OS X Leopard :: Setup Assistant Restarts?
according to the log on Carbon Copy, it stated that there were errors transferring some files due to broke files from Garageband, Word, etc etc. So I did an update on Leopard, restarted the computer and the Setup Assistant/Migration Assisant window pops out. I typed all the following information in and clicked done, and again the same window pops out. Did the same thing, Setup Assistant pops out again asking for the same stuff.

I am moving from a late 2009 MBP running s'leopard to a new imac which will also be running s'leopard.

Now, I want to copy everything from my mbp such as docs, emails, itunes, accounts...everything. Is it best I set up OSX on the new imac and then run migration or can I connect them both when I first boot up the new imac and run setup assistant to copy everything over?

Snow Leopard :: How To Get Access To Setup Assistant
I installed SL onto an external HD for my MBP. I want to leave the MBP as it is for a while before installing SL onto it. Unfortunately I did not use the Setup Assistant when I did the install and from what I've studied here, it is better to use Setup Assistant at the start rather than to go back and use Migration Assistant.

1. If I re-install SL over the SL install I already did, will I be offered access to Setup Assistant - if not, how do I get back to the Setup Assistant?
2. Will Setup Assistant take everything from the MBP and *leave the original data and apps on the MBP*? and then do I get to/have to? delete things that don't actually work with the MBP? or does SA take care of that by not copying apps that won't work (is it that smart?)

I know SL has been around for a time, I'm just slow in getting my act together to get it up and running.

Mac Bluetooth :: Assistant Keeps Quitting While Trying To Setup Printer
I just purchased a Bluetooth HP Photosmart C5580 printer. When I try to use the Device Setup Assistant to connect it to my MacBook Pro, it keeps quitting. I get the Introduction window, then once I select "Printer" on the next page, the Setup Assistant suddenly quits and all that pops up is the Print & Fax System Preference window. When I choose "any device" from the list, the same thing happens. I know there is nothing wrong with the printer because I've already setup with my old iBook and the Setup Assistant worked fine and connected to the printer. Anyone have any idea why it is quitting on me? I've checked all my OS X updates and everything is up to date.

OS X Leopard :: Spinning Beachball In Setup Assistant - How To Fix It
I have a Macbook, for which I needed a password resetting (I do not have the install disk to do it that way. A cousin of mine said he could sort it out by using the below commands.

rm -Rf /var/db/dslocal
rm /var/db/.AppleSetupDone

Now when I boot up I get Setup Assistant as if it were a new user, the problem is when I select my wireless connection - it says configuring your computer then after a few minutes I get the spinning beach ball I have left this for about 5 hours and nothing.

I have also tried the option for ethernet and also the option I do not connect to the internet. It also asks and accepts my wireless router password.

OS X V10.5 Leopard :: After Installation G5 Only Showing Setup Assistant
Having had major start up and software problems I decided to do a clean installation of Leopard, did backups and started the installation on my G5! Even though the OS X 10.5.1 DVD was tested prior to the installation to be in perfect condition, the installation quick somewhere down the line. After several attempts it finished and a restart was successful - everything seemed fine and I started with the software updates.

The requested restart never occurred and after 45 min of watching that little rotating ball with no action taking place inside the G5, a forced shut down stopped the process! Since then the setup assistant is all that comes up after start!Trying to start via the installation DVD (C-key during start) or safe boot or single user mode......works!I got a new OS X 10.5.1 installation DVD from a friend - no change! What I can do to at least get to the single user mode so I can clean out the fault from there?

Stop Migration Assistant On A Brand New MacBook Air?
My wife just got a brand new MacBook Air last night. She started to set it up and ran the Migration Assistant from her old first-gen MacBook Air.Wirelessly.Suffice to say she still has 162 hours to go and it didn't improve at all overnight. What are my options for stopping the transfer safely without harming either computer and then getting the new one safely up and running? Can I just "pull the plug" (and how do I do that IBM guy here so Macs are greek to me). Will I need to restore the new machine and can I even do that when it was brand new out of the box?

Her old MacBook Air had some issues with printing, Firefox, etc.Should I do a more select file transfer from old to new to avoid transferring corrupted files? Not sure how "deep" the migration assistant goes.

Server V10.6 Snow Leopard :: XServe 10.6 SL Setup Assistant Fails?
Been hacking at an XServer 2,1 (Early 2008) box for the past 18 hours or so straight attempting to do a clean reinstall from L to SL Server. Each round I have cleared (repartitioning to be certain) the system drive (raid) and performed the default install. Each time I reach the Network pane of Setup assistant it returns a fairly generic message regarding "An Error occurred. There was a problem configuring your network services. Please inspect you network settings and try again." and fails to continue.

Currently in the Network applet I have 2 Eth interfaces (1 connected, 1 discconned) and 2 LOM interfaces and 1 Firewire and have probably tried every combination of setting interfaces to inactive / static / dhcp etc.

From the poking I did it seems that DHCP / DNS is generally the culprit and the existing windows dns on the network was a bit of a mess. Setup a Ubuntu server in VMWare with fairly straightforward setting for both and the SL install seemed to hear and incorporate them.

Only work around so far that I have come across is to manually set the .AppleSetupDone bit via SSH, the serial # via Server admin, and reboot past the setup assistant. Logging on with root and the 8 digit serial then works, but it seems like the machine is at least partially gimped.

Also tried disconnecting the server from the network for the setup and alternatively isolating its port in VLAN. Tried install disks for both 10.6 and 10.6.3.

Left the install on the Network pane overnight and returned to two error dialogs over top of it.

"Refreshing connection" "Failed to Authenticate to the server"
and
"Getting network interfaces" "Failed to authenticate to the server"

Had read some posts on the install acting wonky under 10.6.2 and seeing two ethernet instances on the same server as a serial number violation. But the installs I had attempted shouldn't have been 10.6.2 (10.6 and 10.6.3). And I had left the second adapter disconnected on each install so far. The install is trying to create an LOM interface on both adapters as well.

To note, this is a newly purchased SL Server install kit and the serial is completely legit and unused previously.

Figured this might be a long shot, but any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Trying to muster up the strength to use an old Airport Extreme and setup a mini network for the next install try (Just based on a number of the documentation examples coupling the install with an aiport and the hope there may be some inherent compatibility gain). Then again I am probably just overtired and getting desperate.

Server V10.6 Snow Leopard :: Install Without Booting Off / Completing Setup Assistant?
I decided to turn the two hard drives on my Mac mini Server into a RAID 1 volume, so I booted from an install DVD of 10.6.3. Now, I am unable to reinstall Mac OS X Server version 10.6, as I have lost the DVD that came with the Mac mini Server. However, I do have a copy of 10.6 Server. However, when I try to install it, it will not boot off of the DVD. I am assuming this is because of drivers, firmware, etc and 10.6 not supporting the newer hardware. Anyway, is there a way to put 10.6 server on a hard disk, and update it to 10.6.5 without booting off of it, or completing the Setup Assistant?
