I'm using Parallels on my iMac to run Windows XP. I have AVG free anti-virus running on the Windows side and it can't find an internet connection to update the anti-virus files. How do I fix this?

Are there any real threats out there for my Mac OS X or is installing an anti-virus just a wiste of time, money and memory? Should I be concerned about passing on viruses through e-mail or USB stick to my colleagues or friends who use Windows? If so, which anti-virus should I use? Is there any real competition between anti-viruses out there?

Anywhoo, very basic question - do Mac users generally use anti-virus software?
I used Mac through most of the 90s (again, because of my job) and my workplace didn't use it then. I've also been using Linux for the past 10 years and have never used anti-virus software on it either, and never had any problems.
On Windows I use K7 Antivirus.
i was browsing using safari on my MBA and this anti virus opo came out quite frequent even i already set my block pop up windows. can anyway advice me how to get rid of it? its quite distracting anyway.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a MacPro Early 2009, 2 ethernet ports.Ethernet 1 is connected to the LAN and Ethernet 2 is connected directly to a SSL Matrix console (an audio mixer), whom driver needs the used ethernet port to be first of the list in the Network connections list in System Preferences.So when I browse internet I can't use the Matrix's software, and vice versa.I had to create 2 different network positions to browse internet and to work with SSL Matrix, one with Eth 1 first place, another one with Eth 2 first place, and I always have to swap positions.Is there a way to force OSX to use by default the 2nd connection of the list for internet access?

I'm on holiday using my mobile phone (Nokia N80) to connect to the Internet over GPRS / EDGE / UMTS. Everything works like a charm, but often the Internet Connect applet drops the connection and just hangs disconnecting.
I'm running OS X 10.4.7 on a 17" Macbook pro, but I have the same result on a iBook G4, same OS X version, and even trying with a different mobile phone (Nokia 6600) and different network service provider.

I know there are a lot of similar threads all around different forums, but nothing really helped and I was hoping some of you smart ladies/guys can help solve this issue once and for all.
Here's the deal:
My main desktop computer (Compaq windows XP computer) is set-up upstairs where the cable router and linksys wireless router are placed (which is right next to the desktop on the desk). My Macbook (running Tiger and is 3 years old) and iMac (running Leopard and is not even 1 year old yet) are set-up downstairs in my new office. This room is in the basement, however the room is almost directly above the main office where the wired desktop computer resides.
Prior to setting up my office downstairs, my sister lived with my family in the basement and had her windows Vista laptop set-up without any internet connection issues. Her internet never dropped on her laptop, and neither did the connection on her wireless all-in-one printer/scanner/copier. Cell phone reception/internet connection in the basement is also great.
When I set up my iMac and Macbook however a few weeks ago, the internet keeps dropping connection! I do not understand this when my sister had no problems at all with her laptop getting internet connection, when she was living with us. The internet connection will stay good for either 10-30 minutes and then drop, or it could be good for up to an hour and then drop.

It is still working fine on OS X.The message I get under network conections is:Local area connection......limited or no connectivity....Parallels network adapter.I tried to repair the connection, but the IP address could not be renewed.

Starting this morning, I lost my internet connectivity in both Firefox and Safari (OSX 10.5.8 on my Macbook pro) The odd thing is, that using my parallels installation of XP, I'm able to access the internet without a problem, that's how I'm making this post. I don't have any proxies set up either in firefox or the network preferences under OSX or XP. I'm able to connect to and access all files on the network, I just can't get to the internet. This has really got me baffled. I ran network utility and got 100% packet loss, and it's fine under XP. Any ideas? I've attached a picture of the ping from XP and the Ping from Network Utility, done basically simultaneously
View 4 Replies View Related i am having alot of trouble with parallels, the internet is not working in it, i am using airport to a d-link router, i used to use bootcamp, but opted not to because well this will sound stupid, because i don't have an apple keyboard, and when i boot with bootcamp and xp installed it always goes to windows, my mac mini doesn't recognize my option key i guess
anyway, i have xp running in parallels, no internet works, i have web sharing turned on in sharing, also have windows sharing on. anyway I can't seem to get on the internet in windows, and as weird as this is, i NEED to download some music for my dad but the company he's buying from will only do it if he has xp and windows media player. they could send him the cd's, but it will cost him 15$ more or something ridiculous, my dad said he would buy me some ipod games off itunes if i do this for him. SO THAT BEING SAID: once you guys help me get onto the internet, how will i get them to his mac? email could be tideous, can i burn a cd in parallels?
before you tell me to go use bootcamp (which i could because i do have access to an apple keyboard thats on my moms and dads comp) BUT i tried after my attempt failed with parallels, and it said it couldn't partition for some reason!?! I went to DU and repaired it and its smart verified ect and it said it was repaired but it still won't, it says i need to repair it.
I apparently got stung with the Adobe flash virus and now I cannot open any Adobe .pdf files from the internet.
