OS X V10.7 Lion :: Cannot Drag/drop Or Copy/paste On Ubuntu (Parallel Desktop 7)?
Mar 21, 2012
I have two Virtual Machines running on my MacbookPro. One is Windows and the other is Ubuntu. The Windows 7 system is running perfectly well but the Ubuntu VM has got issues with dragging/dropping files from Mac to Ubuntu and vice versa. When I checked on the Parallel Desktop's forum, the only solution provided was that the Parallel Desktop's tool should be uninstalled and reinstalled; which I have done. But that didn't solve the problem. The Configuration menu "Virtual Machine" offered checkboxes for the (Copy & Paste) section, and I can confirm that both boxes for 'Share Mac Cipboard' and 'Preserve Text Formatting' are checked. That should have solved the copy/paste problem but didn't.
It is as simmple as the title. I can not drag and drop icons or text or folders. Nothing. As for cut, copy, and paste they do not work either. I am trying to back up my files so I can do a clean install of snow leopard. I have leopard currently.
I can't copy and paste, drag and drop, or use spotlight on my macbook purchased in 2007 running mac os x 10.5.8.
I noticed the problem when using serato scratch live initially because it wouldn't let me drag and drop the songs in to cue. I was able to use the key board short cuts and moved on. I then tried to clear some items from my desk top to the trash can and was unable to drag them. I was able to open the desk top in the finder and use the file, move to trash option. The problem became unbearable when I was reorganizing a word document and could not cut and paste within the document. The commands did not work from edit either. I have found that I am able to cut but not paste in the mean time.
A user kindly pointed me to a link using the terminal to see if I had a tmp folder. I did but the date was from October of 2007 which is around when I bought the machine. I have run repair permissions from disk utitilty as suggested in yet another forum to no avail...hence reposting with my specific symptoms? Short of reinstalling mac os x, what are my options DOC?
I suddenly lost the ability to drag and drop and copy and paste. I've looked up previous threads and have done what they suggested to no avail. I've restarted finder; rebooted the computer; repaired disk permissions; and tried to trash the cache file "com.apple.dock.iconcache" but when I ctrl + clicked it to send it to the trash, it was removed from the cache folder but doesn't show up in the trash bin. This is my work computer so I need this resolved ASAP.
I got a Mac Book Pro Intel Core 2 10.5.8 from this morning I cannot drag and drop any files, I cannot copy or paste anything, anywhere. I've tried to fix permission, and disk but everything was worthless?
I created a Ubuntu VM on my mac and installed the VMWare tool stuff. Now the mouseover thing and auto screen resizing works, but I can't copy and paste files into my VM...
Is this impossible with Linux or did something go wrong when installing it?
Also, visual performance is really poor, when I drag a window around it moves at a very poor framerate. In Windows XP this is also the case but not as badly, can something be done to improve either of these problems?
Yesterday I found that I can't drag and drop any files on my desktop. I get the white circle with a line through it when I try to drag anything. I can drag off of my desktop to my HD and to the trash but I can't drag anything back. I've read all of the previous threads about it and have tried all of the poetntail fixes including: Creating a new user account and switching back and forth
Sleep / Wake
Relaunching Finder
Checking the Dragging option in Universal Access
Checking all of my settings in preferences
(I don't have Air Display, Airparrot or any of the other listed problematic 3rd party programs)I even reinstalled Lion and the problem still exists?
It is odd: pre update (the latest) I could download to my literal desktop, or drag and drop a photo from iPhoto, an mp3 to mail later from iTunes.....Now I can only do that from within the finder in the "desktop" window. In other words: If I download (I prefer to download onto my desktop rather than the download folder-window. I want to have control over ny desktop again (rather than the folder-window entitled "desktop".
I want to re-arrange files on my desktop. When I use 'drag & drop' the file I moved just snaps back to its original location. How do I get 'drag & drop' to work properly?
My Macbookpro was giving me a startup disk full message so I emptied out my photo library and itunes library to an external drive. By then I think the damage was done because I was still encountering the spinning color wheel all the time. On the advice of he Genius bar I reinstalled Lion. It worked well except for this one glitch. I can no longer drag and drop photos from the internet.
I can't cut & paste in any application, and can't drag and drop files into other folders or into the trash. I also can't print (keep getting error message). I have tried creating new Admin account, as well as repairing disk permissions.
I went to install a typical Mac OS update using software updater only this time when it completed my click-drag and copy-paste functions stopped working. Can anyone help solve this? Here is what I have tried.
restarted (multiple times), tried booting up in Safe Mode (by pressing shift when starting up), and repaired disk permissions using disk utility. I even ran all of the daily, weekly and monthly scripts using Cocktail.
i cant seem to be able to copy paste or drag anything on my macbook. I can copy its just when i paste it doesnt work as the 'paste' is grayed out but also keyboard commands dont work either. My drag and drop doesnt work either from itunes files to desktop documents..I havent downloaded anything, and i've restarted my mac to check if that works and it doesnt, i have also repaired permissions but that doesnt work either
They're still accessible through finder, but now I can't drag-and-drop anything (at all) to the desktop. It was fine a minute ago before I shut down and rebooted my laptop. Restarts and switching users does nothing. I'm using Mac OSX Lion 10.7.4.
I don't know when this started, but it's been the case for months: let's say I drag 10 albums' worth of files to copy to my iPhone (under manually manage music)--that will take a minute or so to copy via wi-fi. But, now, if I drag another album over to copy before the previous batch of 10 has finished transferring, the 10-album transfer is canceled, and the new album starts copying in its place. Before, dragging new files over to the phone during a copy would add to a "queue" such that your current copy job was not canceled.
I have created a ringtone and is held on my desktop, the instructions I have is too left click and hold to drag it back onto your iTunes program but when I do this it is not being displayed on my iTunes program. Is there a solution for the Drag And Drop function.
Not sure when it happened, but I can no longer drag & drop from my download folder to the desktop. I can, however, go through 'Find" and drop the file that way. I am running OS X. I'm on a MacBook Pro.
I've been having this problem for a couple of days now, it was working fine but all of a sudden I can't save a picture onto my desktop or any folder in finder directly from safari by dragging and dropping, I can do it in aperture and iphoto but not onto my desktop or finder, is there anyway I to correct this?!
I goggled for answers but can't find any. I'm looking for a way that students at the lab cannot drag and drop (copying) a quicktime movie found on Desktop. Yes, they can play/view the movie clip but I do not want them to copy it into their USB. Is there a way? Like using Terminal? I tried to look for 3rd Party software but couldn't find a good one?
I have received a link via email, and i would like to copy and paste it to my desktop. I have a PC and have done this on that, but can't figure how to do that on my Mac.
I'm sure it's a very simple process, but I just can't get it.
Just migrated from older iMac to brand new, though both were updated first. Now I can't see or copy files to desktop, can't drag copy folders to visible external HD on desktop, and can't access my Contact information? I have been using Macs since 1990.
I have several files on my desktop. When I try to move them o a new location, they just 'snap back' to their original position. Why doesn't the drag and drop feature not function properly?
Info: Mac Pro (Mid 2010), Mac OS X (10.7.2), Have installed 10.7.3
I have always used Address Book to store my email contact information in SL. When I wanted to send an email, I would drag and drop from Address Book to the "To:" field in Mail and it would add the contact information to Mail. I upgraded to Lion, and now when I try this, the address icon moves like it should, the little green circle with the + in it appears when I hover over the field, but when I release it does not add the address to Mail. The drag and drop does not work at all, but it looks like it should. I have searched all around but have not found any information about this.
I have a problem on my 2011 Macbook Pro with OS X Lion on it. One of the problems is that since I have updated to the latest software updates as Apple recommends, I have noticed that copy and paste no longer functions. I used the keyboard shortcut of command + c to copy but no longer does OS X paste now with the use of command + v. I tried also to the the trackpad in highlighting, double clicking and select copy and then paste it still doesn't work and is so frustrating. Don't know what to do now.
