MacBook Pro :: First MBP 13" 2.4GHz Couldn't Be Happier?

Apr 28, 2010

I decided earlier this year that I was going to get a Macbook Pro to replace my ugly tablet and it's terrible, grainy screen. I knew there was a pending refresh and so I waited and waited and finally the refresh came. I quickly put a bunch of stuff on eBay so that I could order my new MBP and it arrived this morning.My first reaction was "Wow, that's a small box". I opened it and I quickly noticed how solid the computer was and the lack of tacky stickers all over it was refreshing. I turned it on, set it up and began to play. The first thing that I noticed was odd was that there was no true maximize button. I kept wanting Chrome to take up the whole screen, but I quickly realized that the window was the perfect size to fit the content, if it were larger I'd just have lots of blank white space on the right side. This way is clearly more useful.

MacBook Pro :: 2.4ghz With 8gb Vs. 2.53 Or 2.66 I7 With 4gb

Apr 15, 2010

I'm looking to grab one of these new MBP's in the next few days, but as an admittedly,.I'll be mostly using my MBP for DJ and Logic work, as well as the occasional Illustrator or Photoshop project, along with some movie watching. No games or 3D stuff necessary..66 make a justifiable difference over the 2.4? I'm planning on getting 8gb with the 2.4, doing the 7200rpm upgrade and getting a HR screen on whichever one I choose, but just wanna make sure my going with a cheaper processor and more RAM isn't shooting myself in the foot down the road more than getting a slightly faster proc with less RAM.

MacBook Pro :: Went To Sleep And Couldn't Wake Up

Jun 18, 2012

I seem to be having a real run of bad luck at present! I was updating software which was going to take a while so had my dinner whilst this was happening, came back and MacBook Pro had gone to sleep and would not wake up! When i closed lid the light then came on and it would not go off however as soon as I lifted lid ...nothing. So did (another) safe reboot and hence I'm writing to communities again (twice in one day).

MacBook Pro :: 2008 MBP 2.4GHz With 10.6.2, Can I Get 8GB Ram

Nov 25, 2009

the 2.4Ghz Macbook Pro from October 2008, and I was planning on getting 8GB ram, I was wondering if it is possible for me to get 8GB or is 6GB the max for me. I'm running 10.6.2 if this makes a difference?Also if 8GB is not possible for me, and I'm gonna lose dual channel anyway, should I get one 4GB and have 5GB total, or is 2X2GB (retain dual channel) better than 5 (4GB + 1GB) or 6GB (4GB + 2GB) of Ram?

MacBook Pro :: Couldn't Get Pass The Apple Logo?

May 27, 2012

I was working on a project in xcode that an error poped saying it can't save the file, after that mac os just hanged, so I restarted it, but it couldn't get pass the apple logo, so I booted the recovery partition and tried the disk utility and it said there was a problem with the startup partition, so I tried the repair volume, but it didn't work, saying there was a write problem, so I tried to reformat it and then restore it to time machine backup, but it didn't work, so I removed the hard from my laptop and used a sata to usb enclosure and insert it to another mac and I formated the hard and reinstalled mac on it. when the hard is connected to usb I can boot from it and use it, but when I put it in the macbook it just can't boot from it. I figure there's a write problem with the serial-ATA.

MacBook Pro :: MBP Refurb 2.4ghz I5 Vs. 2.8ghz C2d?

Nov 23, 2010

Refurbished MacBook Pro 2.4GHz Intel Core i5
15.4-inch LED-backlit glossy widescreen display (1440 x 900 pixel)
4GB (2 x 2GB) of 1066MHz DDR3 SDRAM
320GB Serial ATA @ 5400 rpm
8x double-layer SuperDrive (DVD?R DL/DVD?RW/CD-RW)
NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M graphics processor with 256MB of GDDR3 memory
$1529

Refurbished MacBook Pro 2.8GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
17-inch high-resolution LED-backlit antiglare widescreen display
4GB memory
500GB hard drive
8x SuperDrive (DVD?R DL/DVD?RW/CD-RW)
ExpressCard/34 slot
Built-in 8-hour battery
NVIDIA GeForce 9400M + 9600M GT with 512MB
Illuminated keyboard
$1799

Which would be the better choice? Is the price difference justifiable?

I am a photographer so I do a lot of tethered shooting through capture one and a lot of photo editing in Photoshop. I have an eizo 24" external display I can hook up to but I feel the 17" with its high resolution and anti glare would be useful for location shoots so my question: Is the higher price and old technology worth it for the bigger antiglare screen and bigger harddrive for what I am using it for?

MacBook Pro :: Hard Drive Mounting Screws - Couldn't Take Out

Sep 8, 2010

Today I decided to change the HDD in my MBP. I read the manual prior to that so I was all set. It took me almost an hour to take the metal back off, it was a pain in the ass as I had one of those small japanese screwdrivers set with no proper grip. However when I disassembled everything, to my shocking discovery I came to those type of screes I rarely see. Those 4 screes on the side of the HDD (mounting screws). I could not take them out since I had no tool for that, Im not a native english speaker so I wanted to ask anyone how are those screws called and also the proper took size or name so I can buy it tomorrow.

MacBook Pro :: Battery Life On Refurbished 2.4GHz 15" MBP?

Nov 17, 2009

I recently ordered this refurbished MBP off of the Apple website:

15.4-inch LED-backlit glossy widescreen display
2GB memory
2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT graphics processor; and NVIDIA GeForce 9400M graphics processor with 256MB of DDR3 SDRAM shared with main memory
250GB hard drive
8x SuperDrive (DVDR DL/DVDRW/CD-RW)
Built-in iSight camera
Illuminated keyboard

I thought I got a good deal ($1299) but now that I think about it, I'm kind of upset that it does not have the built in battery. I wanted to ask about how many hours this MBP will last and if it was significantly less than the new MBPs with the built in battery. I don't use any graphic-intensive programs but I'd still like a long-lasting battery. I'm thinking about returning this one once I receive it and purchase the refurbished 2.53GHz Intel Core 2 Duo 13" with 4GB memory and the built in battery instead.

MacBook Air :: Is 1.4GHz Processor Enough To Use Enhanced Dictation Function?

Jun 19, 2014

Could keep going with classes and meetings, with enhanced dictation feature which is built-in the Maverick OS and a micrphone, so my mother could be able to see on the screen what other people are saying to her. I have read that these applications use a lot of resources, and for the case of the commercial application Dragon Dictation, they recomend a 2Ghz processor. Whether a Mac Book Air with 1.4GHz i5 processor and 4Gb RAM would perform well for this task?
