View 1 RepliesMy MBP has this issue every once in a while where I have to hold the power button and force shut down. Randomly the volume keys/brightness etc. stop working and i can't open apps or shut it down normally. Everything still works though (can still function in open applications) Anyone know what the problem is? It fixes when I force reset.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI recently installed a VPN.
The performance through the VPN is badly affected by the Airport scanning regularly; often the VPN hangs.
I have deleted the unnecessary wireless networks listed in the Advanced button under Network Preferences. However, the problem persists.
Can you advise how to either stop the scanning or stop it interfering with Internet connection?

I use safari and have pop-ups turned off, but it doesn't seem to affect pop-unders.
How do I stop pop up adds like "Mackeeper" and "Netzero" off of my MacBook and iMac? I have block pop ups checked under the safari drop down menu, but they still pop up all the time. I have lion on the iMac and leopard on the MacBook.

I have a 2010 3.33Ghz 6 Core Mac Pro 16Gb RAM, which suddenly decided to start beeping. The machine works fine. There are no error messages. Just the continuous noise (like a vehicle reversing) beeping.
Have tried restarting, but the noise comes back after a couple of minutes.Nothing software or hardware wise has been changed in the computer for a couple of months so there must be some failure, but I can't work out what it is.
Info:
Mac Pro, OS X Mavericks (10.9.4)
I never know when my keyboard on my iMac wil just stop. I have to unplug if from the USB and re-plug it to start working again. I've had the same setup for a couple of years. Started doing this about 1 month ago.

When I plug my kindle 3 into my MBP it automatically starts aperture. Why does it do this, and more importantly how do I stop it?
sometimes but not always my mac pro starts to hum.
its on hardwood floors, and if i just gently move it a nudge, it stops humming.
is it the floor or an issue.
I have set a keyboard shortcut cmd opt ctrl + S to start speaking highlighted text which works fine, however I have set numerous keyboard shortcuts but nothing I do can stop the text speaking, even quitting the application or relaunching the finder. In the end I have to log out to stop it speaking.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a 2008 iMac running OSX 10.6.5, 2.66Ghz Intel, 2 gig ram. I'm getting random blue screen crashes at least weekly. I don't have any hardware connected except an iomega external hd for Time Machine (and of course a keyboard and mouse). I'm never doing anything exceptional when it crashes. Usually just internet browsing (Chrome) or word processing (NeoOffice). The screen just suddenly goes gray/blue and I have to force it to shut down with the power switch.
I upgraded to Snow Leopard at the same time I installed Windows 7 (Boot Camp) and purchased the external hd. The problems started around that time. I have since wiped the disk and reinstalled both OSs, but am still facing the same problem.
I have an external 300gb seagate firewire drive, and I like to keep it attached, and on at all times, as it holds my media files. The problem is, it's constantly spinning down (which I don't mind... I don't like HD failure), the problem is when I attempt certain actions (for instance, putting the computer to sleep (there are many more, I just can't name them all)), my computer has to wait for the ext. hard drive to spin up adding several seconds to whatever action I am attempting to do.
So I guess my question is rather than stop the hard drive from spinning down, is there anything I can do to eradicate the time it takes for it to spin up again?
For some reason my macbook suddenly speaks every action I do.
Furthermore, I am unable to use the function keys to adjust sound brightness etc.
I saw something around here a few days ago about it, what are the odds it would happen to me?
Have you ever selected dozens or hundreds of files hoping to get info "collectively" -- namely the cumlulative size -- but Mac OS starts an unstoppable avalanche of pop-ups for each and every one and you panic and eventually give in and let a billion popups tile across your monitor for an hour, like so many coats of digital paint, or just hard power-off your computer.
View 10 Replies View RelatedI keep getting problems with passwords and I can only presume I have spyware issues on my mac book pro.
I want to completely start again but there are 3 issues:
1. I don't have my MS Office for Mac original disc although I do have the product ID number and I do have my original OS X install discs and Iwork 08 disc.
2. How do I backup absolutely everything so that as soon as I reinstall I can start where I began?
3. I am not very technical and don't have a clue how to uninstall everything and then reinstall. How do I do this so that any possible threats are totally gone?
My MacBook continually and randomly asks for my Keychain password. I have to cancel (or enter it) every time, it's pretty irritating. It seems to be totally sporadic.

View 1 Replies View RelatedSince upgrading to Snow Leopard I have an issue with spotlight. When I search for something and I select it, spotlight seems to continue on searching and I have to click the spotlight button again and press ESC to stop it from continuing searching. I want it to stop searching after I've used it, as it spins the hard drive quite fast, which generates noise.
View 13 Replies View Related this seems pretty basic, but I can't seem to find a way to turn off the password prompt in Mac OSX.
I have an account for my parents, and they don't need a password, but if they try and install software etc - it comes up with the Password Prompt window. Obviously, you don't enter anything into the password field and just continue on, but seeing how there is no password in the first place, why does it still ask for one?
I've been a Mac user for a few years, but have never came across this - I always use a password
I started to use alarm clock 2 an alarm clock application. But for some reason even though I deleted all the alarms I had set to go off, one still seemed to linger on. And it is still lingering on even though I have deleted the application.
Every morning Itunes launches and starts playing music at 8am and there is no indication that there is another application launching it. I've looked in widgets? that didn't work and I cannot seem to find where the problem is so I can fix it. Also this thing, whatever it is is intefering with my computer for instance I cannot rotate with cmd+tab, through the open applications anymore.
I have been trying to download many things, and they always seem to stop half way is this a problem on my end.
