Can a virtual machine be able to access the partition with windows on it? So you can either boot up from the partitioned windows via bootcamp OR access that same partitioned windows through parallels for quick access while on OSX?

I definately have to have bootcamp to run my school's testing software, but i want have parallels run the boot camp partition without me making another VM. I would hate to have double loss of space, but I also want to make sure I can use it on both sides that doesn't mess it up!
I had a mac a long time ago and i got it to read the boot camp with parallel but it then corrupted my bootcamp and I've had double images (waste of space since i am now limited to my ssd size too!!).
Does VMWare fusion 3 do this better? before i do it, i want to make sure it's bug free and does not mess up either side!
I just recently got parallels, and someone else set it up for me. The guy only put 8gb on it, and i really need more. I don't wanna deal with expanding and stuff because its too much trouble for something that I have nothing on anyway. Im wondering how to delete the image file, and then create a new partition. And also, if creating a new partition needs the windows cd again, because i don't have it anymore

View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm having some problems with my parallel every time I run windows virtual machine all my mac goes really slow I would like to know how to fix this slowliness haha, I don't know if my mac is the one that don't have the power to run both side by side at a descent speed, or maybe some configurations of the virtual machine i could change to make it run faster?? This really isn't a bad thing, on my iMac i5 with a the stock configuration configured with 2 cores and 3GB of RAM on Windows 7 Profession 32-bit, my VM boots in 2 seconds; the boot is so fast that it displays the Vista-like scroll instead of the 7 splash screen during boot. Basically I'm curious what's going on here? I'd like to do the same on Mac Pro which takes about a full minute for Windows to load up. The drives on my a Mac Pro about 5x faster than the iMac and I have a 4 processors and 4GB of RAM allocated to Windows... Both are running Parallels 5 for VM and both uses 64GB for the virtual disk.

View 6 Replies View RelatedSo my problem is i installed Parallel Desktop, installed windows 7, 64bit and after i installed Lineage 2 (a game that uses Direct3D) i get an error running the game, were it says i need to enable Direct3D in the DxDiag - but when i run the DxDiag it just tell me that info is not available, so there is nowere i can enable Direct3D :/ I have been googling the issue, but i havent been able to find a solution on how to use/enable Direct3D. However the graphic card i have in my MacBook pro is called Nvidia Geforce GT 330M and does support Direct3D so it must be something that happens because of the mac cross to windows 7 thingy. Also i have been trying to installe the latest drivers from Nvidias website, but i also get an error when i try to install them, saying it cant verufy my hardware - so it must be something about windows not beeing able to detect what kind of graphic card i use cause its on a mac system?? Another thing i notcied was in DxDiag i saw under memory, it only see 1 GB of memory and i have 4 GB available not that it changes anything

I'm running Parallels Desktop 4.0 for Mac on Mac OSX 10.4.11. For my Mac, I have one administrator account, and two managed user accounts. My son uses one of the managed user accounts to run Parallels.The issue is that I don't want Parallels to be able to access the internet (more specifically, I don't want my son to be able to use Parallels/windows to access the internet). I know I can turn off the internet in Parallels through the Parallels configuration settings, but it can just be turned right back on. There is no password protection to ensure that the settings aren't changed. Or am I missing something? Is there an administrative password that I can enable to prevent tampering with the Parallels configuration settings?

But my problem is whenever I shut my mac down, and when I have to turn my mac on again and i click on Parallel the windows will not load up, only loads up when the windows has just been installed, i have no idea why it wont load once i shut down and turn on my imac?

When I insert a DVD now, Windows automatically takes control of the drive. The only way for me to view the contents of that drive is to shut down Vista in Parallels and then reinsert the disk. Then OS X sees it and fires it up.
Now Ive plugged in other devices like my external drive, and I get a little pop up which asks which system I want to use the device with. Is there a way to get that for DVDs as well?
I start a new job next week, and I will be doing a professional qualification alongside it. I have work to cover before I start, the information is all on a website. It specifies that you need windows and internet explorer to access the information. I can log in, but when I try to load the information, a new window opens, but the literature doesn't load. It works on a windows PC at the internet cafe however.
Does anyone have any ideas about how I could access the information, I have already tried changing the user agent on safari to internet explorer which hasn't helped. Anything I can do short of parallels?!
I've been struggling all week trying to share a drive out from a mac and mount it remotely onto a windows 7 machine. Also I haven't been able to see any of my macs in the network in windows explorer on the windows 7 machine.
I found this somewhere else on the web so can't take the credit, but it works for me and I can see my whole network, macs, windows and shared folders from either, all on windows 7 now.
I have a network consisting of three Macs and a PC running Windows XP. One of my printers (a Canon Pixma MP830) is USB-connected to one of the Macs with sharing turned on. Thus, I am able to print to this device from any of the Macs. How can I access this shared printer from the Windows device? I can't determine an IP address because the printer doesn't have one.
View 3 Replies View RelatedWe have a client who has a MAC Mini running OS X. System is not booting into the OS, its freezing up during boot process. Data on the hard drive is critical to the user.
- The hardware utility on the OS X install cd says there's no problems, but when removed from the mini, connected to a PC, and tested using bootable cd IBM Drive Fitness Test and Seagate Seatools, the drive fails both tests.
- The drive has been connected to our data transfer system (running Windows XP) and unsurprisingly XP sees the drive in disk managment, but doesn't see the partition in Explorer.
- Research online led us to HFSExplorer, which dies see the MAC partition and file tree. But any attempt to extract files results in a Java runtime error saying that the source cannot be accessed. Once this error is received, HFSExplorer crashes and must be relaunched, and will not detect the MAC partition again until the computer is hard shutdown and restarted. THe physical drive vanishes from disk managment when the error occurs also.
- Further research led us to MacDrive, which mounts the drive (after reporting that it detected an error and asking if we still want to mount). We can again browse the file tree, but as soon as we attempt to copy anything, it fails and the explorer window with the MAC partiton vanishes. Again, the system must be hard restarted in order to restore access to the partition.
- Found a repair utility in the MACDrive program. Running that results in the error "80070002: The system cannont find the file specified."
- I'm out of ideas at this point. Anyone have any advice? As I said, the drive contains data critical to the client.
