Mac Pro :: 2010 Stop Humming?
Nov 8, 2010sometimes but not always my mac pro starts to hum.
its on hardwood floors, and if i just gently move it a nudge, it stops humming.
is it the floor or an issue.

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Samsung Printers ML-2010 And ML-2510 Stop Working With 10.7.3?
Feb 15, 2012I have 3 Macs (iMac 24", iMac 27" and MacBook Pro 15") each are connected to their own USB Samsung printer (ML-2510 and ML 2010). Since the OSX 10.7.3 upgrade from February 3rd 2012, they all have the same problem. The printer is responding, when we send something to print, the printer starts running and then stops before printing anything. The strange thing is that the next time I try to print, it can be OK. I am able to print sometime but not always. This problem is the same on all 3 computers. I have tryed to reinstall the driver from the Samsung web site and it did not resolved the problems.

Mac Pro :: Samsung F1 Oscillating Humming?
Mar 15, 2008I replaced my main drive, the 320GB with a 750GB Samsung F1. It seems to work fine. However it seems to have set up some sort of sympathetic vibration in the Mac Pro, which sounds like Hummm Hummm Hummm. Where as all the other things that cause noise in the case are a consistant and steady tone, this one is not. It's driving me nuts. Is this normal to be making this noise? I've tried it in different bays and it makes no difference.
UPDATE I've taken all the drives out except the F1, as I installed another DVD drive and three HD's and the noise has gone, so I'm now going to load each drive and review.
Mac Pro :: Using Humming Disk Drive?
Jan 23, 2010What causes a harddrive to make a humming type vibration. Is that a drive getting old and need to be swapped? its annoying because my mac pro tower is silent otherwise.
The noise started about a month or so ago but I had this drive for a few years now.
If the machine is on after it was a sleep for about an hour the noise dissipates a little.
IMac :: 27" I7 With 2TB Hitachi Humming?
Sep 10, 2010Last week I recieved my 27" iMac i7 2,93GHz with the 2TB Hitachi Drive.
I ordered this drive because it was said in this forum that this one should be silent.
Now, during access it is not really silent, but thats no problem
What bothers me more is, that there is a permament silent hum. An I can fell this vibration even on the stand (hopefully this is the correct term, I am from Austria, so english is not my native language).
And this vibration is also forwarded onto the table, but it is not really feelable on the table.
So my question is: Some say that their iMac is "dead silent". Mine isn�t, I also can here the fans silently, but that doesn�t bother me either. But this humming is somewhat distracting or annoying.
Maybe I am just to "picky", but do you really have iMacs which are almost inaudible?
Because I do not have any other problems I am not sure whether I should ask for a replacement.
Mac Pro :: Periodic Humming With New 1TB Seagate Barracuda
Mar 14, 2009I just purchased 2 1TB Barracudas and upon installing them (bays 3 and 4) I noticed a faint but definitely audible (and aggravating) humming noise that comes in a cycle of about 5 seconds.
It sounds identical to this video (made by someone else, but with the same drive) but my cycle is a bit longer:

I'm wondering if this is an issue with the drives or my installation? I mounted them tightly. I tried staggering the new drives with my old drives in terms of bay order to no avail.
Has anyone experienced this? The price on these drives is killer ($129) but I'll be returning them soon if I can't kill this noise.
OS X :: Mac Pro 8 Core Making Humming Noise?
Mar 20, 2010My Mac Pro 8 Core 2 x 2.8 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon with Leopard 10.5.8 started making a humming noise about a month ago. The humming noise is very consistent in pitch and is always humming whenever the computer is on, except for when sleeping.

I can hear a low humming noise! Not very loud, but I don't like it.
It grabs my attention...
It sounds like a fan motor or a transformer.
I can also feel a corresponding vibration.
Is this normal now? Does anyone else have this problem too?
Would you recommend to return/exchange this iMac?
MacBook Air :: 2010 From 13" 2010 And IPad Owner's Point Of View
Oct 26, 2010I have an iPad 32GB WiFi and a MacBook Pro as well so I was trying very hard to justify myself in getting an 11" MBA but ending up talking myself out of it. The 13" MBP is perfect for my uses. It's already lightweight and portable as it is. After playing with the 11" in the Apple store, I was impressed on how light it was. This no doubt blows away any netbook or any notebook in it's weight class in terms of size and performance. However, the MBP's battery life, hard drive space, and processing power OUTWEIGHS the reasons of dumping my 13" MBP for the Air. Also, I have it hooked up to a 21.5 Inch HP monitor at home and it's good enough to use as a main computer at home, and light enough to take on the road.
If I needed to lookup something quickly in bed or around the house, that's where the iPad comes in. If I needed to send a quick e-mail, my HTC Evo is already great at doing that. If I didn't have a 13" MBP or even the iPad, I would have most likely went ahead and purchased the MBA. Just now at this point, spending another $1000+ or getting rid of my MBP doesn't make much sense... yet.
IMac :: Fixing 27" Humming Noise?
Sep 19, 2010After returning 4 21.5" imacs with yellow screens and hard drive noise, I decided to try a 27" and finally a beautiful screen with no problems, no hard drive noise. I was very happy...untill I started hearing a humming noise that sounds like it is coming from the power supply. The noise stops when I put it in sleep mode. I tried a bunch of things to determine if it was the fans or hard drive and that was not it. I am pretty sure it is the PSU humming all the time. This is the first imac with a perfect screen and now it is humming. I am so frustrated.
What should I do? Have the power supply replaced or return it for another one and take the chance of getting one with a yellow screen? I am still within my 14 days of original purchase date.
PowerPC :: Changed HD In Powerbook And Still Humming/Ticking
Sep 9, 2009My Powerbook G4 recently started doing the HD clicking and squealling noise. So I changed the HD and everything worked great for about a day. Now there is a new Humming/Ticking noise coming from the area where you plug the power supply in.
If i tap in that area, it will go away for a couple minutes and then it comes back again. Sometimes it will just go away on it's own for a few minutes too. It doesn't change if I unplug the power or anything.
IMac :: 27" Humming - When Screen Dims
Nov 13, 2009I bought iMac 27" from local apple store two days ago. Everything is fine execpt that there is some weird sound coming from the computer when the screen turns darker to save energy. Once I move my mouse to activate the screen, the sound goes away. I am saying the sound is so load, but it is still noticable and a little annoying in a quite room.
Update: I search "screem+humming+dim" and turn out actually a lot of iMac owners have this problem. Is it a technical issue Apple fails to resolve in general?
MacBook Pro :: Making Humming/buzzing Noise?
Apr 4, 2012Yesterday I started up my MacBook Pro that I've only had for about 9 months. I immediately noticed that there was a barely audible buzzing / humming sound coming the inside of the laptop, most likely in the fans. I don't know how long this has been going on, and I really don't know the cause of it. So is this something I should be worried about (the sound is barely audible)? Or is this something that happens after prolonged use of the laptop?

OS X :: Humming Sound Coming From Early Intel IMac?
Mar 31, 2009There is a new humming sound coming from my parents iMac, I think it's the processor cooler but I'm not sure. It could be the hard drive as well, I just know it kicks up sometimes when there is a lot of activity. The problem is they don't do a lot on the computer so it scares them.
They are convinced that it is going to die because it's soo old, I think under two years, but this is the second computer they owned. The first was the first 20" G5 iMac that, instead of turning it off the correct way, they just unplugged from the wall outlet. Needless to say it died, but they think it was because their son in law used it too much. I try to tell them that it's because how they turned it off, but they didn't like their son in law, who is now an ex-son in law, so they blame it on him. Yes, I know, my parents are the last people to own a computer.
They also don't want to spend any money on their computer, so worse case scenioro, taking it to the Genius Bar without this computer being under warranty and having them replace the processor fan and/or the hard drive, what would it cost? I think it might just require a new fan for the processor cooler, but what if they need to replace a lot more?

I happened to be switching out displays at the back of my MP today. Could hear the fan at the lower back portion of the machine (as normal). but this time could also hear a very slight electrical hum just by the power unit -- is this normal (the hum) does yours have this hum?
I never heard it before. guess my head was never that close to it when the MP was on the floor. but since i moved it to the top of the desk my head is closer to it when I switch out the DVI ports

IMac :: Humming Noise From Speakers When Connected To 27"
Jan 27, 2010so i love my new 27"; it's simply fantastic.... so far. i encountered a problem when i plugged in a 1/8 to RCA to go to my surround sound system. There is a loud humming sound coming from the speakers when i connect it. i tried to wiggle it and push it further to no avail. the sound was still there. i tried using another cable and the sound was still there. then i tried plugging in my headphones, and they WORK FINE! what the hell is going on and how do i fix this problem?

May 6, 2012I purchased a 21" iMac a couple of months ago. Today it started making constant buzzing/humming noise. It's not really loud, but it is noticeable and annoying after a while. It stops if I put the computer in sleep mode or turn it off, but it starts back up the moment I turn it back on again. It sounds like it is coming from the bottom of the screen near the speakers. I have tried adjusting the brightness and volume, but to no avail. I also tried lifting the computer off the desk to see if it was just vibration, but that did not make a difference either.

Intel Mac :: White 2006 Loud Humming Noise?
May 11, 2012 I have a 2006 White Intel Imac and I recently replaced the Superdrive with a non apple Panasonic Superdrive Model: UJ-85J-B from a used Acer Laptop. The replacement drive has no sensor circuit board. After putting it back together there was a loud humming noise and I assumed it was the new drive but when I took it out and started the Imac without it the noise remained? Now I am thinking it is the fan just below where the Superdrive sits? I blew out as much dust as I could from this fan and around the bottom of the case and that made the noise just a little less annoying. It sounds like it is about to take off like an jet airplane?

Apr 15, 2010I've been lurking MacRumors ever since 'the wait for Arrandale' began and finally decided to sign up now so I could post this thread. I've been a Windows user for a long time now and I have a Win7 rig at home. However, I'll be going to uni later this year so I need a good portable notebook that's suitable for the common mailing 'n surfing, but also for doing some programming in Eclipse (Java) and PHP work etc. I still have my Win7 box at home for gaming and things that require larger screensize, but for the notebook... I feel really attracted to OSX with a MBP.
It will be my first Mac, but my desktop dualboots with OSX and I love it. So that's why I have decided that my school notebook will be a Mac. This is why I have been closely watching the rumors for the new MBPs and ofcourse I was pretty disappointed when I saw that the 13" model still had a C2D cpu... It's not that I need a beefed up CPU in my notebook (... I have a 3.6 GHz quad at home ), but it feels 'wrong' to buy a MBP 13": even the 2009 MacBook has a C2D, so what will the MB 2010 update bring? Is it really worth the extra money? Anyone with a similar situation?
Hardware :: Computer Making Buzzing/humming Sound - Fixing It?
Sep 1, 2008I've had my imac for under two years, and just recently I noticed it making an odd humming/buzzing sound at times. It's not the normal sound you hear when your hard drive is working hard, it's definitely different. It's not the speakers either, it happens whether they are on or muted.
My suspicion may be that it has something to do with the power. That's because I've been bug testing a mac beta game, and it often crashes my computer, and I have to manually turn off my computer by holding down the power button until it cuts the power.
Does anyone know why this may be and how I can prevent it/fix it?

Jun 7, 2012My 20.5 inch 2.7GHz iMac is about a year old and has recently started making a low humming/buzzing noise from the top right corner, near the SuperDrive bay. The top of hte iMac feels quite warm when it makes the noise and usually stops if I hold my hand on top of the computer. Is this something I should be contacting AppleCare about?

Dec 31, 2009My MBP has this issue every once in a while where I have to hold the power button and force shut down. Randomly the volume keys/brightness etc. stop working and i can't open apps or shut it down normally. Everything still works though (can still function in open applications) Anyone know what the problem is? It fixes when I force reset.

I have deleted the unnecessary wireless networks listed in the Advanced button under Network Preferences. However, the problem persists.
