Windows On Mac :: "System" Is Taking 60% Cpu?

May 3, 2009

I have a first gen intel macbook white running XP sp3 in dual boot.

for some reason "system" not "system idle process" is using constant 60% of the cpu.

If i go into leopard and back into windows it'll fix it for a while but then later it'll screw up again and "system" will start using a lot of cpu. (restarting windows doens't fix it, i have to go into leopard and then windows).

has anyone seen this issue before or have any ideas

MacBook Pro :: What To Do About HD When Taking System For Service

Feb 19, 2010

My 13'' MBP is starting to act up and it's time to take it in for service. The display is not living up to expectation, but worse are issues waking up from sleep and unexplainable pinwheeling (during low cpu/memory/disk usage periods, etc)Anyway, based on previous experience with apple, i suspect they'll resort to the catchall new logic board solution they usually go to. My concern is that I've upgraded my HDD to a 500GB WD. Usually I would drop the stock 250 in there for the purpose of having it serviced and just put my 500 back when I got the machine back. The issue now is that the 250 is being used in another machine, and this would be a giant headache.

Mac Pro :: Disk Scratched - System Taking Longer To Rip CDs

Jun 1, 2010

I have a brand new 15 inch i5 mbp. I put a cd in to rip it onto itunes. It was really scratched. Now the computer ate my disc (I know I can restart and it will be ok, that's not my question). Shouldn't my brand new mbp be able to cope with a scratched disc? It seems a bit bizarre that the entire computer would freeze just because a disc is scratched. Also, it seems like it takes much longer to rip cds than it does on my pc. It doesn't just seem like it. It takes almost twice as long.

MacBook Air :: Is Running Out Of Space - System Taking 60 GB?

Sep 4, 2014

My wife's 128GB MBA is running out of space so we are trying to identify the culprits by using the marvelous Daisy Disk.

Her user account is taking up 43 GB (mainly music and photos) but the total for the HD is 103 GB. Does that sound right - that the system and other stuff (although not sure what that would be) takes up 60GB?

MacBook :: System Taking Long To Load User Profile Login

Mar 28, 2010

My Macbook has been running pretty slowly recently but only at log in. Its been taking ages to load my name at the top of if you try anything before is loaded my user profile I guess it just crashed. Also every now and again the wallpaper doesnt load up. Anyway to fix this is booted into safe-mode, verified the disk and repaired the permission. My work insists I use McAfee enterprise edition for Mac if connecting their servers so I am also protected from viruses and mal-ware. Its just got worse. And stranger still Safari still loads but thats all. Any other program will bounce a few times and then do nothing. Even mail, pages, dreamweaver, terminal, settings - everything. Safari is the only working program I have found that actually still loads. The internet connection works find and everything else. McAfee is sitting in my status bar so I am guessing that has also loaded properly.

Windows On Mac :: Newly Installed 7 Taking Up Too Much Space?

Nov 12, 2010

So I just installed windows 7 x64 (bootcamp) on my iMac 27" mid 2010.

It seems to be taking up 11 GB more than there really is on the partition.

Partition size: 33 GB
Used space: 22 GB (in reality 11 GB)
Free space: 11 GB (in reality 22 GB)

I know for a fact that a newly installed windows 7 is not this huge.

Also I selected all the folders and checked the size and it simply doesn't match what the Drive Properties tells me.

Windows On Mac :: Checkdisk Taking Very Long Time On MBP

Jul 2, 2009

I tried running a chkdsk /f /r on my late 2008 MBP yesterday. Started around 18:30, it was still running this morning and had only got to stage 4 of 5 and was on 18%, that's over 12 hours! I'm running Windows 7 64bit RC, and the partition size is 84 GB. My desktop computer on the same o/s and a 150 GB partition, took about 45-50 mins to complete this on the weekend, and I was wondering if any other MBP users had run a full checkdisk and how long it takes on their machines?

Windows On Mac :: Vista 32 In Boot Camp Taking Long To Start

Feb 2, 2009

I've had a Vista 32 PC and it booted pretty fast. I now have a fully loaded iMac (newest one available) and Vista takes abnormally long to start. OS X boots very fast, and once Vista is loaded, it runs normal, no problems. I'm just wondering if there is a way to reduce the boot time, and why it would take longer to boot on this more powerful computer than my last generic PC, or if that's just a drawback of boot camp.

Windows On Mac :: Vista Taking Control Of Super Drive While Parallel?

Apr 16, 2009

I recently installed 64-bit Vista in a Boot Camp partition. Then Parallels and everything is perfect except...

When I insert a DVD now, Windows automatically takes control of the drive. The only way for me to view the contents of that drive is to shut down Vista in Parallels and then reinsert the disk. Then OS X sees it and fires it up.

Now Ive plugged in other devices like my external drive, and I get a little pop up which asks which system I want to use the device with. Is there a way to get that for DVDs as well?

Windows On Mac :: Parallels Windows And 2GB On Same System

Mar 16, 2009

memory, the reasons for why I'm planning an upgrade is because of the Parallels. The start up of Windows is not as fast as I want as it blocks all others application for a couple of moments, then it works pretty well on programs that dont require much memory. If it would make a significant difference I would upgrade to 4GB.The problem: I believe my Mac has 2*1GB memories, making it hard to upgrade to lets say 4GB, even if I buy a 2GB, (hope its working mounting different sizes in the the slots), still makes me sell the other 1GB left free, waste of time or money. Is there un upgrade solution or how could I do it to have 2* 2GB ?

Windows On Mac :: Which Operating System Is Best

Apr 13, 2010

I bought my MBP about a month ago, and I bought VMWare Fusion to go with it. I need to run Windows to run Office, AutoCAD, and ChemCAD (I'm a chemical engineering student).

Is Fusion the best way to go, or should I get Parallels? (I haven't opened the Fusion software yet.)

Should I spend the money on Windows 7, or would Windows XP be fine?

Does anyone knows somewhere cheap to get Windows? And does it matter if it says it's for a PC? I know UltimateSteal currently has Office, but as far as I can tell they don't have Windows right now.

I got my MBP because my Gateway (big mistake, I know) crashed. It had the latest Office on it...is there a way I can use that instead of having to buy it again? (I don't want to use the Vista off it for obvious reasons.

Windows On Mac :: System Overheating In Bootcamp?

Oct 23, 2010

I currently use an iMac i7 with Windows XP SP3 installed on the Bootcamp partition. I've noticed recently that when I'm on the Windows side for a long period of time the iMac gets quite hot and the fans are raging with a loud roar! Obviously, this does not happen on the Mac OS side. I got quite concerned, so I restarted it in Mac OS to check the iStat. The CPU fan was over 2000rpm and some of the temps just reached over 60 degrees C. So I decided to keep it in Mac for the time being and everything decided to calm down to the 'normal' temperatures. I've searched Mroogle / Google for solutions and it appears people are using smc Fan Control for Windows to increase the fan speeds. I'm not sure if this is the right path to go down where I can override the fan speeds and just put up with the fan noise... but is there another solution? Are there any drivers released to help deal with this issue or is it a windows problem?
