Dec 31, 2008i am using MAIL in mac. i am using a macbook pro and i want to set up my comast.net mail. i set it up before and now its not working. i changed something and now i have no idea what i am doing.
what is the outgoing and incoming, and the port number and all the settings. i have never had this comcast mail working correctly. when i first set it up i would have to "refresh" the MAIL all the time so it would get my mail. i can not recieve or send mail anymore.

Sep 17, 2003Is anyone else having problems getting their comcast email in Apple's Mail.app? This same thing happened to me about a month ago and after about 5 days it just started working again.
What happens is that it acts like its connecting and then it gets stuck on "Preparing to Retrieve Messages" Fat chance, it doesn't do anything but eventually stop trying to "retreive messages.
I called comcast and apple last time this happened, they blamed it on each other. I can get my email fine in Entourage and via webmail. My other email accounts with .mac work fine as does my wife's comcast email. It's weird. Last time I even tried on other computers and a different user...all the same result.

Mar 26, 2010I'm trying to figure out the genesis of my problem. Two days ago, I was able to send and receive mail using the Mail app with no problem. Then suddenly last night, I can only send mail using the app. I called Comcast to see if they had a mail server down and they told me it was a problem with my e mail client since I could send and receiving using the Comcast webmail. I don't get it. I didn't change any of my settings and I can send and receive just fine using my iPhone.

Aug 28, 2009I first synced it via Mobile Me and when the password wouldn't save, I deleted the comcast email account and started fresh but it still keeps asking for password. I know I have the correct password inserted because I went to the web site email and logged in with the same password I'm using in Mail.

Jun 24, 2014Running 10.9.3 and having an issues with gmail. Been running our business and personal gmail thru Apple mail for years and never had a issue. We have also just switch over to Comcast High Speed business for internet. The issue is this.....first thing in the morning start up the computer and open up mail. The app runs but no new mail comes in. I check my iphone and I'll have 6-7 new emails. I'll hit "Get Mail" a few times and still nothing happens. Now the strange part. If I send and email to anyone within 2-3 seconds I'll get all of my new emails. For the rest of the day its seems like mail is hanging up "Somewhere". The same thing is happening on 2-3 other macs in my company which are set up the same way.

Jan 24, 2010This is by no means a "new" topic, as both the Gmail interface and Mail.app have been around forever, each increasing in simplicity of use and features since their inception. I have a blackberry, but also use the gmail web interface. I've been noticing many productivity freaks stating that they use Mail.app, and I don't understand why? The way gmail handles conversations is much neater and tidier, and the instant search is fantastic. The only thing I can see is the use of folders, which Gmail can nearly do with tags. So what am I missing? Can Mail.app increase my productivity and efficiency? Or would I just be downloading extra junk to my hard drive to be viewed and managed in a less efficient way?

Mar 2, 2012I am looking for a way to connect my Mac pro to two different networks and have mail traffic run through en1 and all other traffic run through en0. Basically our corporate email is on supported accessible on Network A, but the majority of the work I have to do is only accessible on Network B. So to get access to both I have to use two computers and a KVM switch. Not the prefered workflow. I thought about using a virtual machine, but then I'm using up a bunch of valuable system resources just to run Mail. Seems like I should be able to point all traffic for a specific IP address to route through a specific network interface, but I can't seem to figure out how.

Apr 27, 2012I'm having problems with Mail 5.2. I can't seem to get back to widescreen layout in my mac mail. I'm not sure what I did, but is there a way to get the 3-way split screen back? I went into Preferences and tried that, but nothing changes. I've read that once you go back to classic mail, you cannot get the widescreen layout back. Anyway, tried the Letterbox app. as well, is not working on Mail 5.2.

Sep 21, 2010I had my iPhone/Mac set up(seems to have just worked this way, I didn't do anything specifically) this way previous to my hard drive failing last week. When I was out(Macbook Pro is closed at home), and I received e-mail(Gmail and Hotmail), my mail would come to my phone. Then, once I opened my Macbook Pro, and the messages came into my Mail.app inbox, they would disappear(read: delete) from my iPhone. Well, my HDD died last week, and now all of my messages stay on my phone as well as on my Mac, except they don't show up as unread on my Mac if they've been read by me on my iPhone. I want them to autodelete from my iPhone when theyre downloaded to my Mac.

May 14, 2009I've been having intermittent connection problems with Comcast since February. Comcast can't seem to diagnose or solve the problem. Each time they get my connection back up, it goes down again a few days or weeks later.
I switched to Mac last August, with little difficulty. Yesterday, after my connection went down *again*, a "Mac expert" at Comcast told me that this happens with him a lot too. He said that it may be something I just have to live with, implying that it was a problem with Mac users.
Well, I don't have to just live with it, and I've decided to cancel my Comcast subscription if their last fix (a new router/modem) doesn't hold up. But I'm curious, has anyone here ever heard of such a thing? The excuse doesn't make sense to me, since I didn't have connection problems for the first six months I had my Mac. But in February, Comcast switched me to new (better!) servers. I wonder if that's the issue.

Jun 12, 2009We have Comcast internet hooked up to a Linksys router. When only Windows machines are using the connection, everything works fine. When I use my Macbook Pro on the connection, it works for a while, then eventually the connection dies for everyone, and usually restarting the modem makes it work again. I am now trying to use the connection on Windows XP on my Macbook Pro using Boot Camp, and it seems to be working, so it seems like the modem doesn't like something about Mac OS X.

Dec 5, 2009I just moved to a new place and hooked up comcast internet. The place already had cable, we just hooked up the internet in addition. However, I can't get my macbook online!
2 hours on the phone, 2 different cable modems (one comcast and now a new linksys cm100) and a service call later and still nothing!
Here's the thing. It HAS to be my computer.
The service guy was able to connect to the internet both directly connected to the cable modem itself, and then again through (direct line, not wireless) through my time capsule as well, no problem!
I can't connect at all though! Before they came out or after. Nada, nothing.
I am on a C2D SR macbook running 10.6.2
I can get on the wireless at my parents house, (comcast) the next door neighbors, (comcast) my boyfriends, and directly connect to the internet here as well (I think, last week when I tried anyway)
What in the world could be wrong?
I can't connect wirelessly via my timecapsule through that connection either, but i don't care so much, as long as I can direct connect somehow.

Jan 28, 2010I have the full comcast cable package coming throught the HD Settop box at the moment.
My TV has recently died on me and is going to be repaired by Panasonic. I was thinking, in the meantime, is there a way to get my comcast signal onto my Mac so I dont have to buy another, temporary TV? Which sort of TV cards could accomodate this and am I going to run into any challenges?
Safari :: 5 Won't Login To Comcast
Mar 10, 2012After updating to safari 5 and several system updates (including 10.6.8) safari will not login to Comcast account, on my MacBook pro. The login just returns me to the login page with no message of a problem. Â
Firefox has no problem doing so and another (freshly made) user account on the same computer logs on fine. I've tried cleaning the cache, deleting the cookies, resetting safari settings to default, deleting the preferences, and deleting the user/library/safari folder. Also i did all these again and the deleted safari app and reinstalled it fresh. None of these have worked. The problem obviously lies in the user folder. Â
There was suggestion somewhere else about certificates. I deleted the ones that they suggested but that didn't help. I don't trust they were the right ones. If that might be the issue how do I identify which ones Comcast might be using.

Nov 22, 2009I work in a number of different houses all with different computer settings, so I bring my computer everywhere. It is an iMac. I'm having trouble connecting via ethernet into the cable modem at one place. I can connect my xbox directly if I manually enter the IP and DNS info. I know that the service is comcast and the modem is an Arris. It wont detect an IP automatically, I have tried to enter the info manually and it says ethernet is connected with the ip blah blah blah....but it wont connect to the internet or anything. Anyone have any ideas??

May 7, 2009I have an ibook G4 and an airport express and comcast internet. My ibook is currently wired to the comcast modem and i want to use the airport express to have wireless access to the internet and email.

I went to the airport utility and followed the instructions until I got to the step where it asked for the "account name, password and optional service name provided by the internet service provider." I did not know what those were, as comcast only gave me an account number, no name or password. I did a chat with comcast and after an hour of trying to explain to her on chat what the airport express was asking for, all she could tell me was that I should just leave those fields blank. So I continued with the wizard that way and it went all the way through the set up and sure enough, my wireless networks menu shows that I am connected to my new network. But even though the airport express is connected to the comcast modem, I cannot get internet or send or receive email through it. So the airport express is working with my computer - I do have a wireless network - but the airport express is not connecting to comcast - that is all I can figure.

Per their chat person, they do not have a way to transfer my mobile me emails to my new comcast account. ( If the mobile me account was not expiring, I could link the two. )Â
