I know we've all seen this title before, but I always find it interesting to see what Mac applications people love and couldn't live without. "error: couldn't repair the partition map because a new EFI system partition couldnt be created."
Then I hit verify disk and got the message
"Error: partition map check failed because no slices were found."

Is anyone else annoyed that the billing for iTunes 8.1 implies that before 8.1 you couldn't rip CD's at the 256kbps iTunes Plus AAC? Why did they say this? Is it just for those people who are clueless about this stuff, since if 8.1 is your first install the default will be 256kbps?I ripped my entire library at 256kbps AAC (cbr). I have an Apogee Duet and Grado SR225 headphones and I can only just barely tell the difference between Apple Lossless or linear, and 256 AAC. Same goes for my home stereo system with Energy Pro 22 speakers and NAD 2200 amp and 1240 preamp and Rotel CD player. I don't have the best equipment in the world, but it certainly is good enough for these listening tests.Now, 128kbps is another story. I can definitely hear a difference between that and 256 or ALAC or linear.

Has anyone managed to get the Thinkorswim's CNBC Live TV feature to work with Snow Leopard?
When I try to launch the stream (from the Gadgets menu), Quicktime v10.0 (90.3.1) launches, a reflector:nnnnn windows comes up, and then nothing. At one point it asked me to install an update (I think to VLC, but I cannot remember this minute).
Is it possible that when you delete emails from mac mail to have them automatically deleted from your windows live account server as well? If you understand what I mean?

I can sign in and then after 1 minute it signs itself out and says the connection has been lost.
I have tried re-installing it again and the same problem keeps happening

I have downloaded about 3 different instant messengers:
- Mercury Messenger
- aMSN
- Microsoft Messenger (newest version)
These all claim to have the ability of video chat and using the webcam, however, none so far have done so and every time I have tried it has failed or cancelled and can't connect.
I would like to know if I'm doing something wrong, I have gone through all the preferences and sorted everything that I think is right.

View 6 Replies View RelatedAirport is turned on my default and I think that is totally unsafe. I didn't use a strong password when I first got my Mac, and that part is my fault. But what is to keep someone from accessing my computer wirelessly through Airport when it was turned on and I had that weak password? And even if a person didn't want to access my computer, if their computer was infected with malware or whatever, what would keep an automated program from guessing the password and connecting to my computer or anyone else's?

I was updating software which was going to take a while so had my dinner whilst this was happening, came back and MacBook Pro had gone to sleep and would not wake up! When i closed lid the light then came on and it would not go off however as soon as I lifted lid ...nothing. So did (another) safe reboot and hence I'm writing to communities again (twice in one day).

I know this has been disccused ad nausium many places, but in reading 100s of posts Ive just confused myself and was hoping someone could help me make sense of all I've heard.I have a ibook g4 and use a WD 500gb external hard drive to keep all my music/pictures etc.Last night when I was moving files around (I dont think it was actually in the process of transferring files when this occurred, but there is a slight chance it was) I accidently hit enter instead of shift which told my computer to open all of the 1000+ folders that I had selected (DOH!) after working for an hour it seemed to be all frozen so with concern I turned the computer off and restarted.Suprise suprise, my external will no longer mount. - Disk Utility recognizes it but says there was an error on exit.Tim
View 4 Replies View RelatedI decided earlier this year that I was going to get a Macbook Pro to replace my ugly tablet and it's terrible, grainy screen. I knew there was a pending refresh and so I waited and waited and finally the refresh came. I quickly put a bunch of stuff on eBay so that I could order my new MBP and it arrived this morning.My first reaction was "Wow, that's a small box". I opened it and I quickly noticed how solid the computer was and the lack of tacky stickers all over it was refreshing. I turned it on, set it up and began to play. The first thing that I noticed was odd was that there was no true maximize button. I kept wanting Chrome to take up the whole screen, but I quickly realized that the window was the perfect size to fit the content, if it were larger I'd just have lots of blank white space on the right side. This way is clearly more useful.
View 24 Replies View RelatedI couldn't eject external disk, searching on internet followed a suggestion to delete com.apple...trash.plist in home folder library/preferences.still didn't work and I restart the computer and it worked. I can eject the external disk. I continued browsing the internet for several hours. And when I wanted to shutdown I clicked the apple menu choose shutdown nothing came up, no dialog box. I tried the control+alt+command+eject didn't work either.

I tried to connect to my router with via Ethernet, but it doesn't work either.Booted from OS X Tiger, it works perfect, otherwise I couldn't post this message.I reinstalled SL 10.6, but there's the same problem... it connects to the router, gets an address via DHCP, but that's all it does. When I try to load a webpage, it says "Connecting to Because of this I couldn't update 10.6 to a newer version. Software update tells me to check my connection.Any idea why the Internet is not working with 10.6? I tried to delete the airport pref from /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration, but it didn't work after that.

I was working on a project in xcode that an error poped saying it can't save the file, after that mac os just hanged, so I restarted it, but it couldn't get pass the apple logo, so I booted the recovery partition and tried the disk utility and it said there was a problem with the startup partition, so I tried the repair volume, but it didn't work, saying there was a write problem, so I tried to reformat it and then restore it to time machine backup, but it didn't work, so I removed the hard from my laptop and used a sata to usb enclosure and insert it to another mac and I formated the hard and reinstalled mac on it. when the hard is connected to usb I can boot from it and use it, but when I put it in the macbook it just can't boot from it. I figure there's a write problem with the serial-ATA.

There's an email whose attachments Outlook is unable to download from the server and the attachments in question are small text files. I went to mail.cisco.com and deleted the email there but the outlook still shows up that email in inbox and then get stuck in the "Downloading attachments" loop which I'd shown below. I tried to delete it on outlook but it still stays there. It is causing High CPU as well.

i have a late 2012 macbook pro 13.3" with latest OSX mavericks installed.I have this issue where when I insert this one blank CD RW into the superdrive, it makes a clicking sound for a while and then stops, and nothing happens(CD isn't recognised) ,CD can't be ejected either unless i restart my macbook .However when i try to insert another blank CD RW, it reads and burns just fine.
