old mac g4 (digital audio) working well this morning, then power cut, now mac is off and cant get it going.
pressing power on the front of the tower, the light behind the power button comes on but no chime or boot up or fan sound ..
could have an internal fuse gone?
I'm thinking of creating a small, emergency boot drive on an sd card and would like your thoughts on what kind of software would be useful to put on it? So far the only things that come to mind are the Mac disc utility and carbon copy cloner.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI was doing software update today when all of a sudden my computer seemed to be overloading from the apps I was running prior...After 10 minutes of "Circle of Death" I performed a emergency shut down. (Probably not the best idea) Afterwards I restarted and was stuck on the main loading screen, (Apple with grey swirling circle) I left this for about 20 minutes came back to check on it and nothing had happened, several restarts with no new conclusion.I popped in the startup disk and ran a diagnostic on it with everything coming back fine...What the heck do I do now?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI recently installed Lion on my Core 2 Duo Macbook (late 2010 model). Everything seems to have gone smoothly. I also installed a Windows partition with Boot Camp. Windows 7 seems to be working okay, too.I had the impression that Lion installs an emergency backup partition on my hard drive. I had the impression I would see this partition if I started the machine with the option key down (along with the Boot Camp partition). Actually, I could swear I did see the Lion backup partition several times when I started the machine with the option key down. That was several days ago. Recently, when I start with the option key down, I don't see the Lion emergency backup partition. I just see my Macintosh Hard Disk and Windows.Was it my imagination, or has the Lion backup partition disappeared from the optionkey-down startup screen? If so, why? Has something gone wrong?

I want to create a minimal recovery boot disk for SL. I've followed how-to's on creating one for 10.4 and 10.5, but so far it I couldn't get it to work with 10.6. If you have successfully done this, or can point me to a pre-made image or how-to.
View 8 Replies View RelatedSo i put the OSX disk in (10.3) and when i make it boot from the disk the mac logo pops up then it shifts a quarter inch to the right and freezes. I then tried booting it normally and pressed the install button now it boots off the CD automatically with the same result and can't be turned off. Is there an emergency disk remove thing for a powerbook G4? And is there a way to reformat my computer without the disk?

Alright so I bought the Logitech V470 Bluetooth mouse for my MB. It's kind of small but I like it.
Anyways, I had the Logitech drivers and everything was going decent, but the mouse was still kind of laggy. Now after reading a thread on a Logitech mouse, everyone said Logitech's drivers were horrible. So I uninstalled everything that said Logitech Control Center. I didn't get everything though, because it still says Logitech Control Center connected whenever I connect my mouse. Is there anyway to get rid of it? I can't find anything about Logitech anywhere on my system.
Now to my second problem, the mouse pointer lags! I go and try to click the back button and it takes me a couple tries every now and then because it over shoots it and then lags back. It's really annoying.
Is there anything I can do about that?I might add that I'm using an external monitor.I'm thinking of just buying a new mouse, but that's another $50...
How do I go about arranging all folders by kind? Whenever I goto view options and select "use as defaults", it only applies to that folder...not to all folders!! I have Snow Leopard

View 1 Replies View RelatedI do not think my 10.5.7 updated correctly. I have a unibody. When I click on my battery icon it does not show the different profiles. I updated my brothers MBP (Santa Rosa) and he DOES have the profiles in the task bar. The main problem here is that his installed with no problems. MINE, on the other hand, was installing, it freaked out, and I had to force restart it. When it restarted, I had 10.5.7. Is there a way to kind of uninstall it and then reinstall it?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI imported a video in to iTunes, and it came in as a movie. It's an educational video, so I thought it would be nice to set its media type to iTunes U. I did that, then clicked iTunes U in my left hand pane, and the video did not appear. I created a smart playlist where media kind = iTunes U, and there it was. So I figured I'd change it to Podcast. I changed it, and it didn't show up under Podcasts, (but again does appear under smart playlist). So I figured I'd change the media kind back to Movie, but now that media kind is no longer available from the dropdown list! My only choices are Music, Podcast, iTunes U, Audiobook, Voice Memo.How can I change the media kind to movie so it appears in my movies?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI am having a problem with keeping all of my folders arranged by Kind. I have gone into the tasks toolbar in finder. From there I go to Show View Options, then I click choose Arrange by Kind, and then click use as defaults. This does not work, because when I go into a different folder or if I create a folder inside a different folder (that I made), the folder is not arranged by Kind. I have also tried using alt and going to the task toolbar to Keep Arranged By. However both options are only arranging the folder that I am in. I want every folder to be arranged this way.

If I sort by kind, the files are grouped according to kind, but the names are mixed up. If I sort by name, all file types and folders are sorted according to name. I like the column view because directory structure can be seen easily.

I have never used iCloud, and would like to know: what kind of documents can be stored on iCloud? I use apps such as Painter X3, and would like to store those projects. Is it possible? Also, how do I know what I have stored, can I eliminate it from iCloud when I choose, is it available for download. I really don't understand the whole concept. When attempting to sign in and use iCloud, I was given only a couple Apple apps to use for document upload. They were apps such as Pages, Preview, etc..
Is this not an external storage and backup resource?

On an external firewire 800 hard disk, I have a lot of photos, both in RAW (.nef) format and in "developed" JPG format.I would like to import my photos in iPhoto '08, but just the JPG and not the RAW.Unfortunately, if I select the directory where the photos are, iPhoto import both the JPG and the RAW There is a way to "filter" the import and to select just one kind of images (e.g. only .jpg) ?
View 4 Replies View Relatedi just bought a clamshell ibook on ebay for $90, quite a bargain i think. its 366mhz, 320mb ram, only problem is the 10gb hard drive. i know its upgradable. the 9.5mm UltraATA-66 hard drive which is what i read it has,dont really go over 10gb, or at least i cant find any that do. the ones i find are very expensive. i see some clamshells on ebay upgraded to 20 or 30gb, what kind of hard drives do those people use? i know it takes a lot of disassembly to do it too, if someone could point me to a guide to doing that it would be most good.

I have a LOT of rules in Mail. For example, one of my clients has about 10 different project managers and I filter messages from each PM into a separate folder. Occasionally I need to make changes to these rules but they only display in the order in which I created them, which is a PITA. Is there any way of changing the list order, e.g. by name etc.?

All the screens I have seen have at least a stripe of bleeding on top and some screens have more bleeding on the bottom in addition to that!I just opened my machine today with week5 production and it has a very thin (thinner than others) stripe of bleeding on top and kind of two blobs on the bottom corners.As for the lines (for the curious ones) they are there but this is the best screen I have ever seen since it is way harder to notice them compared to the rest. It is a model 9C90.
Would I return it you might ask, well, I am kind of sick of waiting more for a MBA since this is my second machine since the release of revB so I am kind of 50-50 now on keeping it.BTW, I bought this from Amazon so I was wondering if any of your returned a MBA due to the lines/bleeding issue and got a full refund from them.
For those of you who know Windows, you can view your folders/files in a list but still re-arrange by type/kind (i.e. I will get the folders first, then the different kinds of files).
