I tried to install a Cannon 620 printer. It seemed to go ok, showed up on the printer list when I tried to send a job, but it wouldn't come online and print. I fiddled around (bad idea) and changed the printer sharing parameters, and now whenever I try to go into system preferences, printer/fax, it freezes and I have to force quite. Same with other apps when I try to do something with the printer (like word). I tried to uninstall, but can't get to the driver to uninstall it, as it is in systems preferences. how to uninstall even though I can't get into the system pref printer options?

I installed (and subsequently uninstalled) two different fan control programs... Since then, my fan speed has increased somewhat dramatically. Instead of the normal 2000 rpm (approx), it now runs at 3500 to 4500 rpm with CPU temps between 55 & 65 deg. C. I'm wondering if one of the programs modified some fan setting and how I can restore the factory defaults. I'm on a Macbook Pro OSX 10.6.8 *additional note: I only have one fan running (left fan), which is why I downloaded the fan control programs in the first place... but the left fan was running at around 2000 rpm even though it was the only fan (until I installed those programs)

I set up my SL with CS4 + iWorks, and a few other apps, and now my system takes more than two seconds to shut down like when I first installed it. Anyone else experience this?
View 3 Replies View RelatedMy iMac doesn't turn off in the normal way any more. The system shuts down and the screen becomes black, but the fan keeps on running. And it deosn't stop! The only way to completely shut down everything is to hold the powerbutton.
I already have reinstalled Lion, but the problem is still prensent. I've got this iMac for around 6 months now, but this problem occured around 2 weeks ago. Before everything has been all right.

I have the following question: I have checked my mac on flashback with flashback removal tool from Kaspersky. It detected (nd removed then) flashback although I have OS X.7. But every time I start the computer, the virus is detected by the removal tool again...However, all other anti-virus programmes are detecting no threat. i have also installed the malware removal app from apple. So I definitely do not understand why the Kaspersky tool is still detecting the virus.Â

I am new to the mac world, I've always had a windows before. Well, I just installed XP on my macbook, and was wondering if the "Parallels Internet Security powered by Kaspersky" is secure enough for my pc. I don't want to be getting viruses on my pc, so I was wondering if that security is strong enough, or if you would recommend getting a different internet security?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI've made the update to 10.7.4 last week and since then my MBP doesn't want to shutdown. I tried a few times, waiting for half an hour, but the result was the same. Also, the startup is slower than usual.
View 5 Replies View RelatedUsually when I shut down the system using the software "shut down" command, the system shuts down. Lately, I have had to use the shut down button which resuts in an improper shut down when I restart the computer. So, there is a software glitch. Is there anyway to correct this?

I've recently installed more ram into my macbook pro, and now the keyboard and trackpad doesn't work. My wireless mouse does work however. I tried taking the new Ram out and turning the computer back on that way, but the keyboard still won't work.

i didnt have much to do a couple days ago so i thought i'd install Cheetah on my iBook G4, turned out to be harder than i thought. For some reason it doesnt boot any os prior to Tiger, so I installed Tiger and copied an image of the Tiger OS with the OS 9.2 (i think you have to have it on the system to install prior OS's). So i did that and when i pop the Cheetah cd in it loads and opens OS 9.2 but then it says: "This Application Does Not Run In The Classic Environment - To Install Mac OS X, start up your computer from the Mac OS X CD." Which i did but still doesnt load. I still have an old PowerBook G3 and installed Cheetah on it, then i removed its hd, and created a new sparse image from it. Then i booted up Tiger on the ibook g4 and restored from the image, all went fine, i selected the correct boot device and even repaired permissions but still it doesnt want to boot up Cheetah on the iBook!

I have noticed that Firefox has been doing some weird things, random stuff that I don't even really understand how to even explain it. I am wondering if it is beneficial to just start over with Firefox....meaning, how do I completely uninstall and reinstall it? I have read that even when you do an uninstall process, that it keeps things on your hard drive. Can anyone explain (remember, novice terminology please) how to go about getting anything & everything related to Firefox OFF of my computer, then just reinstall it?? Also, on a somewhat unrelated note....when browsers get updates and we install them, am I supposed to go and uninstall the previous version? i.e.: new updates for Safari, iTunes, Firefox, iPhoto....anything?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI needed Firefox because something I had to do online only allowed IE or Firefox (how annoying). Anyway, after I installed it and used it, I closed it but couldn't find the application in the "Applications" folder in Finder. Therefore I cannot drag it into my Trash can and be done. Where could I find the app to uninstall or where is it?

My system has randomly shut down twice now in the last two days. Dual G5 2.3. I checked the console log, which I know very little about, and it said this:
localhost kernel[0]: ApplePMU::PMU forced shutdown, cause = -122
Two questions-
what's the -122 code mean?
Do you think resetting the PMU would be the solution to this?
I downloaded Lion from the App store and the installer launched automatically. I clicked install, then I agreed to the terms and then a progress window appeared with the label 'Checking "Macintosh HD" '. I have waited for hours and nothing happens after that. I already tried burning the installer to an extenal drive and a DVD and got the same results. Â

View 14 Replies View RelatedI've just switched over from XP and have been problems with uninstalling programs off the Mac (osx tiger). In XP there would normally be a control panel which would show a list of programs on your computer which you could either modify or uninstall. There doesn't appear to be one in mac osx so I decided to drag the file from the applications folder to the trash. It appeared as though everything was fine until I ran a search in spotlight to still find some of the files still on my computer. I was uninstalling Limewire if this helps. I would like to rid my computer of everything associated to this program.

I installed a copy of Adobe After Effects on my MacBook Pro, but the license had expired, deleted it out of the applications folder and tried to install a new copy but the system check says that After Effects is still installed on the hard drive, what's the proper way to uninstall software.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI was curious about something. If I was to take a Application from the Application area in OSX and drag it to the trash, it is uninstalled.
Now I've downloaded a program call Apptrap, so it will remove all of the associated files along with the program.
If I were to decide to put the program back in the Applications area of OSX by dragging it, how do I get the associated files back where they belong? I wasn't sure if the program would create new files once I started the program again or what. I removed a program and it had some associated files with it but I don't know where they went and have since deleted them.
What do ya do in a situation like this?
1. Am I supposed to run any kind of disk maintenance (repairing permissions for example) prior to reinstalling Leopard?
2. Since all of my apps are going to be downgraded to its previous versions that originally came with Leopard installation DVDs, and my OS is going to be downgraded to 10.5.3 (I am on 10.5.7 at the moment), I am in a dilemma. Is it better to go with step-by-step update of Leopard (first download 10.5.4 and install it, than 10.5.5, etc...) or go directly to 10.5.7 from 10.5.3 (I think combo update is all about that, correct me if I am wrong)
3. About all the apps that go with Leopard (iTunes, iMovie, Quick Time Player)... Do you suggest me to update them as soon as I install 10.5.3 or to update to 10.5.7 first and then install all the application updates?
Several applications on my mac keep uninstalling themselves, even whilst In use. For example: I was using firefox, then navigation bar seemed to lock up, so I quit Firefox, then it removed itself from the dock bar - I looked in my applications folder and it was no longer there? Had to download and reinstall to get it working again. Was using photoshop CS4, click 'save for web' and a popup told me it was unable to export as file didn't exist? So I saved my file i was working on, quit photoshop, looked in my applications folder and the entire CS4 package was missing?
To restore this, I opened Time Machine, and found that it had been missing for 3 hours, so restored the Adobe suite (7gb) and it now works again. This has happened to about 8 applications now, cyberduck, carbon copy cloner, adium, appzapper, automater, firefox, adobe? I've ran a disk check on my hard drive and all seems fine, no errors found. I'm also experiencing complete freezes every so often where I'm forced to hold the power button down to turn my mac off and then reboot it - all since this error started happening. I have a Macbook Pro, 17" 2.4ghz, 4gm ram running OS X 10.5.7
Every 5 mnutes my safari crashed and says its because of a plug in caled gamehouserestaurantrush plug in. I would like to get rid of this. I've been to preferences and gone to extensions but its completely blank.Â
View 3 Replies View RelatedI just bought a new Macbook Pro 2.4 and am looking at putting a copy of XP 32bit on there soon after I get it. However, Windows 7 is also looking pretty nice and since I'll be in college when it's released (I believe) I'll probably end up getting a copy. So, I was just wondering: How easy is it to get rid of a, say, XP boot camp partition? And when you do get rid of it, does it delete all your files and such? Anyways, just looking for some insight on the topic, have been using macs for a long time but this will be the first Intel one.
