Ghz
4gb memory
Nvidia Geforce GT 330M
I wanna install Windows 7 Ultimate with Parallel Desktop 5, but I have some problems. I don't know if I should install it as x86 or x64 or 32-bit or 64-bit? And also, how many GB ram should I be using for Parallels? I have the basic MBP 13" early 2010.
I have MBP 17' early 2011. Need to use SSD for better performance. Just wondering, Will it effect my Parallel desktop Win 7?. Do I need to reinstall windows even if I clone current HDD ?
I installed Wnidows 7 using boot camp and it is working fine. Now if I install Parallel destop 5.0, do I have reinstall Windows 7 all over again or is there a way that I can use the existing partition by boot camp without having to create a new virtual machine by Parallel desktop ?
i'm trying to install the window xp onto my mac using either boot camp or parallel desktop. tried doing it myself, but somehow it just won't work. i was hoping someone would giv me some pointers on how to make this work. one more thing, my window xp is a downloaded version.
I have a problem about sound. It's no output or input device when I install parallel desktop 7. Is there any way that can solve this issue without uninstalling Parallel Desktop?
I have two Virtual Machines running on my MacbookPro. One is Windows and the other is Ubuntu. The Windows 7 system is running perfectly well but the Ubuntu VM has got issues with dragging/dropping files from Mac to Ubuntu and vice versa. When I checked on the Parallel Desktop's forum, the only solution provided was that the Parallel Desktop's tool should be uninstalled and reinstalled; which I have done. But that didn't solve the problem. The Configuration menu "Virtual Machine" offered checkboxes for the (Copy & Paste) section, and I can confirm that both boxes for 'Share Mac Cipboard' and 'Preserve Text Formatting' are checked. That should have solved the copy/paste problem but didn't.
am new to the Mac world and just bought the Macbook Pro 13" 2.4GHz. I desperately need to run some Windows applications on the new Mac. Apart from knowing that Bootcamp can only run Windows or Mac at a time and Parallel allows switch between Windows and Mac, can anyone help me to decide which option I should go for please? In particular
I just recently got parallels, and someone else set it up for me. The guy only put 8gb on it, and i really need more. I don't wanna deal with expanding and stuff because its too much trouble for something that I have nothing on anyway. Im wondering how to delete the image file, and then create a new partition. And also, if creating a new partition needs the windows cd again, because i don't have it anymore
I had a brainfart earlier, and cleaned my keyboard while my computer was in standby instead of turned off. The result is that by wiping off the keyboard, I hit a ton of keys, causing a lot of bad things to happen to the desktop.
I'm having some problems with my parallel every time I run windows virtual machine all my mac goes really slow I would like to know how to fix this slowliness haha, I don't know if my mac is the one that don't have the power to run both side by side at a descent speed, or maybe some configurations of the virtual machine i could change to make it run faster?? Here are the specs of my macbook.
Model Name:MacBook Processor Name:Intel Core 2 Duo Processor Speed:2.2 GHz Number Of Processors:1 Total Number Of Cores:2 L2 Cache:4 MB Memory:1 GB Bus Speed:800 MHz
This really isn't a bad thing, on my iMac i5 with a the stock configuration configured with 2 cores and 3GB of RAM on Windows 7 Profession 32-bit, my VM boots in 2 seconds; the boot is so fast that it displays the Vista-like scroll instead of the 7 splash screen during boot. Basically I'm curious what's going on here? I'd like to do the same on Mac Pro which takes about a full minute for Windows to load up. The drives on my a Mac Pro about 5x faster than the iMac and I have a 4 processors and 4GB of RAM allocated to Windows... Both are running Parallels 5 for VM and both uses 64GB for the virtual disk.
I have windows 7 now installed, but I also have a my old Windows XP Pro as well. I'm curious if I can look it as well? I'd like to see if i can and to compare running cod5 on it.
Can a virtual machine be able to access the partition with windows on it? So you can either boot up from the partitioned windows via bootcamp OR access that same partitioned windows through parallels for quick access while on OSX?
I just bought a MacBook Pro and while I love somethings about it, I miss being able to use some windows functions. What are the problems with adding Windows to it? I have time to return it and go back to a PC but I think if it had the other operating system as well I would love it..seems like a lot of money though to keep it if I am running windows on it..
Do I need anti virus software on windows that i am running in Parallel on Mac? Could I get a virus on windows xp that I am running on the application 'Parallels' on my Mac?
I'm running Parallels Desktop 4.0 for Mac on Mac OSX 10.4.11. For my Mac, I have one administrator account, and two managed user accounts. My son uses one of the managed user accounts to run Parallels. The issue is that I don't want Parallels to be able to access the internet (more specifically, I don't want my son to be able to use Parallels/windows to access the internet). I know I can turn off the internet in Parallels through the Parallels configuration settings, but it can just be turned right back on. There is no password protection to ensure that the settings aren't changed. Or am I missing something? Is there an administrative password that I can enable to prevent tampering with the Parallels configuration settings?
Could I get some feedback on what the community feels is the better of these two programs and why. I want to run Win 7 and have been trying Virtual Box and it's just not working out for me.
Whenever I install Parallel on my imac, with leopard it installs fine and the windows Xp install fine and load up fine. But my problem is whenever I shut my mac down, and when I have to turn my mac on again and i click on Parallel the windows will not load up, only loads up when the windows has just been installed, i have no idea why it wont load once i shut down and turn on my imac?
I have installed windows like 5 times already and it always works once it just been installed but if i have to restart my mac, or switch it off and turn it on again the windows through Parallel will not load it just says ''Microsoft windows xp stopped'' and doesn't load atol.
I read on a another thread that Parallels has Parallels Bootcamp which allows me to install Parallels using only one Windows license. Would this work also with the OEM version of windows as well? Or is the full version of windows needed too?
My MacBook is not connecting to the host computer for the printer. The host computer has a static IP address which is different from the IP address that the laptop is looking for. How do I change the laptop so that it looks for the host computer's correct IP? The laptop is connected to the router. I know this because I can get on the internet with the laptop.
i ve got the parallel 5 on the new imac and loaded windows 7 from bootcamp, however the start time of windows 7 is extremely slow -- takes up to 5 minutes.... and the speed of launching application is not fast as well... sometimes even jammed the imac, ive then given them 4 cores with 4gb of ram (out of 8) and still nothing changes...
