View 3 Replies View RelatedSo I've owned Elgato's EyeTV Hybrid product for about 2 years (previously had the 250 model) and really enjoy recording sports games with it (plenty of Patriots, Celtics and Red Sox memories on my Mac now!).
But, all of a sudden, almost no channels are available. After a lengthy back and forth with Elgato's awful online email support, it turns out Comcast now requires a digital cable box for almost every basic cable channel except PBS and CSPAN. Who wants to record CSPAN? That essentially makes the EyeTV Hybrid a useless product for two reasons:1.) It forces you to get another digital cable box from Comcast for about $8/month2.) Prevents you from using the software or the EyeTV iPhone App to watch live TV, control recordings via guide, etc.
The only solution is to buy their new EyeTV HD product for $200 but you'll still need to pay Comcast for a dedicated box. I've asked Elgato's customer service repeatedly for a discount on the new product, since it's really my only option and because the product I purchased less than two years ago has been stripped to nothing. It's been 20 days and no response from them. I guess I'll just buy a Slingbox instead...recording ability or not.
I was thinking about picking up an EyeTV 250 (not plus) or EyeTV Hybrid on eBay. I wanted to use it not for TV on my computer, but to digitize VHS tapes. Would the EyeTV Hybrid be capable of this or would the EyeTV 250 be higher quality?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm looking to buy one of these, but I can't seem to figure out what the actual differences are?Is the 250+ basically just a 'Hybrid', but with more features?
And if so, what features?
Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_2_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/533.17.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.0.2 Mobile/8C148 Safari/6533.18.5) I have 2009 Unibody Mac book pro 15", 2.53 ghz, 4 GB Ram. I have a new EyeTV with my HD TV roof top antenna. When I watch on TV the football on Fox channel which is The video is chopping from time to time. Why is that? My Mac Book Pro is more than suffice as it require to meet with EYeTV.
View 6 Replies View RelatedDoes anyone know if the picture quality would be higher on the EyeTV Hybrid vs. the Hardware Encoding limitations of the EyeTV 250? Like... I have a really fast computer, can I encode at top notch quality on the Hybrid, that way I get the maximum picture clarity? Basically what I'm asking is is the computer encoding superior to the hardware encoding in some way?
View 24 Replies View RelatedI just bought an EyeTV 250 Plus, and I was wondering if there is any way I can capture HD 720p and HD 1080i video on my MacBook?
I ask because when you record a file and export it, it gives you the option to export the recording in HDV 720p or HDV 1080i .. doesn't this mean that you should be able to record in HD?
This unit doesn't come with Component outlets, it only lets you plug on the Red, White, and Yellow Composite cables and an S-Video cable, but you need either an HDMI port or an Component to capture 720p or 1080i, correct?
Am I missing something here or can you not record in HD? If not, then what's the point of those HD export settings?
So I bought the newest EyeTV Hybrid under the assumption it would (with little tweaking) operate in windows as well.
Which it doesn't.
The device is recogniezd as EyeTV Hybrid in windows, VID=0FD9 PID=0018.
I'm trying to install the Hauppauge software (4.6b) to use it.
So, I edited on of the .inf's so that my gf's comp now thinks the device is a HVR-980. And am installing as I write this. The hardware search/driver install bounced befor I edited the infs, but now says it got the 980 installed, requiring reboot... -> So, off to reboot.
I will report back to you.
So i've read a few threads on here mentioning the ZephIR and their website claims it can be controlled by EyeTV.
It looks great, but does anyone have any experience with it?
I'm definitely thinking of getting an EyeTV and an IR controller would be perfect!
I have had an EyeTV 250 for a few years now and have upgraded to digital TV for obvious purposes. I got a set top box because it was much cheaper than a new EyeTV. However, there is no option to make the set top box an option? Any type of plugin. I am using version 2 of Eyetv software. Do I have to update to version 3?

Soft start excellent - I can see video for few minutes (3,4-5) and than video stops - audio is going (but only for next 2-3 minutes). To see something I have to restart soft or unplug an plug stick to USB port (I do not use HUB, I only use extension of USB cable - MBA have not so much space to plug directly Pinacle Stick). I have to say that on old MBA everything works fine, same OSX version, same USB extension cable, etc.). I try to see if soft and stick works on another computer - I use MacBook Black version (last black configuration) and results: no problems. Video do not stops! I try to find solution on macs forums but I did not find anybody who have this problem.

Here are the problems being exhibited:1/ When EyeTV is running, it will sporadically, and unpredictably, crash without explanation.2/ Many times, the iMac will not even boot - it gets so far @ the grey screen, and then the "Please restart your computer" screen pops up:3/ Also, when using either VLC or EyeTV, sometimes there are patterns of green *horizontal* lines, spanning the area of the video playback window (NOT the entire iMac screen) - this happens a LOT.I have booted in safe mode, verified the volume in Disk Utility, repaired permissions, and it still exhibits these same issues. Also, EyeTV will freeze when displaying video, quite often.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm looking at buying a Mac Mini to replace my current Media Center, and will probably go for an EyeTV Diversity tuner - just wondering if I install Vista with Bootcamp will the tuner also work with Media Center?
It looks identical to Hauppauge's WinTV-NOVA-TD which works with Media Center and EyeTV, so I assume it probably does if you install the Hauppauge drivers -
I want to record something on 'Quest' tonight (Freeview channel 38) but, although it's there on my TV and Humax, it's not showing on EyeTV. I've tried both a full rescan and the exhaustive scan, but still nothing. It's plugged in via a y-connector from the main wall socket (the other side going to my Humax/TV) and signal quality is 100% with signal strength being 97.5%. why it's not showing up?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI asked a previous question (don't know whether you can see the last ticket as it is now closed) when my imac suddenly crashed and wouldn't boot. The problem seemed to be resolved by typing /sbin/fsck/ -fy after pressing Apple + S after powering up. All seemed to be working fine except EyeTV wouldn't load/
I assumed it was the usb stick that caused it as the light wouldn't even appear and have purchased a new version. Receiving it i still seem to be having the same problem. Most times it crashes with only the icon bouncing in the dock then disappearing. Although i did manage to load it once and get through the eyetv setup stages with a live picture in the background although it then crashed after i closed the setup window and now can't get anywhere again
The report window comes up and gives this information, don't know if it means anything to you:

Another point is that i can't seem to reset permissions in disk utility. It starts and comes up saying estimated time less than a minute but then freezes
Just wondered what i should do as it seems to be a fault with the imac now and i really haven't got a clue how to get it going (if it's even possible).
my family just switched from Verizon Fios to Comcast and we don't know how to set up our wireless routers. A long time ago we had DSL so the routers we have are Linksys wirless-G WRT54G both of these routers are already password protected. The bigger issue when is when I plug the ethernet cable from my modem to the router and click the router's name in Airport it says failed to open page any ideas
View 12 Replies View RelatedI've been having intermittent connection problems with Comcast since February. Comcast can't seem to diagnose or solve the problem. Each time they get my connection back up, it goes down again a few days or weeks later.
I switched to Mac last August, with little difficulty. Yesterday, after my connection went down *again*, a "Mac expert" at Comcast told me that this happens with him a lot too. He said that it may be something I just have to live with, implying that it was a problem with Mac users.
Well, I don't have to just live with it, and I've decided to cancel my Comcast subscription if their last fix (a new router/modem) doesn't hold up. But I'm curious, has anyone here ever heard of such a thing? The excuse doesn't make sense to me, since I didn't have connection problems for the first six months I had my Mac. But in February, Comcast switched me to new (better!) servers. I wonder if that's the issue.
We have Comcast internet hooked up to a Linksys router. When only Windows machines are using the connection, everything works fine. When I use my Macbook Pro on the connection, it works for a while, then eventually the connection dies for everyone, and usually restarting the modem makes it work again. I am now trying to use the connection on Windows XP on my Macbook Pro using Boot Camp, and it seems to be working, so it seems like the modem doesn't like something about Mac OS X.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI just moved to a new place and hooked up comcast internet. The place already had cable, we just hooked up the internet in addition. However, I can't get my macbook online!
2 hours on the phone, 2 different cable modems (one comcast and now a new linksys cm100) and a service call later and still nothing!
Here's the thing. It HAS to be my computer.
The service guy was able to connect to the internet both directly connected to the cable modem itself, and then again through (direct line, not wireless) through my time capsule as well, no problem!
I can't connect at all though! Before they came out or after. Nada, nothing.
I am on a C2D SR macbook running 10.6.2
I can get on the wireless at my parents house, (comcast) the next door neighbors, (comcast) my boyfriends, and directly connect to the internet here as well (I think, last week when I tried anyway)
What in the world could be wrong?
I can't connect wirelessly via my timecapsule through that connection either, but i don't care so much, as long as I can direct connect somehow.
I have the full comcast cable package coming throught the HD Settop box at the moment.
My TV has recently died on me and is going to be repaired by Panasonic. I was thinking, in the meantime, is there a way to get my comcast signal onto my Mac so I dont have to buy another, temporary TV? Which sort of TV cards could accomodate this and am I going to run into any challenges?
After updating to safari 5 and several system updates (including 10.6.8) safari will not login to Comcast account, on my MacBook pro. The login just returns me to the login page with no message of a problem.
Firefox has no problem doing so and another (freshly made) user account on the same computer logs on fine. I've tried cleaning the cache, deleting the cookies, resetting safari settings to default, deleting the preferences, and deleting the user/library/safari folder. Also i did all these again and the deleted safari app and reinstalled it fresh. None of these have worked. The problem obviously lies in the user folder.
There was suggestion somewhere else about certificates. I deleted the ones that they suggested but that didn't help. I don't trust they were the right ones. If that might be the issue how do I identify which ones Comcast might be using.
I need help in being able to have my EyeTV communicate with my ZephIR Infrared device so that the EyeTV can change channels and record TV shows by itself on my Cable Box. They're not communicating with each other at all.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI knows this sounds like an irrational connection, but after upgrading to Snow Leopard, eyeTV has a MUCH worse channel reception here. Nothing else in the setting changed and it's for many days now so that a temporary reception change because of weather etc. can't be the problem. It's that bad that most of the channels don't even get enough signal anymore to create a picture. (But, as described, it's not a total failout which would be much easier to hunt down, I guess.) I also tried the new eyeTV beta (and de- and reinstalled the program again), but nothing changed. It seems as if I am the only person in the whole wide world who experiences this DRAMATIC change in signal reception just because of Snow Leopard or is anybody else out there?

I'm having trouble connecting via ethernet into the cable modem at one place. I can connect my xbox directly if I manually enter the IP and DNS info. I know that the service is comcast and the modem is an Arris. It wont detect an IP automatically, I have tried to enter the info manually and it says ethernet is connected with the ip blah blah blah....but it wont connect to the internet or anything. Anyone have any ideas??
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have an ibook G4 and an airport express and comcast internet. My ibook is currently wired to the comcast modem and i want to use the airport express to have wireless access to the internet and email.
reset the modem pushing the little button.
I went to the airport utility and followed the instructions until I got to the step where it asked for the "account name, password and optional service name provided by the internet service provider." I did not know what those were, as comcast only gave me an account number, no name or password. I did a chat with comcast and after an hour of trying to explain to her on chat what the airport express was asking for, all she could tell me was that I should just leave those fields blank. So I continued with the wizard that way and it went all the way through the set up and sure enough, my wireless networks menu shows that I am connected to my new network. But even though the airport express is connected to the comcast modem, I cannot get internet or send or receive email through it. So the airport express is working with my computer - I do have a wireless network - but the airport express is not connecting to comcast - that is all I can figure.
Is anyone else having problems getting their comcast email in Apple's Mail.app? This same thing happened to me about a month ago and after about 5 days it just started working again.
What happens is that it acts like its connecting and then it gets stuck on "Preparing to Retrieve Messages" Fat chance, it doesn't do anything but eventually stop trying to "retreive messages.
I called comcast and apple last time this happened, they blamed it on each other. I can get my email fine in Entourage and via webmail. My other email accounts with .mac work fine as does my wife's comcast email. It's weird. Last time I even tried on other computers and a different user...all the same result.
I am letting my mobile me email account expire, as I have switched internet providers and have free email on comcast.
Per their chat person, they do not have a way to transfer my mobile me emails to my new comcast account. ( If the mobile me account was not expiring, I could link the two. )
So, what is the best way to still be able to access my old emails?
I thought of backing up my mobile me emails, but the apple back up will still be "going away" from what I understand. Or can I save that backup copy to my mac and still access it somehow?
Info:
iMac, Mac OS X (10.6.8)
I have Elgato EyeTV Digital TV Recorder Version 2.5.3 (3313) running under OSX version 10.4.11 and using a Miglia TVMini (TVM01) USB 2.0 DVB-T Digital Video Recorder device.
Recently, (after no software changes except maybe a osx/safari/itunes update, but I can't imagine why this would cause a problem), certain channels now display "No Signal", and when I check the preferences Signal info, these channels have a strength and quality of 0%. This seemed to happen all of a sudden, and I now cannot get the channels working again (despite trying a signal booster, re-scanning all channels) while other receivers (i.e. a TV) seem to work fine from the same input.
A full listing of the channel titles (and numbers) which are displayed as having 0% strength and quality are: Yesterday (12), 4music (18), Film4 (15), Viva (21), Ideal World (22), ITV4 (24), Dave ja vu (35), Big Deal (32), Virgin+1 (35), Create & Craft (36), Rocks & Co (40), Lottery Xtra (45) Russia Today (85), smileTV2 (94), Babestation (96), Babestation2 (99).
how to get these channels back working again?
The Mozilla product, SeaMonkey (which is a combined internet browser and email client kind of software, and is the next generation of the original Mozilla Suite, which in turn was THE Netscape software for many years) became problematic recently. This happened once before in the (4 years ago) distant past but at that time i was using dial-up to an aol ISP and changing to Comcast solved that issue for me. The mods on the Mozilla and Bugzilla forums suggest that it is mac firewall-related. i have to doubt this because the problem exists with firewall turned on or off. The older no longer supported Mozilla Suite email client can still connect and send email out using port 25 to connect to SMTP outgoing server. The Seamonkey still behaves correctly as a browzer but is unable to connect to the SMTP outgoing mail server (port 25) anymore using the exact same user account name and password as the Mozilla Suite does. Comcast tells me they have tested my connection and all is as it should be to receive and send. Their tech support has no help available for Mozilla or Netscape or anything else except Outlook Express, But a Comcast techie tried jumping me through their hurdles for "outlook express" and all the settings appeared to be correct. The SeaMonkey worked flawlessly until one day recently it didn't anymore. i recognize, Peter, that you have the firmly held opinion that all mac folk should use only Safari, but free is free. And Safari is not as handy-dandy as Mozilla for the kinds of things i like to use to connect to the .www. and down-load and to forward or send and receive email. SeaMonkey, since it uses port 110 pop3 for incoming mail also still works fine. So i CAN receive email at SeaMonkey read it and mouse-click on interesting links if any, but to send or forward email, i must log off and and then fire-up and use the old Mozilla Suite. My equipment: iMac SL OS X 10.3.9 with 768 Mb ram and 56 gig hard drive. i have read a bit at the Mozilla forums and see that there has been this connectivity problem on and off with both PC and Mac but always just a very few users leaving any posts about it. The SeaMonkey developers (all volunteer hobby-ist coders} have shown little interest , perhaps because it only affects the very few that it affects, but it also has been seen as a glitch or bug with their Thunderbird email client going back about 4 years. i have tried down-loading older versions of SeaMonkey and they now fail to connect too. The set-up wizard has one new account setting difference in the SeaMonkey that i can see, a new little window to enter in : "description" and at the first user account setting window in Mozilla Suite there used to be an advanced user button which is no longer there in SeaMonkey.
