I tried searching around and there are many threads regarding parallel vs fusion but my question is if either or both could run Win 7 64 bit. I read that Parallel is somewhat faster than fusion.

I have checked OS 10.6.4 in the Preferences start up disc to no avail. When I shut down Parallel, it states "Windows is running, do you want to shut down? What do I do to start up in the Mac enviroment again?

View 7 Replies View RelatedI have a Mac Pro 2009 2.66 quad with ATi3870 and 6 gigs of ram. I used to run a boot camp Win7 RC partition with first Fusion 2 and then 3. It worked fine. Now I bought Win7 Ultimate and I'm getting ****** graphics performance in Fusion. The screen updates slowly. When I move a window there's noticable tearing. Fade effects don't really show fade but a few fading frames of the animation.

It's really cheap and I think it's worth it since I (unfortunately) use Windows (Vmware Fusion) everyday to work (.NET developer). But I would like to play some games as well, but I know Fusion is not the best solution. Can I buy only one Win7 license and install in the same machine twice? One on a Bootcamp partition and another on a Fusion VM? Will I have problems activating both copies?

I can run Win7 perfectly in VMWare Fusion, but I can't Bootcamp into Win7 (my MBP will just reboot without ever getting to a Win load screen). I previously had Vista installed and could do both without any issues. I know that Apple hasn't yet released an update to Bootcamp, but I was under the impression that this had more to do with smaller items (sound, trackpad performance, temp management) than it did with outright catastrophic fail.

Fusion fails to preprocess the bootcamp partion... and it fails to start.
Any suggestions on how to get this working?
I have the edu version of Windows 7 64 bit home. I'm using Fusion 3 and am trying to install Windows 7 as a new machine. I'm running from the ISO Win 7 file that I dl'd from here, which is 5.43 gb in size.
When I start the new machine process, it begins the installation but then hangs with the following error message: A required CD/DVD drive device driver is missing. If you have a driver floppy disk, CD, DVD, or USB flash drive, please insert it now. If the Windows installation media is in the CD/DVD drive, you can safely remove it for this step.
I just got a i7 15" mbp! I definately have to have bootcamp to run my school's testing software, but i want have parallels run the boot camp partition without me making another VM. I would hate to have double loss of space, but I also want to make sure I can use it on both sides that doesn't mess it up!
I had a mac a long time ago and i got it to read the boot camp with parallel but it then corrupted my bootcamp and I've had double images (waste of space since i am now limited to my ssd size too!!).
Does VMWare fusion 3 do this better? before i do it, i want to make sure it's bug free and does not mess up either side!
I have decided to manage two iTunes libraries on a single user account by using the old "option key on launch" trick; one on my Macbook's HD and another on an external HD. However, is it possible to view and access both of the libraries in parallel, or at least switch quickly between them without having to quit iTunes and launch it again?

When I go to the site I'm offered a choice of just Fusion or Fusion with MacAffee. Since the boot message only talks about Fusion should I do the only Fusion download. According to some press documentation, Fusion is supposed to work a lot faster in 64 bit mode. Any ideas how to get Fusion to work in 64 bit mode? Reinstall it?

When running the VM (Fusion 3.1, running Win7 Home ed. 2GB RAM, no 3D, 1 CPU) on my 2010 MBP (Core i5, 4GB) I get quite a lot of beachballing in the OS X part, as well as general slowdown. Looks like there is very little RAM available (40MB free)
I have a DVD for my physics class that only can be opened in Windows for whatever reason (I also have a game I want to use). OS X recognizes it, but when I boot into Windows 7 (RTM Build 7600) in VMware Fusion, I see no sign of it.
How do I open it?
Running Fusion on my 2+ year old MBP has become a near hopeless frustration. When I first got the machine, it ran pretty well, but it hasn't for quite awhile now. It tends to be sluggish to the point of uselessness. Currently, I'm doing a trial of Fusion 3. I'm a licensed owner of the prior versions.
I don't need it much, but when I do, I really need it. I gave up on using it with Windows 7, which is fine, XP will do. Once in awhile, I'll run it and all will be well. Other times, most of the time, it's unusable. I see no pattern to what makes it run well or not. Earlier today, I rebooted and started Fusion all by itself and didn't run anything else. Didn't help much.
Anyone had these problems and found a solution? I see lots of people with problems and plenty of others without. But not many who've bridged the gap.
Anyone tried to boot the Windows 7 XP Mode withi Parallels or VM Ware Fusion? Would be interesting to know if that works?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI just moved over to Fusion from Parallels. I've installed Windows 7 64-bit and everything appears fine. However, when I go to switch from NAT to bridged networking I lose my Internet and local network connection.
Windows reports the network as "public" and throws up an exclamation point which says no Internet or local network.
Once you click on the network icon and look at the network adapter it shows that the adapter has an IP address from my Apple AirPort Router, but no default gateway.
Windows 7 diagnostics reports that it can't find the default gateway. However, if I manually set the default gateway (which I'm assuming is my router at 10.0.1.1) in the advanced network settings it doesn't take and just disappears after clicking OK.
I've also tried manually setting a static IP address in network settings within Windows 7, and like before it accepts the IP address but then Windows 7 diagnostics reports there's no DHCP server.
On the Airport Router side, I can go into logs and statistics and see that VMWare has obtained an IP address.
Both Windows and OS X's firewalls are off. I've tried reinstalling VMWare Tools and Fusion 3.0. I've deleted and reinstalled the network adapter (in Fusion) over and over.
In Parallels, if you used bridged networking Parallels would put two new "connections" inside your Network system preference. I noticed Fusion doesn't do that.
I don't know what else to try. I've read their support forums and bridged networking documents, but nothing appears to stand out. Everything works fine with NAT.
I am having trouble booting up my windows 7 bootcamp, whenever i try to bootup it would give me some screen right after the windows logo and it'll say to repair or somthing, is this a common problem?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a Windows 7 computer and a Mac running Show Leopard on the same network. On my mac I can see the Windows machine and be able to see and play music off of that computer. The Windows machine does not show the mac at all.
I've reinstalled iTunes on Windows multiple times, turned on and off my firewall and antivirus programs and nothing seems to work.
Any ideas from the crowd? I have an Airport Extreme router too. Any settings on the router that I should be looking at?

Moving files from Windows XP/VMware Fusion to a destination on the Mac OS side is as easy as dragging files over to Finder and dropping them when the Finder window becomes active. However, I haven't been able to do the reverse operation.
There's got to be an easy way to move files from the Mac side over to XP/VMware.. But I might lose my mind before I discover it.

I can either select okay or after several windows (pop ups) have appeared, they will disappear again seconds later of themselves.I select allow each time. I've removed and re added VMWare Fusion on the list of allowed apps in the OSX Security Advanced Firewall panel.

View 1 Replies View RelatedBefore I installed Parallels 5, I had a 2.4ghz 13" MBP w/ 4GB RAM that was dual-booting Windows XP. I then installed Parallels, and instead of installing an OS from a CD (I have Win7 fresh install CD), I decided to instead install Windows XP onto my VM from Bootcamp since my specs aren't as fast and I heard Win7 may lag a bit more than XP.
My question is, in the future if I want to install Win7, what would happen in these 2 scenarios:
1. I install Win7 onto my bootcamp partition (would my parallels copy of windows become corrupt/unusable?)
2. I install Win7 onto VM via Parallels
I just uninstalled VMware Fusion from my MBP. However, I don't seem to see that the 40GB I dedicated to the Windows 7 I installed is freed. Please, how do I do that? I need the 40GB to make my already slow 160GB 13'' MBP faster!
